Grab your whip and fedora, Chris Pratt could be adding yet another hit franchise to his resume! Deadline reports that Disney is in the early stages of rebooting the Indiana Jones franchise and have their eyes set on Chris Pratt to take over the role of the swashbuckling archaeologist made famous by Harrison Ford. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as Disney was passed the rights to the “Jones” films when the company bought Lucasfilm back in 2012 and the final distribution rights from Paramount in 2013 and while they’ve been focusing their efforts on new Star Wars films there was no question that Disney would be looking to eventually bring back Indiana Jones to help make that $4 billion deal worthwhile. Something else that shouldn’t be much of a surprise is them wanting to use Chris Pratt as the lead considering he’s a proven money-maker for Disney thanks to the success of last summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Not to mention he already has a pre-existing comedy fanbase from Parks and Rec, starred in the acclaimed Lego Movie and is set to star in this summer’s Jurassic World. Of course, the hard part might be finding a spot in his schedule to don a fedora as he is set to shoot a Magnificent Seven remake with Denzel Washington plus Guardians of the Galaxy and The Lego Movie sequels. The biggest question though might be do we really want to replace Harrison Ford with Chris Pratt, 007 style? Or is Disney going to try a Crystal Skull passing of the torch move again? If they decide on the latter, let’s just make sure they don’t try to make Pratt a grown up version of Shia LaBeouf’s “Mutt”. On the other hand, “Indiana Jones” isn’t exactly a franchise that ignores the canon of the last film, much like many, but not all, Bond films, and we’d have to imagine there’d be a few Indy fans that’d be upset at the studio ignoring 30 plus years of story, though casting Pratt as that hero doesn’t mean those stories have to be erased, but rather, the new stories just need to depict different points in history. The way we see it – both ways have potential, but if we can have our cake and eat it too – we’d prefer to see Pratt and Ford share screen time together than have to just accept Chris as Indy, though we’re pretty sure we’d get used to it. But at the end of the day, this is, as Deadline put, only a rumor for now, so let’s not get too carried away. But if this does end up panning out and Chris Pratt takes over the Indiana Jones franchise, how would you like it to happen? Should it be a remake, reboot or passing of the torch type sequel? Head down to the comments or tweet us @ClevverMovies and tells us what you think and then click here to what 7 things we’d like to see happen in Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World. Until next time, I’m Erin Robinson and thanks for watching ClevverMovies!
