Enhanced Spherical Clipmaps (Mars, Perlin noise, Atmospheric scattering)
This is a preview of my master's thesis work. I do enhance normal geometry clipmaps to spheres based on octahedral subdivision. This allows simple tiling and avoids lots of trigonometry as compared to similar techniques. Here Mars is rendered at a maximal resolution of 0.6 km per vertex. The data is based on the MOLA Digital Elevation Map (DEM) which has been gathered by the Mars Global Surveyor mission. Visit mola.gsfc.nasa.gov for more information about that mission. Additionally I show a second planet generated with a 3D Perlin algorithm. Further focus is on atmospheric scattering, which adds to the scene's realism.

El terreno se ha generado proceduralmente mediante ruido de Perlin, y los railes siguen la trayectoria de una curva B-Spline de Catmull-Rom. Perdón por el bajo framerate, mi capturador de escritorio no ha permitido una captura fluida. Normalmente la ejecución sobrepasa los 50 FPS sin problemas en un ordenador portátil de gama media-alta.
