The team toured up and beyond the ski area boundary into the Blackcomb Backcountry, namely East Col and the Spearhead Glacier. The group found variable but well developed surface hoar on all aspects with signs of wind loading on south aspects. An observation pit at 2180 m yielded no results this day utilizing an extended column test. Snow depth ranged from 90 to 260 cm. Good skiing on sheltered northerly aspects was found today at higher (2000+) elevations. Crevasses remain open and/or weakly bridged, extreme caution is advised while traveling on glaciers at the current time. As the next dis-organized front makes it way into the region today and throughout the weekend, hazard levels may increase. See you in a few days for episode 2.

The CMBR team was out in the backcountry Dec 13 and 14. This episode focuses on the Spearhead area but the group observed similar conditions in the Mt. Currie zone. A widespread avalanche cycle up to size 2.5 was visible from the last storm with fracture lines up to a meter deep, crust/facet layers suspected. 40 to 100cm of storm snow lies on top of the Nov 28 crust/facet interface. Nov 9 crust/facet layer down 130 to 190 cm.
Two recorded pits from the last two days (Mt. Currie zone):
2280m, NE, HS 320cm
CTM 15 (SP) down 35 on DFs sz 1
DTTH 23 (SC) down 90cm on Nov 28 CR/FC sz 2
1835m, NW, HS 210cm
DTTH 27 (SC) down 160cm 0n Nov 9 CR/FC sz 2
This is an exceptionally late start to the season and early season conditions persist. Open creeks and barely covered terrain features are the norm at lower elevations. Crevasses are open on all glaciers. Debris from last avalanche cycle as re-frozen and presents a hazard while skiing.

The CMBR team was up in the Cayoosh Range yesterday on the Peak and N Glacier of Cayoosh Mtn proper. The last pulse of storm snow has opened up the valleys a little bit more and traveling at lower elevations is becoming plausible although early season care is still needed.
The supportive crust from the Jan 5 rain event (5cm) is starting to break down at certain elevations and travel is become easier. Ski crampons have been carried as a rule but on this day not used. A well developed surface hoar was noted at all elevations and aspects.
A weak storm front is moving into the area Thursday with snowfall predicted through the evening, losing strength through the early morning on Friday. Another small system trails it into the weekend. Most of the precipitation is tracking south of the Duffey Zone, higher accumulation is possible in Garibaldi Park and into the W US. Snowfall amounts Th-Sun could be up to 15cm in the Duffey Environs and possibly more in Whistler, Garibaldi Park and the Coquihalla.
We will be paying close attention to how the surface hoar reacts to the new snow.

The CMBR team was out in the Joffre lakes area on Jan 22, skiing on and around Mt. Tszill.
The team observed variable surface conditions ranging from wind scour, hard slab and softened powder. The best skiing was found on S aspects this day while N facing terrain was crusted and with little ski penetration.
Cornices are large and fragile. The high freezing levels and rain above 2200m will add to this hazard as they become saturated
The mature storm snow appears to be bonding quite well with the rain crust from the second week of Jan.
For the outlook, a 'pineapple express' system is tracking through our zone with accompanying high freezing levels and precip, likely falling as rain on all but the highest peaks in our zone. A natural avalanche cycle is likely during the storm.
If you have anything to offer to Ullr, this would be an appropriate time to do so.

The CMBR team was up in the Decker area in the Spearheads on the 15th of January:
Friday's rain episode created a widespread wet snow avalanche cycle to size 2.0 at elevations up to 2400m on all aspects. There is considerable frozen avalanche debris on steeper slopes in avalanche terrain throughout the Spearhead range to that elevation.
The new snow that resulted from dropping FL's in the early hours of Saturday has been melted by sun on southern aspects to 2200m. On northern aspects it has been transported by moderate to strong winds at ridgetop. Temperature inversions over the 150213 crust have caused widespread faceting over the crust where snow has been redeposited. This has resulted in a weak layer for any subsequent storms.
With rising FL's forecast, southern slopes may be working back towards isothermal at elevations above 2200m. Below 2100m on Sunday, the crust was only pencil density and subject to solar heating and breakdown.
Low angle terrain at higher elevations, above 2200m provides the best skiing surfaces, with serious percolation channels found below 1900m in the backcountry. Steeper southern aspects are corning up in the afternoon's currently, with some good turns to be had before the crust breaks down.
For the future: depending upon weather and FL's, facetted layers may persist at higher northern aspects and provide a poor bonding surface for future snow. On southern slopes, be concerned about rising FL's and solar heating causing the upper snowpack to go isothermal and wet loose avalanches that result. Be concerned for the avalanche and rollerball debris that is found beneath any steep slopes on all aspects up to 2400m.
Finally, evidence is that many people are getting close to cornices and travelling over the pull-away cracks. These may exist some distance (10 or more metres) back from actual cornice lips. At least two occasions of people stepping into the snow-covered cracks and plunging to chest depth were noted. Be advised that these cracks will only deepen as warmer temperatures and higher FL's occur.
As always, be sure to check the local bulletins before planning your outings:

Episode 3 of the Escape Route and DPS Coast Mountains Backcountry Report.
The CMBR team was up on the Duffey Lake Road, namely the Steep Creek environs on Saturday with Jonas Hoke, one of the avalanche forecasters for the Ministry of Transportation. The main theme here is that early season conditions persist at lower (sub 1800m) elevations. Be cautious of barely covered terrain features and open creeks. Above 1800m it is a different story with a snowpack that can support skiing quite well. Accessing the higher elevations is the challenge right now. Great skiing was found on all aspects above 1800 m. Barely covered avalanche debris from the last cycle was observed.
The team found a surface hoar layer at the 10-15cm level that if loaded with more snow and wind, could present a problem in the coming days.
As always, please check the local bulletins before planning your outings:

The CMBR team was in the Spearhead Mountains on Thursday, with the increasing temperatures now and into the weekend, we are on the verge of a major change in hazard levels.
Wednesday presented no problems with temperature at elevations above 2000m on any aspect as afternoon cloud kept solar heating in check; however, by 1100hrs yesterday, temps reached 3C at 2350m and snow surfaces started pin-wheeling with wheels to 70cm across. Even snow on true north shaded aspects began to moisten on top.
We got SP results at 2330m N. asp down 30-32 at CTE(4) on SH (6mm), a layer buried 150411. No sign of the 150411cr at this elevation and asp. (1200hrs)
We got SP results at 2330m N. asp down 74cm on a density change with facets (1mm) at the same elevation. The block slid off on a 35 degree slope under its own weight. This is the same layer that resulted in the Sz2 remote triggered slab on 150414 on the upper Spearhead Glacier.
We bailed on the Spearhead and headed back onto southern aspects. Snow isothermal on steeper south facing slopes over 150411cr at 1220 from 15-30cm deep. No loose wet until 1400hrs on these asp. 7C at 1900m at that 1400hrs.
In the afternoon, we traversed the Chuting Gallery at 1950m and found isothermal to 150411cr with that crust beginning to break down. At 1500hrs we started to see Sz1.0 loose wet avalanches on northern asp in the Corral at 1900m running long.
We counted approximately 75 tourers in the Northern Spearhead around noon yesterday. In my opinion, a SPAW for this region is justified.
This will be the last CMBR of the season, thanks for watching and have a great summer. See you when the snow is flying again in Nov.

Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, off North Africa. Each of these volcanic islands are blessed with spectacular beaches, otherworldly beauty, and perfect weather.
Tenerife receives around 5 million visitors each year, many of whom head to the island’s seaside resorts to enjoy the year-round sunshine and spectacular beaches.
Enjoy golden sands and almost any watersport you can imagine at Las Americas Beach, one of the island’s most popular beaches. Or, take a dip in the crystal waters at Del Duque Beach - just 10 minutes’ drive to the north.
Los Cristianos, once a sleepy fishing village is now a beachside town where you can step straight off the boardwalk onto the soft sand.
For a seaside experience with a difference, head to the north or west to discover sultry black sand beaches. Visit Jardìn Beach…… or drive to Los Gigantes, which nestles against the bottom of magnificent cliffs.
For those who can tear themselves away from the island’s glorious beaches, Tenerife offers generous rewards. Some of the island’s most picturesque villages are only minutes away from the large resorts.
Ever since the golden age of discovery, explorers and thinkers have been drawn to Tenerife’s beautiful shores. In olden times, the trip was a perilous adventure but today, Tenerife is an easy plane ride away.
So, whether you are seeking ancient mysteries sunset over chair or escaping the modern stresses of daily life, come and discover all that Tenerife has to offer.

Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia. Sydney's urban area is in a coastal basin, which is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Blue Mountains to the west, the Hawkesbury River to the north and the Royal National Park to the south.
The most important places to visit in Sydney are: Sydney Opera House (among the world's most recognized landmarks. Set on the Sydney harbor, it is an unforgettable sight), Sydney Harbor Bridge (simply called "the bridge" by locals, courageous ones can even climb up the bridge), Bronte Beach (lesser known than Bondi, it is a beautiful beach, popular amongst families), Blue Mountains (an unspoiled mountain range filled with Eucalyptus trees. It is located 30 miles from Sydney, and there are plenty of hiking trails), Bondi Beach (Sydney's most famous beach, its lively promenade is as exciting as the beach) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Sydney travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

After checking out some of the great beaches we made our way through the Sunshine Coasts Hinterland to enjoy some breath-taking views. The scene-stealing Glasshouse Mountains are the headline act, and are ably supported by lush rainforests, mist-shrouded waterfalls, and spectacular flora and fauna.
Australia Zoo is in the foothills of the Hinterland is the home of the famous Steve Irwin also known as the Crocodile Hunter. this place will definitely provide you with some up close and personal wildlife experiences.

Madeira - a part of Portugal - is an island near the coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. The island has a mild climate and its main assets are its legendary flowers and natural beauties. Madeira’s name is strongly connected with the wine and a handcraft of the same name. In the center of the Wine Company we can taste and buy this fantastic drink as well as take a look at its history. In the mountain village of Monte lies the last Habsburg royalty, and this is the place where the famous toboggan sleds can be seen. Camacha is famous of its basket makers while Moniz of its cave spa. In Santana the tourists can see many thatched houses so characteristic of the island. The 1800 meters high mountains and the lush flora offer recreation for the hikers, mountaineers, parachutists and bikers. Beside the levadas - watering canals – we can walk through Madeira among the banana plantations, vineyards, sugar cane fields, eucalyptus and laurel forests. The landscape is full of volcanic stones, basalt rocks, deep gorges, black-sanded beaches and mountaintops hardly visible in the mist. The capital, Funchal, which is famous of its busy cultural life, we can take a look at the copy of the ship of Columbus

Travel video about destination Argentina.
Argentina is the second largest country in South America and a captivating land of tango, adventure and breathtaking nature.Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina and the most European city in South America with buildings that are reminiscent of bygone times. The mighty Plaza De Mayo is the historic heart of the city, along with the presidential palace, the Casa Rosada and the Catedral Metropolitana. Today the tango is performed in each corner of the city and in the nineteenth century poor immigrants from Italy and Spain settled in Buenos Aires. This explains the fiery temperament and deep melancholy that is expressed by the dances and is evident with each flick of the leg. In what was once the red light district with its whore houses of colourful corrugated iron taken from numerous ship wrecks, the tango was born. We visit an estanzia, a feudal residence of the beef barons who once settled on the endless plains of the pampas and who built their farmhouses according to the rustic designs of the nobility. From Salta Station we begin a fascinating train journey on the Tren A Las Nubes, the “train into the clouds",.which will climb to more than three thousand metres above sea level along one of the highest railroads in the world. The Los Glaciares National Park is a mixture of lakes, glaciers, mountains and untouched wilderness yet despite the harsh climate the local vegetation captivates due to its diversity. Our journey comes to an end. From north to south, through cities and pampas to glaciers and mountains, Argentina is a dream destination come true!

The Atacama Desert ( Desierto de Atacama) is a plateau in South America, covering a 1,000-kilometre (600 mi) strip of land on the Pacific coast, west of the Andes mountains. It is the driest non-polar desert in the world. According to estimates the Atacama Desert proper occupies 105,000 square kilometres (41,000 sq mi), but its size rises to 128,000 square kilometres (49,000 sq mi) when the barren lower slopes of the Andes are included. Most of the desert is composed of stony terrain, salt lakes (salares), sand, and felsic lava that flows towards the Andes.

Travel video about destination New England.
The city of Plymouth is the beginning of a journey through the north eastern region of America, New England, which is where the first European settlers landed in the 17th century after stepping off the Mayflower. The ‘Plimouth Plantation’ is a reconstruction of the Pilgrim Fathers’ original settlement, with ‘settlers’ in original costume going about their daily routine. In the centre of Boston, Copley Square features the Trinity Church which contrasts with the modern Hancock Tower that dominates the skyline and Park Street Church was where, in 1829, William Garrison gave his first anti-slavery speech. In the adjacent Granary Burial Ground some of America’s most famous sons are buried, such as John Hancock, Samuel Adams and Paul Revere. Portsmouth is a quaint little harbour town at the mouth of the Piscataqua River in which the fishing harbour still plays an important role and pretty brick houses are gems of colonial architecture that remain untainted by tourism. Brunswick is a deceptively small town situated at the mouth of the Kennebec River. The main attraction of this 270 year old town is Bowdoin College in which theologian Calvin Stowe taught, husband of Harriet Beecher Stowe who wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin. The fishing town of Rockland is one of the largest exporters of lobster in the USA. There’s nowhere better to enjoy fresher, tastier and more varied seafood than on this part of the coast. Indeed, three quarters of American lobsters and other fish are prepared here. Established in 1919, Acadia National Park extends across most of Mount Desert Island and it was private individuals, particularly the billionaire John Rockefeller, who gifted this land to the State. It is now a collection of conservation areas that assures the preservation of this unique East Coast combination of lakes and mountains. New England is the traditional face of the United States…and the heart of America’s past.

Travel video about destination Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is a fascinating country in Central America bordered by Nicaragua and Panama, a natural paradise between the Caribbean and the Pacific.Located at more than a thousand metres above sea level, San José, Costa Rica’s capital city, not only boasts an idyllic location in the heart of Central America’s coffee country, but also an enviable climate. The extent to which Costa Rica joins with European tradition can be seen in the Teatro Nacional. The coffee barons, to whom the glorious development of San José is owed, created taxes for the export of coffee beans and thus funded the construction of the magnificent building. In a fertile mountain valley at the foot of a volcano, is Turrialba, a town that radiates a serene calm but once was an important station on the route of the Jungle Train from San José to the Atlantic coast. The crater of the Poas Volcano is surrounded by the dense green of a rainforest and overlooks the north western Meseta Central. Although it is one of the country’s most active volcanoes, it is the most visited, as visitors can go by car almost to the edge of the crater. The Rain Forest Aerial Tram is Costa Rica’s most popular tourist attraction, a ride on an open gondola through the jungle. A journey of discovery amid a canopy of trees, hovering at treetop level through the solitude of nature. Fascinating nature, joie de vivre and colonial history are omnipresent on this land bridge between North and South America, Costa Rica is surely one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Travel video about destination California in the USA.
For some, San Diego - a coastal city with a wonderful climate - is California’s southernmost city, for others it is the northernmost city in Mexico. This is where we begin our tour of California, the most populated state in the USA, the Promised Land! The red tram, known as the San Diego Trolley, leaves Amtrak Station and travels south to Seaport Village on the Mexican border while north of San Diego is Joshua Tree Park, a huge nature reserve that is located between the Mojave and Colorado Deserts. The Mormons who came to this region during their search for the ‘Promised Land’ gave the Joshua Tree its name as it reminded them of the holy prophet of the same name. Las Vegas appears like a mirage in the desert, awake night and day, THE entertainment capital of the world! Guarded by a sphinx that stretches its paws out toward the Strip, a pyramid looms above the desert paradise, the Luxor Hotel, one of many theme hotels in this incredible city. The MGM lion guards one of the largest hotels in the world with over five thousand rooms, whereas the Bellagio is a return to the exclusive nature of the casino hotels of the past: here, luxury is at its zenith - an investment of 1,8 billion dollars speaks for itself! Only two and a half hours by car to the west of Las Vegas is the USA’s most recent national park that extends to the opposite side of California’s border, Death Valley! It was through here that thousands of pioneers took a short cut while journeying west, many of them perishing in the attempt. The Yosemite National Park is a near-impenetrable landscape full of huge granite mountains over the steep slopes of which torrents of roaring water plunge a thousand metres into the valleys of the last Ice Age. Los Angeles is synonymous with Hollywood, and Beverly Hills, a perfect product of the American Dream, is its famous suburb with neat parks and blossoming flower beds. There’s also the Sidewalk Of Fame, Mann’s Chinese Theatre and Rodeo Drive, the most exclusive shopping mile in the world. And of course there’s San Francisco, a city that’s under constant threat of destruction by earthquake. Perhaps that’s why ‘Frisco exudes a strong sense of well-being that has become known as ‘That California Feelin.!’

Travel video about destination Cote D'Azur.
Our romantic journey begins in the city of Cannes in the south of France, along the ‘Blue Coast’, the Côte D`Azur. For most of the time, this impressive section of the Mediterranean coast enjoys a mild climate and is synonymous with a luxurious lifestyle beneath the southern sun. Le Suquet, the old town that is located above the old port has, in spite of tourism, managed to retain its air of calm sophistication. The markets in the old town offer an abundance of eye-catching vegetables, fruit and fresh fish. Narrow and picturesque alleys lead up to the tiny mountain of Mont Chevalier on which the historical area of the city is situated. Close by is the Cap D`Antibes with its mighty castle that from 1386 was owned by the Grimaldis and in the 16th century became a French possession. A huge defensive wall built by the Sun King‘s master fortress builder surrounds the old town and protects its seaward side. Nice is the ‘dream coast’s’ fascinating and colourful city located on the curve of Angel Bay, a metropolis that has lost little of its turn of the century charm. The magnificent Promenade Des Anglais, named after the resort’s former large contingent of English visitors, was built during the19th century. The historical centre of the city, Vielle Ville, has become the home of Arabian immigrants, thus couscous features prominently on the menu. The old fish market is the most beautiful on the entire Côte D`Azur and its traditional displays of seafood are a feast to the eye. In the centre of the Côte D`Azur’s enchanting landscape is the picturesque medieval village of Eze. Most of the village that can be seen today had its origins in the 10th century and its fine old buildings, charming back streets and archways are real architectural gems. Only a little further along the coast is the Principality of Monaco which, after the Vatican, is the smallest yet most unique sovereign state in the world. Luxury yachts anchor in the harbour throughout the year and travel from all over the globe to visit this much sought after tax haven and exclusive casino paradise. Romance, history, luxury, glamour, prosperity and sunshine: the Côte D`Azur!

Travel video about destination Slovenia.
Half of Slovenia's colorful area is covered by forests, but the country also has another part, a tiny, but very nice coastal area on the Adriatic Sea, with such venetian style cities as Izola, Piran and Portoroz, as well as 2,800 meters high mountains and ski resorts.
The picturesque lakes Bled and Bohinj both lie in a wonderful landscape. The gem of the karstic area is the Postojna cave.
The tiny country has plenty of wild rivers suitable for rafting and healing waters. Golf, mountineering, diving, mountain biking and rock climbing are also warmly welcomed in Slovenia.
The Lippizan is well known all around the globe. All of this is completed by such medieval towns as Maribor, Skofja Loka and Ljubljana, and such romantic castles as the Predjama.
