SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation (in Russian): "In the beginning of 2000s UN experts were predicting further demographic decline to Russia. According to UN forecasts Russian population by the end of 2013 was supposed to have shrunk to 136 million people. As of January 1 2014 Russia's population was almost 144 million people, that is eight million ahead of the UN forecast. I'd like to add that for two consequent years - 2013 and 2014 - Russia has been witnessing a natural increase of its population. And we expect by the end of 2014, with Crimea and Sevastopol taking into account, Russian population will exceed 146 million. Our demography promotion programs have proved their efficiency and we'll continue implementing them. We'll extend them on the population of Crimea and Sevastopol. Crimean families who delivered their second or more children after 2007 will receive maternity benefits in full extent."

The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin emphasised that population of the country had risen despite UN forecast during his annual address to the Federal Assembly in Moscow, Thursday. He further announced that the successful policies will be put into practice in Crimea.
There are over 1,100 attendees in the Kremlin's St George Hall, including members of the Federation Council, State Duma deputies, members of the Government, the heads of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, the regional governors, heads of regional legislative assemblies, heads of Russia's traditional religious faiths and public figures.
This year Vladimir Putin is addressing the Federal Assembly as Russia's President for the 11th time, but unlike previous addresses it includes the budget address.
