What Do Commercial Construction and Basketball Have in Common? Learn more at www.DJConstruction.com. At first glance, commercial construction and basketball have very little, if anything, in common. But if you check into the story of how basketball was invented, and then you check out one particular construction company in Northern Indiana, you might be surprised how similar these two entities are. It was December, 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts when a young YMCA Phys. Ed. instructor was given the task of finding a different way to keep his track athletes in shape until the snow melted. So he nailed two peach buckets 10 feet off the ground and posted his 13 rules on the wall. His name? Dr. James Naismith. His game? Basketball. Naismith invented a different way of doing things; likewise, DJ Construction “invents” a different way of offering construction services. Our clients tell us we’re different in three primary areas: our people, our principles, and our partnerships. • Our People – We place honesty, integrity, and care for doing things right, above all else. • Our Principles – We will not compromise our values to win a bid, complete a task, or settle a difficult situation. • Our Partnerships – We prioritize relationships, not just projects. Those three “p’s,” our people, principles, and partnerships, are built from our culture and extended to our clients; they are the ones who tell us we’re “different,” and their satisfaction continues to inform how a commercial construction company should do business. DJ Construction is a family-owned commercial contractor in Goshen, Indiana, with a second office in Warsaw. We have been in business since 1954 when brothers Don & Joe Schrock founded the company. DJ is committed to helping its clients solve facility challenges from master planning and assessment to management and construction. The company provides a customer-driven approach to the building delivery process for all sizes of projects, including renovations and repairs. Our client list ranges in scope and size from windows and door replacements to fully integrated services in multi-million dollar projects. We would love for you to have the opportunity to experience what makes DJ Construction “Decidedly Different.” Visit us at: www.DJConstruction.com, or call us: 574-533-1645 (Goshen) or 574-269-1645 (Warsaw).

Fox News 2015-03-20James Naismith (November 6, 1861 – November 28, 1939) was a Canadian sports coach and innovator. He invented the sport of basketball in 1891 and is often credited with introducing the first football helmet. He wrote the original basketball rulebook, founded the University of Kansas basketball program, and lived to see basketball adopted as an Olympic demonstration sport in 1904 and as an official event at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, as well as the birth of both the National Invitation Tournament (1938) and the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship (1939).
Born in Canada, Naismith studied physical education in Montreal before moving to the United States, where he developed basketball in late 1891 while teaching at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. Naismith also studied medicine in Denver, taking his MD in 1898 before moving to the University of Kansas. After a decade (1898–1907) serving there as a faculty member and part-time basketball coach during the sport's fledgling years, he became the Kansas Jayhawks' athletic director. He became a U.S. citizen in 1925.
