Art is a term that describes a diverse range of human activities and the products of those activities, but is most often understood to refer to painting, film, photography, sculpture, and other visual media. Music, theatre, dance, literature, and interactive media are included in a broader definition of art or the arts. Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences, but in modern usage the fine arts are distinguished from acquired skills in general.
Many definitions of art have been proposed by philosophers and others who have characterized art in terms of mimesis, expression, communication of emotion, or other values. During the Romantic period, art came to be seen as "a special faculty of the human mind to be classified with religion and science".
The nature of art, and related concepts such as creativity and interpretation, are explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics.
The Encyclopædia Britannica Online defines art as "the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others". By this definition of the word, artistic works have existed for almost as long as humankind: from early pre-historic art to contemporary art; however, some theories restrict the concept to modern Western societies. The first and broadest sense of art is the one that has remained closest to the older Latin meaning, which roughly translates to "skill" or "craft." A few examples where this meaning proves very broad include artifact, artificial, artifice, medical arts, and military arts. However, there are many other colloquial uses of the word, all with some relation to its etymology.

Shiv Kumar 'Batalvi' (Punjabi: ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ) (1936–1973) was a noted Punjabi language poet, who was most known for his romantic poetry, noted for its heightened passion, pathos, separation and lover's agony
He became the youngest recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1967, given by Sahitya Akademi (India's National Academy of Letters), for his epic verse play based on the ancient legend of Puran Bhagat, Loona (1965), now considered a masterpiece in modern Punjabi literature, and which also created a new genre, of modern Punjabi kissa. Today, his poetry stands in equal footing, amongst that by stalwarts of modern Punjabi poetry, like Mohan Singh and Amrita Pritam, all of whom are popular on both sides of India-Pakistan border.
Shiv Kumar was born in a Saraswat Brahmin family on 23 July 1936 (though a few documents related to him state October 7th, 1937 as his DOB), in village Bara Pind Lohtian, Shakargarh Tehsil, Sialkot District (now in Punjab province, Pakistan), to Pandit Krishan Gopal, village tehsildar in the revenue department, and Shanti Devi, a housewife.

Narender Sharma is an Indian artist, born in Lahore, Pakistan. His family settled in Delhi in the aftermath of the partition, in 1947. An immersion in music and Punjabi culture began from an early age. His love for music was sparked and nurtured by his mother, Late Suraksha Rani. While Narender went on to became a university academic in the years to come, somewhere in the course of his journeys, he returned to music and began his learning under different Ustads. A love for ghazals and sufi music for Narender was an outgrowth of listening to the most outstanding artists in the field---Mehdi Hasan, Begum Akhtar, Iqbal Bano and the famous Quawwals “Sabri Brothers”. At this moment in the 1990s, Narender began to avidly read Ghalib and other sufi poets like Bulleshah and Waris Shah; out of these readings and meditations came a series of compositions to celebrate and re-interpret these poems and couplets. Narender’s musical productions are also a testimony to a genuinely “saanijhi wiraasat”---a term which offers no easy English translation, but conveys an idea that the interplay of mazhab, culture and language, interwoven through lived experience creates a richer level of legacy and inheritance, which cannot be vitiated by the simple Hindu/Muslim binary categorization.
These studio recordings are now being made widely available to music lovers the world over.

The finale had top four singers competing for the top spot. Two from India and two from Pakistan. They already were competing with each other since past two weeks and hence they had already gathered points. With Diljaan leading and Mulazim was at the last spot. The first step of the finale was to find the finalists from India and Pakistan .The top scorer from each country was selected in the first two rounds. In the first round all the four singers performed and were judged. In the next round two singers from Pakistan performed and judges gave them marks. Nabeel was declared the first finalist from Pakistan. Next round was the competition between Yashraj and Diljaan where they sang one song each at the end of the round the marks were declared and Diljaan was the finalist from India.
Two captians celebrated their finalist by performing their popular songs.
Before the final competition all the eliminated participants also performed with dancers. They also come gave dedication to both the countries.
The finale begun where the finalists had to go to three rounds to judge their versatility first performance singing a semi classical number then a western number and then a song which would make the audience dance. Both the finalists performed nicely.
Before the result Ms. Runallaila performed the medley of her song. She dedicated the songs to all the three countries.
Finally the result was announced, .Mr................ was declared the winner of the show. The trophy of the winner was handed over by Mr. Boney Kapoor...

World Crossing Cultures is a newly created project where we are going on a world trip to unite all cultures and religions through the power of Creativity and Love.
Music, Dance, Teather, Paint, Photo and Video or any way of art and creativity is our tool to make this amazing soup of World culture.
So the first trip of this beautiful project is to cross the cultures between the Northern Lights of Europe and the Roots of Africa.
The plan is to go by car from Aland Islands and down to Benin in Africa and make a documentery of the whole trip.
We begin our journey in the beginning of November and gives it 1 month to arrive in Benin. So there is a lot of time on the way to jam and play with all the cultures and people we will be crossing. ;) :D
Until we are leaving for Africa we will activly start crossing cultures with jam sessions, workshops, exhibitions and conserts here on Aland Islands.

Thampi Antony stepped into the film industry through the film Arabia in which his brother Babu Antony appears in the lead role. Since then, he appeared in a number of films both English and Malayalam. He bagged the Best Actor Award at the Honolulu International Film Festival in 2005 for his wonderful performance as Dr. Acharya in 'Beyond the Soul' , the English film directed by Rajeev Anchal. In 2010, he also appeared in the Hollywood movie Cash. Professionally he is an architect and is currently settled in San Francisco in US for the past couple of decades. Professor Conway presented her book "Cross-cultural Dialogue on the Virtues: The Contribution of Fethullah Gulen" on February 4 at 12 PM at the Rumi Forum offices.
The book explores the development of the influential worldwide Hizmet movement inspired by the Turkish scholar Fethullah Gülen, known for his moderate Islamic emphasis on peaceful relations among diverse people. It provides a detailed study of Gülen’s account of the virtues and argues that they provide the key to understanding this thinker and the movement he inspired, from its initial establishment of hospitality houses through the growth of worldwide schools, hospitals, media outlets, charitable associations and dialogue centers.
The book analyzes the distinctive virtues that shaped the Hizmet movement’s ethos as well as continue to sustain its expansive energy, from the core virtues of tolerance, hospitality, compassion and charity to a host of related virtues, including wisdom, humility, mildness, patience, mercy, integrity and hope. It also examines the Islamic and Sufi roots of Gülen’s understanding of the virtues as well as presents a comparative study of Gülen’s account of the virtues in dialogue with prominent thinkers of the Western philosophical tradition and the religious traditions of Christianity, Judaism and Buddhism.
