Gilgit (Urdu, Shina: گلگت) is the capital city of Gilgit–Baltistan, Pakistan. Gilgit City forms a tehsil of Gilgit, within Gilgit District. Its ancient name was Sargin, later to be known as Gilit, and it is still called Gilit or Sargin-Gilit by local people. In the Burushaski language, it is named Geelt and in Wakhi and Khowar it is called Gilt. Ghallata is considered its name in ancient Sanskrit literature. Gilgit City is one of the two major hubs in Gilgit Baltistan for mountaineering expeditions to the Karakoram and other the peaks in the Himalayas, the other hub being Skardu.[citation needed]
Gilgit was an important city on the Silk Road, along which Buddhism was spread from South Asia to the rest of Asia.[citation needed]
The Dards and Chinas appear in many of the old Pauranic lists of peoples who lived in the region, with the former also mentioned in Ptolemy's accounts of the region. Two famous travellers, Faxian and Xuanzang, traversed Gilgit according to their accounts.[citation needed]

Maulana Tariq Jameel (Urdu: مولانا طارق جمیل) (born 1953) is an Islamic scholar from Pakistan. His native town is Tulambah near Mian Channu. His father was an agriculturist who belonged to the Muslim Rajputs community.[citation needed]
Tariq Jameel was born and raised in Mian Channu. In his childhood he lived a relatively modest life but religion was not a major part of his life and his family in particular. It wasn't until he pursued his M.B.B.S. in Lahore that his focus shifted towards Islam. After completing his Higher Secondary School education (a.k.a. F.Sc in some regions of Pakistan) in pre-medical (equivalent to A 'levels') from Government College, Lahore, he took admission in King Edward Medical College in Lahore. He intended to do his M.B.B.S., but he soon switched to Islamic education. He then went on to receive Islamic education from Jamia Arabia, Raiwind (near Lahore), Pakistan where he studied Quran, Hadith, Sharia, Tasawwuf, logic and Fiqh.[citation needed]
His proclivity towards Islam grew during hostel life in Lahore and can mainly be attributed to the group members of Tablighi Jamaat who he became friends with during his college life.[citation needed]

Sharif said that the project costing Rs1,400 billion will add 4,500 megawatt of electricity to the national grid. He said that besides this, work will also be started on Bunji and Dasu Dams

While successive Pakistani government have always kept up the sham of championing "self determination" for the people of Gilgit, it has continuously suppressed their rights denying them basic, constitutional and human rights. It has become increasingly clear that the promises made by politicians here are as elusive as ever. Pakistani security apparatus has been fostering sectarianism in order to retain its stranglehold on Gilgit. The region has also become a theatre of training camps for terror groups funded by Pakistan's main spy agency, the ISI.

Gilgit Pakistan
Gilgit (Urdu, Shina: گلگت) is the capital of Gilgit-Baltistan within the namesake district of Pakistan. The city of Gilgit constitutes a tehsil within Gilgit District. The city's ancient name was Sargin, later to be known as Gilit, and it is still referred to as Gilit or Sargin-Gilit by local people. In the Burushaski language, it is named Geelt and in Wakhi and Khowar it is called Gilt. Ghallata is considered its name in ancient Sanskrit literature. Gilgit was an important city on the Silk Road, along which Buddhism was spread from South Asia to the rest of Asia. It is considered as a Buddhism corridor from which many Chinese monks came to Kashmir to learn and preach Buddhism.- published: 23 Jan 2015

PM NAWAZ SHARIF SPEECH AT GILGIT 14 APRIL 2015 Nawaz sharif Address to gilgilt Baltistan New Projects 14 4 2015 Nawaz Sharif announces mega development projects for Gilgit-Baltistan 14 April 2015 Nawaz expresses resolve to develop Gilgit-Baltistan GILGIT, Pakistan: In order to bring prosperity in the lives of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, mega development projects including Diamer Basha dam will be launched in the area. The announced was made by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while addressing a public gathering in Gilgit on Tuesday. The prime minister said that the Diamer Basha dam will be country’s biggest project which will change the destiny of Gilgit Baltistan. Sharif said that the project costing Rs1,400 billion will add 4,500 megawatt of electricity to the national grid. He said that besides this, work will also be started on Bunji and Dasu Dams- published: 14 Apr 2015

People of Gilgit Baltistan Struggling for their Rights
Gilgit Baltistan, May 05, 2015: The call of the people of Gilgit Baltistan has been going unheard for decades now. The continued denial of political rights by Pakistan in the region is fuelling dissatisfaction by the day. The people of Gilgit Baltistan have realized that Islamabad is taking them for a ride for years. From basic amenities to the citizenship rights, everything has been taken back by the puppet regime from the locals of the region. Even the rich natural resources are being plundered by Pakistan, without paying any royalty to the locals. Gilgit Baltistan was a part of the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan, which has illegally occupied it for over six decades, has been ruling it through proxies. While successive Pakistani government have always kept up the sham of championing "self determination" for the people of Gilgit, it has continuously suppressed their rights denying them basic, constitutional and human rights. It has become increasingly clear that the promises made by politicians here are as elusive as ever. Pakistani security apparatus has been fostering sectarianism in order to retain its stranglehold on Gilgit. The region has also become a theatre of training camps for terror groups funded by Pakistan's main spy agency, the ISI.- published: 05 May 2015
