Honour or honor (see spelling differences; from the Latin word honos, honoris) is an abstract concept entailing a perceived quality of worthiness and respectability that affects both the social standing and the self-evaluation of an individual or corporate body such as a family, school, regiment or nation. Accordingly, individuals (or corporate bodies) are assigned worth and stature based on the harmony of their actions with a specific code of honour, and the moral code of the society at large.
Honour is adherence to what is right. To some people it is also standing by or for someone.[citation needed]
Honour can be viewed in the light of Psychological nativism as being as real to the human condition as love, and likewise deriving from the formative personal bonds that establish one's personal dignity and character. From the point of moral relativism, honour is perceived as arising from universal concerns for material circumstance and status, rather than fundamental differences in principle between those who hold different honour codes.
Patrick George "Paddy" Considine (born 5 September 1973) is an English actor, filmmaker, screenwriter, musician and frequent collaborator with Shane Meadows. Best known to audiences for his portrayals of dark, troubled, morally or mentally ambiguous characters. He has starred in films such as In America, Dead Man's Shoes, The Cry of the Owl, Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee and Hot Fuzz, as well as in television films such as The Red Riding Trilogy, The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher, and PU-239.
Considine came to prominence in the early-2000s with a string of strong performances in independent films that prompted the Observer to describe him as "The best-kept secret in British movies". In addition to leading and supporting roles in Hollywood films, Considine has frequently acted in independent British films and television shows. Aside from acting, he directed and wrote Tyrannosaur, a film based on his directorial debut, the short film Dog Altogether both of which feature actors Peter Mullan, Olivia Colman and Paul Popplewell. He was both actor and writer on several music videos, namely the Arctic Monkeys promotional video for "Leave Before the Lights Come On".
Denagamage Praboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene (Sinhala:දෙනගමගේ ප්රබොත් මහේල ද සිල්වා ජයවර්ධන; born 27 May 1977), known as Mahela Jayawardene, is the captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team. He is a specialist batsman.
Jayawardene made his Test debut in 1997 and his One Day International (ODI) debut the following season. In 2006 he made the highest ever score by a Sri Lankan in Test cricket, scoring 374 in the second Test of Sri Lanka's home series against South Africa. He has a Test average of over 50 and an ODI average in the 30s. He is the first and only player in the history of Sri Lankan cricket to score over 10,000 Test runs. Despite his relatively low ODI average, Jayawardene is considered to be one of the best batsmen produced by Sri Lanka and is generally held in high regard as a legend of the modern game along with team-mate Kumar Sangakkara. He is one of only three Sri Lankans—the others being Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara—to have scored more than 10,000 runs in ODIs.
Ryan Joseph Giggs OBE (born Ryan Joseph Wilson on 29 November 1973) is a Welsh footballer who plays for Manchester United. Giggs made his first appearance for the club during the 1990–91 season and has been a regular player since the 1991–92 season. He established himself as a left winger during the 1990s, and continuing in this position well into the 2000s, though he has been increasingly used in a deeper playmaking role in his latter years. Giggs is known for his tireless running, ball possession and ability to create goalscoring opportunities for those around him.
Giggs is the most decorated player in English football history. He also holds the club record for competitive appearances. During his time at United, he has won 12 Premier League winner's medals, four FA Cup winner's medals, three League Cup winner's medals and two Champions League winner's medals. He has two runner-up medals from the Champions League, three FA Cup finals and two League Cup finals, as well as being part of the team five times when it finished second in the Premier League. In recent years, Giggs has captained the team on numerous occasions, particularly in the 2007–08 season when regular captain Gary Neville was ruled out with various injuries.
Pluto Shervington, also known as Pluto (born Leighton Shervington, 13 August 1950,Kingston, Jamaica), is a reggae musician, singer, engineer and producer.
Shervington began his career in the early 1970s as a member of the showband Tomorrow's Children. Inspired by the success of Ernie Smith's "Duppy or a Gunman" and Tinga Stewart's "Play de Music", both delivered in heavy patois, he recorded "Ram Goat Liver" in a similar style. The follow-up, single "Dat" - about a Rastafarian with a secret liking for pork, contrary to his faith - achieved considerable chart success internationally in 1976, reaching the number 6 in the UK Singles Chart.Trojan Records capitalized on this success by reissuing his first single, which peaked just outside the top 40 in the UK.
Shervington moved to Miami, Florida in the early 1980s, and continued recording, enjoying another big hit in 1982 with "Your Honour", which reached the UK top 20. This song dealt with a prisoner's courtroom pleas of innocence, in the face of insurmountable evidence to the contrary. The song's somewhat racy nature, and comical styling is in the best traditions of calypso, and many elements of reggae. Shervington often performs live in Miami, and periodically returns to his homeland for performances. As of 2007[update] he plays solo at Bahama Breeze in Kendall, Florida; and every other Sunday at Black Point Marina in Cutler Bay with a five piece band. Pluto appeared at the St. Kitts Music Festival on Friday 22 June 2007, sharing the bill with Steel Pulse and Sean Paul, amongst others.
Ground assault begins
By order open fire
Vanguard - respect is borne
Proud to hold first battle front none superior
... None superior
Axis ever turning (advance as one)
War’s attrition has begun
Intense the battle harvest
Through the crimson mud
Now thoughts turn and decline
Unswerving loyalty advance is one
Advance is one
Weary from the start - at dawn's early light
Silently torn away - unto the end of life
As night has fallen
Far distant horizons afire
Beyond pursuit of victory
In belligerence and pride
A war to end wars
With loyalty above all - except honour
Passive fields. January two thousand and twelve
A nation that stands alone
Cold voices, faces pale
Gathered unto their judgement day
Such pride remains unbroken
Such words remain unspoken
Just mothers to stand in vain and cry
Tears and medals in the rain
Shall I recall when justice did prevail?
No reason to be found why reason did fail
The all clear resounding
The way was clear to rebuild this land
Shall I call on you to guide me well
To see our hopes and dreams fulfilled?
On this day of our ascension
Stand your ground, this is what we are fighting for
For our spirit and laws and ways
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war
For heaven or hell we shall not wait
Shall I think of honour as lies
Or lament its aged and slow demise?
Shall I stand as a total stranger
On this day in this stone chamber?
The all clear resounding
The way was clear to rebuild this land
Shall I call on you to guide me well
To see our hopes and dreams fulfilled
On this day of our ascension
On this day we praise the fallen
Stand your ground, this is what we are fighting for
For our spirit and laws and ways
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war
For heaven or hell we shall not wait
Shall I think of honour as lies
Or lament its aged and slow demise?
Shall I stand as a total stranger
On this day in this stone chamber?
Stand your ground, this is what we are fighting for.
For our spirit and laws and ways.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.
For heaven or hell we shall not wait.
Shall I think of honour as lies
Or lament its aged and slow demise?
Shall I stand as a total stranger
On this day in this stone chamber?
Stand your ground, this is what we are fighting for
For our spirit and laws and ways
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war
For heaven or hell we shall not wait
Shall I think of honour as lies
Or lament its aged and slow demise?
Shall I stand as a total stranger
Don’t tell me you know exactly how I feel
You choose your views like you’ve known me for years
Now, everyone can whisper in your ear and say you’re wrong
So what can they do now, their singing along
Everyone can listen to your song on the radio
So why are these people afraid
So why are these people afraid
You don’t know me so don’t judge know that I feel
You don’t know what I’ve been through, and all my fears
Now, everyone can whisper in your ear and say you’re wrong
But what can they do now, their singing along
Everyone can listen to your song on the radio
So why are these people afraid
(Don’t try, don’t try, afraid)
They come forth to beat you, yet they live in the shade
(Don’t try, don’t try)
Don’t be fooled by what’s around
Listen to me without a frown, cause you know it’s hard to say
They listen. Listen. They listen. They listen to me, listen to me.
Now why are these people afraid
Now why are these people afraid
Don’t believe everything you may hear
You don’t understand all my feelings and all my fears
(Don’t try, don’t try, don’t try)
I don’t need you
(Don’t try)
We don’t need you
Gaze into the fire - Gaze into the flame
And from that it'll rise - Simple yet so effective
A choice to be made - To be the sheep or the shepherd
To be the hammer or the nail - To fail or prevail
In hearts drained of honour
These chants shall resonate plenty
In hearts vile and hollow
These chants will sneak in gently
In hearts drained of honour
These chants will leave them empty
In hearts dead and shallow
These chants shall rise eternally
In the ashes of a fire neglected - A seed a spectre unexpected
A fire that never rests - Unconquered sun reawake
Sound thy trumpets tune thy drums - And sharpen thy daggers
Let them know we're coming - Carrying the winds that shatter
"Be your friend's true friend to him and his friends
Beware of befriending and enemy's friend"
"Be your friend's true friend, return gift for gift
Repay laughter with laughter again
But betrayal with treachery"
