Mesopotamia. Land of two rivers, the Euphrates and the Tigris. Descendants of the ancient cultures are Siriacs, Arameic-speaking Christians. Nowadays the Syriacs inhabit the "Upper Mesopotamia," which includes Northern Iraq, Turkey, and Syria -- as well as Lebanon and Iran. At the end of the First World War, after the downfall of the Ottoman empire, their life experienced major change. The newly defined borders divided their population into different states. Everywhere they represent a national and religious minority. Over the past 100 years they have been persecuted and their rights violated. Therefore, great numbers of them continue to emigrate to Europe and North America. Syriacs speak Aramaic, the language spoken by Jesus himself. Since they lived in the East, outside the borders of the Roman Empire, they were called the Eastern Christians.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aramean_people http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aramean_Genocide The Arameans, or Aramaeans, (Aramaic: ܐܪ̈ܡܝܐ, ארמיא ; ʼaramáyé) were a Northwest Semitic semi-nomadic and pastoralist people who originated in what is now modern Syria (Biblical Aram) during the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age. Large groups migrated to Mesopotamia where they intermingled with the native Akkadian (Assyrian and Babylonian) population. A large proportion of Syriac Christians in modern Syria still espouse an Aramean identity to this day, though few now speak the Western Aramaic language. The Arameans never had a unified nation; they were divided into small independent kingdoms across parts of the Near East, particularly in what is now modern Syria. After the Bronze Age collapse, their political influence was confined to a number of Syro-Hittite states, which were entirely absorbed into the Neo-Assyrian Empire by the 8th century BC. By contrast, the Aramaic language came to be the lingua franca of the entire Fertile Crescent, by Late Antiquity developing into the literary languages such as Syriac and Mandaic. Scholars have used the term "Aramaization" for the process by which the Akkadian/Assyro-Babylonian peoples became Aramaic-speaking during the later Iron Age. Assyrian genocide From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Aramean Genocide) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aramean_Genocide The Assyrian Genocide (also known as Sayfo or Seyfo, Syriac: ܩܛܠܐ ܕܥܡܐ ܣܘܪܝܝܐ or ܣܝܦܐ) refers to the mass slaughter of the Assyrian population of the Ottoman Empire during the 1890s and the First World War, in conjunction with the Armenian genocide and Greek genocide. The Assyrian civilian population of upper Mesopotamia (the Tur Abdin region, the Hakkâri, Van, and Siirt provinces of present-day southeastern Turkey, and the Urmia region of northwestern Iran) was forcibly relocated and massacred by the Muslim Ottoman (Turkish) army, together with other armed and allied Muslim peoples, including Kurds, Chechens and Circassians, between 1914 and 1920, with further attacks on unarmed fleeing civilians conducted by local Arab militias. Estimates on the overall death toll have varied. Providing detailed statistics of the various estimates of the Churches' population after the genocide, David Gaunt accepts the figure of 275,000 deaths as reported at the Treaty of Lausanne and ventures that the death toll would be around 300,000 because of uncounted Assyrian-inhabited areas, leading to the elimination of half of the Assyrian nation. The Assyrian genocide took place in the same context as the Armenian and Pontic Greek genocides. In these events, close to three million Christians of Syriac, Armenian or Greek Orthodox denomination were murdered by the Young Turks regime. Since the "Assyrian genocide" took place within the context of the much more widespread Armenian genocide, scholarship treating it as a separate event is scarce, with the exceptions of the works of David Gaunt and Hannibal Travis. In 2007, the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) reached a consensus that "the Ottoman campaign against Christian minorities of the Empire between 1914 and 1923 constituted a genocide against Armenians, Assyrians, and Pontian and Anatolian Greeks. The IAGS referred to the work of Gaunt and Travis in passing this resolution. Gregory Stanton, the President of the IAGS in 2007--2008 and the founder of Genocide Watch, endorsed the "repudiation by the world's leading genocide scholars of the Turkish government's ninety-year denial of the Ottoman Empire's genocides against its Christian populations, including Assyrians, Greeks, and Armenians. for more *** http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aramean_Genocide Massacres of Diyarbakır (1895) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Massacres of Diyarbakir (1895)) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacres_of_Diyarbakir_(1895)

SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE DOCUMENTARY FILMS HD UPDATES: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user= The Magi, also referred to as the (Three) Wise Men or (Three) Kings were, in the Gospel of Matthew and Christian tradition, a group of distinguished foreigners who visited Jesus after his birth, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. They are regular figures in traditional accounts of the nativity celebrations of Christmas and are an important part of Christian tradition. According to Matthew, the only one of the four Canonical gospels to mention the Magi, they came "from the east" to worship the "king of the Jews". Although the account does not mention the number of people "they" or "the Magi" refers to, the three gifts has led to the widespread assumption that there were three men. In Eastern Christianity, especially the Syriac churches, the Magi often number twelve. Their identification as kings in later Christian writings is probably linked to Psalms 72:11, "May all kings fall down before him". Thomas Gate TV Iraq’s Christian community is hardly a western innovation or a colonial relic. It dates from the 1st Century, when two of Jesus’ disciples – St. Thomas and St. Thaddeus (also known as St. Jude) – preached the Gospel. There has been a Christian presence in Iraq ever since. And now, as ISIS sweeps through Iraq, an estimated 150,000 have had to flee Mosul and their ancient Christian heartland, some for the second time in a decade. “The wave of persecution that has been directed at Iraq’s Christians after 2003 has never received much attention by either President Bush or President Obama’s administrations, but it has been a grave human-rights problem. The campaign against Christians has encompassed 70 deliberate church bombings and assaults, as well as assassinations, an epidemic of kidnappings, and other attacks against clergy and laity alike. In recent years, particularly since 2004, a million of Iraq’s Christians have been driven out of the country by such atrocities. This can be rightly called targeted religious cleansing, and it is a crime against humanity.” Christians in the Middle East know very well about the ferocious system of Islam enforced by ISIS terrorists. When the group attacked Raqqa, Syria earlier this year, they gave the Christians three options: “Convert. Submit to Islam. Or face the sword.” In order to save lives, Raqqa’s Christian elders chose to submit to ISIS’s 7th Century version of Muslim Sharia law and became dhimmis, a subservient, second-class minority under Islamic rule. To make matters worse, rather than offer assistance to their Christian neighbors, many Sunni Muslims in the area have simply turned a blind eye or even joined the invaders. Directed By: John-Roger, Dss & Jsu Garcia, Dss Aramaic (Classical Syriac: ܐܪܡܝܐ Aramaya) is a family of languages or dialects, belonging to the Semitic family. More specifically, it is a part of the Northwest Semitic subfamily, which also includes Canaanite languages such as Hebrew and Phoenician. The Aramaic script was widely adopted for other languages and is ancestral to both the Arabic and modern Hebrew alphabets. During its over 3,000 years of written history,[2] Aramaic has served variously as a language of administration of empires and as a language of divine worship. It was the lingua franca of the Neo-Assyrian Empire, Neo-Babylonian Empire and Achaemenid Empire, the day-to-day language of Yehud Medinata and of Judaea (539 BC – 70 AD), the language that Jesus probably used the most,[3][4][5] the language of large sections of the biblical books of Daniel and Ezra, and is the main language of the Talmud and Syriac Christianity, in particular the Assyrian Church of the East, the Chaldean Catholic Church, the Ancient Church of the East, the Saint Thomas Christian Churches in India, the Syriac Orthodox Church and the Maronite Church.[6] However, Jewish Aramaic was different from the other forms both in lettering and grammar. Parts of the Dead Sea Scrolls are in Jewish Aramaic showing the Jewish lettering, related to the Hebrew script. Aramaic was also the original language of the Bahrani people of Eastern Arabia.[7] Aramaic's long history and diverse and widespread use has led to the development of many divergent varieties, which are sometimes considered dialects, though they are distinct enough that they are sometimes considered languages. Therefore, there is not one singular, static Aramaic language; each time and place rather has had its own variation. Aramaic is retained as a liturgical language by certain Eastern Christian churches, in the form of Syriac, the Aramaic variety by which Eastern Christianity was diffused, whether or not those communities once spoke it or another form of Aramaic as their vernacular, but have since shifted to another language as their primary community language. Modern Aramaic is spoken today as a first language by many scattered, predominantly small, and largely isolated communities of differing Christian, Jewish, and Mandean ethnic groups of West Asia[8]—most numerously by the Assyrians in the form of Assyrian Neo-Aramaic and Chaldean Neo-Aramaic—that have all retained use of the once dominant lingua franca despite subsequent language shifts experienced throughout the Middle East. The Aramaic languages are now considered endangered.[9]
The programme realized by Elisabetta Valgiusti highlights the extreme danger for Syrian Christianity in the midst of the conflict in act and the fears for its further effects. It records the conditions of the Syrian Christian refugees currently displaced in the neighbouring countries, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and presents current images of destroyed churches and other sites in Syria. The Syrian refugees describe terror and dangers that obliged them to flee and report killings and persecution committed purposely against unarmed Christians. The deep worries for the present and the future of Syria's Christianity is furthermore based on the interviews to Catholic Oriental Patriarchs and Bishops among those more involved in the crisis. They represent the sufferings of their communities and churches in Syria : Greek Melkite Catholic Patriarch Gregorios III Laham, Armenian Catholic Patriarch Nerses Bedros XIX, Syriac Catholic Patriarch Ignace Joseph III Younan , Armenian Catholic Archbishop of Aleppo Boutros Marayati, Greek Melkite Catholic Archbishop of Aleppo Clemens Jeanbart, Syriac Catholic Archbishop of Aleppo Denys Antoine Chahda. They give witness of the violence of different jidahist and radical Islamic armed groups that keep destroying Syrian villages and towns . Most of the members of these groups are not Syrians . In Iraq , Syriac Catholic Archbishop of Mosul, Yohanna Petros Mouche, and Naisan Karoomi, the Mayor of Al-Hamdania District that includes Karakosh , the most popolous Iraqi Christian town , underline the difficult situation in the towns of the Nineveh Plain . Other important Middle East Catholic leaders partecipate to the program: Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal, Maronite Archbishop of Beirut Paul Youssef Matar , Greek Melkite Catholic Archbishop of Amman Yaser Al-Ayyash. While the President of Caritas Lebanon, Father Paul Karam , reports Caritas aid to the refugees and the effects of this emergency in Lebanon. Cardinal Peter Turkson , President of the Pontifical Council Justice and Peace , gives his contribute to the programme focused on the committment of the Catholic Church for peace and the efforts of Pope Francis to promote it . The programme Syria's Christian Exodus gives evidence of the extreme hard time that all Middle East and all its components are going through. Video extract from 1 hour programme.
