"A group of seven Iranian men and women who created and starred in their own version of a video for Pharrell Williams’ song ‘Happy’ have each been given suspended sentences of prison time and 91 lashes. The fun-loving friends were arrested in May after posting their homemade music video ‘Happy in Tehran’ to YouTube. They were forced to publicly confess and apologise on national television before being released on bail, with police chief Hossein Sajedinia warning others that the video was “a vulgar clip” which “hurt public chastity”. Their lawyer Farshid Rofugaran told English-language Iranian news outlet IranWire that six of the group were yesterday given six months in prison and 91 lashes, while a seventh – the Director of the video – was also given 91 lashes but one year in jail. Iranian cuisine is often referred to as "Persian." This is because, until 1934, Iran was known as Persia. The Persians are an ancient culture believed to have originated in central Asia as far back as 2000 B.C. At one time, Persian territory stretched as far east as India. Curry (a spice) was adapted from the people of India and incorporated into the Persian (now Iranian) cuisine. Modern spicy curry stews demonstrate India's influence. The Indians also adapted foods from the Persians. When the Moghuls invaded India in 1526, they brought with them ingredients from the Persian cuisine, which they highly admired. A northern Indian cuisine called mughulai is modeled after what the Persians Iranian or Persian cuisine is the traditional and modern style of cooking of Iran. Situated in the Middle East and West Asia, the Iranian culinary style is unique to Iran, though has historically both influenced and has been influenced by Iran's neighbouring and conquered regions at various stages throughout its history. Fresh green herbs are frequently used along with fruits such as plums, pomegranates, quince, prunes, apricots, and raisins. Typical Persian main dishes are combination of rice with meat, lamb, chicken, or fish and some onion, vegetables, nuts, and herbs. To achieve a balanced taste, characteristic Persian flavorings such as saffron, dried limes, cinnamon, and parsley are mixed delicately and used in some special dishes. Iranian cuisine includes a wide variety of foods ranging from chelow kabab (rice served with roasted meat: barg, koobideh, joojeh, shishleek, soltani, chenjeh), khoresh (stew that is served with white Iranian rice: ghormeh sabzi, gheimeh, fesenjān, and others), āsh (a thick soup: for example āsh-e anār), kuku (vegetable souffle), polo (white rice alone or with addition of meat and/or vegetables and herbs, including loobia polo, albaloo polo, sabzi polo, zereshk polo, baghali polo and others), and a diverse variety of salads, pastries, and drinks specific to different parts of Iran. The list of Persian recipes, appetizers and desserts is extensive. with saffron, topped with nuts, raisins, and various meats. Dishes such as kofta (KOFtah, meatballs) and pilau (POO-lau) are now common to both Iranians and northern Indians. Several of Iran's most prominent dishes originated from the Greeks, Arabs, Turks, and Russians. Greece invaded present-day Iran in the A.D. 200s, introducing stuffed grape leaves. Yogurt may have originated from either Greece or Turkey, where it is also a dietary staple. The Iranian food rules that categorize foods into "hot or "cold" is believed to have been derived from ancient Greek theories of medicine (See Mealtime Customs ). Dishes made of lamb, dates, and figs were brought into the Persian diet during the Arab invasion of the 600s. Dolma and kofte (meatballs) have become very popular throughout the Middle Eastern countries. The kebab (cubes of skewered meat) is probably the most important introduction by the Turks—it has become one of Iran's national dishes. Strong Turkish coffee was also introduced. Once a widely consumed Iranian beverage, it has now fallen behind the popularity of chây (tea). Iranian food (also referred to as Persian food) is some of the most delicious and fresh in its region. It is also quite healthy, using only small amounts of red meat (usually lamb or beef), emphasizing larger amounts of grains (especially rice), fruits, and vegetables. Although it is often lumped under the category of general "Middle Eastern" fare, the Iranian cuisine is able to retain its uniqueness in a variety of ways. One of these ways is preparing meals with contrasting flavors, such as a combination of sweet and sour or mild and spicy. The country's cuisine is largely based on berenj (rice). It is relatively inexpensive and grown locally, making it an affordable and readily available staple in the everyday diet. A typical Iranian meal is often a heaping plate of chelo (CHEH-loh; plain, cooked rice) topped with vegetables, fish, or meat. There are seemingly endless varieties of dishes that can be prepared with rice in Iran. Nân (bread), a round, flat bread that can either be baked or cooked over a bed of small stones, is the other staple food of Iranian cuisine. There are several varieties, including lavâsh , a very thin, brittle bread served for breakfast, and sangak (sahn-GAHK), a thicker, chewier variety that is usually marked by small "dimples" in the crust. Villages often make their own nân , while those who live in the city are frequently seen leaving bakeries with armfuls of freshly made loaves. Meat, particularly chicken and lamb, is most commonly eaten as kebabs (KEE-bahbs), pieces of meat served on a skewer.

Hassan Rouhani Speech to Iranians in the USA سخنرانی روحانی در جمع ایرانیان مقیم آمریکا - کامل.
Charles Krauthammer tonight sounded off on President Barack Obama’s video to the Iranian people on nuclear weapons negotiations. In the video, Obama said, “Our negotiations have made progress but gaps remain, and there are people in both our countries and beyond who oppose a diplomatic resolution. My message to you, the people of Iran, is that together we have to speak up for the future we seek.” “This is unusual in American history, a president addressing a serious adversary, enemy of the U.S., where the leader leads chants of 'death to America' […] if only he would address as warmly the Israelis as he does the Iranians and their leaders,” Krauthammer said. Krauthammer also weighed in on the White House’s remarks that the administration will take a new look at policies toward Israel after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s re-election. The administration has raised questions about Netanyahu’s commitment to a two-state solution because of remarks he made ahead of the election. Netanyahu walked back those comments in an interview with Megyn Kelly today. Krauthammer said that Netanyahu has made it clear that he’s open to a two-state solution, but the conditions are simply not there right now. Krauthammer asked: How can Israel make a peace agreement with a government that includes Hamas? “There’s no government in Israel that would hand over the West Bank to a government that includes Hamas,” Krauthammer said. Krauthammer said that the administration may be “trying to stab Israel in the back” by supporting a U.N. resolution to call for unilateral withdrawal of Israel. He added that this could be the administration’s “cynical attempt” to distract from a “catastrophic” nuclear weapons deal with Iran.

Now, despite the risks, some of them are demanding greater freedom. At a high-society rave party in the desert, young Iranians spoke frankly and openly to our reporter about life in Iran.

How To Pronounce Iranians
The Fire Jumping Festival is part of the Persian New Year's celebration. It takes place the Tuesday night before the new year, which this year is on Friday. Iranians leap over the fire to represent bringing power and life into the new year. The annual festival takes place in Germantown.
A senior Iranian official has suggested that Iran is nearing a preliminary deal with the US and five world powers that would lead to a breakthrough eluding them for more than a decade. The formal pact would limit Iran's ability to make an atomic weapon while easing punitive economic sanctions on the country. The US was less optimistic, with officials saying the sides had made progress but still had a long way to go in eliminating differences over what Iran had to do for a gradual end to sanctions. "There's no doubt they have made substantial progress over the past year," Josh Earnest, White House spokesman, said. "Reaching an agreement is at best 50-50." The sides face two deadlines: an end-of-March date for a preliminary deal, and a June deadline for a comprehensive agreement that fills in the blanks. A comprehensive agreement that the US says would stretch the time Iran would need to make a bomb from a few months to a year has been a top foreign-policy objective of the Obama administration. Challenges ahead Even a deal by deadline would not end the Iran nuclear controversy, however. Republican politicians have threatened to scuttle the deal, claiming it is ineffective, and it is expected to further cloud relations between the US and Israel if Benjamin Netanyahu, the incumbent prime minister, forms the next government, either through elections on Tuesday or as the head of a new ruling coalition. Officials for both sides have said that the talks are making headway on limiting Iranian nuclear activities that could be retooled to make weapons. In exchange, the West would progressively lift economic and political sanctions. Still, the comments by Ali Akhbar Salehi, the Iranian nuclear chief, were among the most promising to date. Only one "final item" remained contentious, he said in Lausanne, Switzerland, where the talks are being held. He did not specify the "final item". If that is resolved, "we can say that on technical issues, things are clear on both sides," he said, adding: "As a whole, I am optimistic." John Kerry, US secretary of state, and Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iranian foreign minister, have taken the lead in what formally remain talks between Iran on one side and the US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany on the other. Focus on technical issues Most of the disputes focus on technical issues like the numbers of centrifuges Iran would be allowed to operate as part of an agreement. The machines can enrich uranium up to levels used for the fissile core of nuclear arms, but Iran says it only has energy, medical and scientific aims. Salehi and Ernest Moniz, the US energy secretary, joined the talks last month to try and iron out the technical differences. But even if the final-stretch talks turn into a deal, outside interference could hurt chances of its implementation. A letter last week by Republican senators to the Iranian leadership warning that Congress could scuttle any deal continues to cast a shadow over the negotiating table. Another senior American official said the issue came up at Monday's Kerry-Zarif meeting as well as a Sunday gathering among senior US and Iranian negotiators. Both American officials quoted by the Associated Press demanded anonymity because they were not authorised to discuss the talks on record. The deal taking shape would limit Iran's uranium enrichment and other nuclear activity for at least a decade, with the restrictions slowly lifted over several years.
Researchers at Amirkabir University of Technology have developed a sensor for early gas detection, using tin dioxide-silver oxide (SnO2-Ag2O) nanocomposite. Fariborz Sharifian Jazi, Nader Parvin, Mohammad Reza Tahriri, Morteza Alizadeh, Sanam Abedini and Mehdi Alizadeh conducted the research. In the study, the nanocomposite powder is synthesized by sol-gel method using NH3OH/NaOH route. The obtained powders were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Monodispersed SnO2-Ag2O nanosized composite ranging from 80 to 400 nm in the NH3OH/NaOH route was obtained when the gel was heat-treated at different temperatures. The optimum uniform distribution of silver in SnO2 could be achieved at a temperature of 400°C.

Christopher Eric Hitchens (13 April 1949 – 15 December 2011) was an English American author and journalist whose career spanned more than four decades. Hitchens, often referred to colloquially as "Hitch", was a columnist and literary critic for New Statesman, The Atlantic, The Nation, The Daily Mirror, The Times Literary Supplement and Vanity Fair. He was an author of twelve books and five collections of essays. As a staple of talk shows and lecture circuits, he was a prominent public intellectual, and his confrontational style of debate made him both a lauded and controversial figure.
Hitchens was known for his admiration of George Orwell, Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson, as well as for his excoriating critiques of various public figures including Mother Teresa, Bill Clinton, Henry Kissinger and Diana, Princess of Wales. Although he supported the Falklands War, his key split from the established political left began in 1989 after what he called the "tepid reaction" of the Western left to the Rushdie Affair. The September 11 attacks strengthened his internationalist embrace of an interventionist foreign policy, and his vociferous criticism of what he called "fascism with an Islamic face." His numerous editorials in support of the Iraq War caused some to label him a neoconservative, although Hitchens insisted he was not "a conservative of any kind", and his friend Ian McEwan describes him as representing the anti-totalitarian left.
