This is a a 90 year old tuckpointed house in Geelong, Australia restored by Antoni Pijaca - Master Tuckpointer at ARTISAN MASONRY. I was taught the craft of tuckpointing at the age of 17. Unlike bricklayers who also carry out this work, I was never taught to lay bricks. I have devoted the last 25 years solely to tuckpointing brick and stonework. Note: Australian tuckpointing is the same as English - The process involves removing old worn out tuckpointing from mortar joints. New lime stopping mortar is then colour matched to the brick or stonework. The stopping mortar is neatly pointed and lightly brushed. Scribed level lines are cut into the stopping mortar to accept the tuckpointed ribbon. It is applied with a tuck iron and trimmed each side to leave a fine ribbon on brickwork and a slightly thicker line on larger stonework. The brick or stone is then carefully cleaned without touching any pointing and then touched up with an artists brush to hide any imperfections. I use 100 year old traditional techniques, tools and formulas. I replace the same lime material that was used on the building 100 years ago. I do not use cement, mortar guns, grout bags, latex or masking tape. I hope you enjoy my video.
