U.S. News & World Report is an American news magazine published from Washington, D.C. Along with Time and Newsweek it was for many years a leading news weekly, focusing more than its counterparts on political, economic, health and education stories. In recent years, it has become particularly known for its ranking system and annual reports on American colleges, graduate schools and hospitals.
Since June 2008, the magazine has gradually reduced its publication frequency three times, switching first from weekly to biweekly, then going monthly in November 2008. In November 2010, it was reported that U.S News & World Report would be switched to an online-only format, effective after it published its December issue; it will still publish special issues in print on colleges, hospitals, and personal finance.
United States News was founded in 1933 by David Lawrence (1888–1973), who also started World Report in 1946. The two magazines initially covered national and international news separately, but Lawrence merged them into U.S.News & World Report in 1948 and subsequently sold the magazine to his employees. In 1984, it was purchased by Mortimer Zuckerman, who is also the owner of the New York Daily News.

The girl paused at the doorway looking in
Her past was in there somewhere
It was hiding in the rafters
For the chance to drop and get her
The girl paused at the doorway looking in
She could smell it as she entered
On the curtains, in the cupboards
It was hanging in the air
And all around
The floor fell out from under
The ceiling coming down
The memories piled up on her
And she drowned
The girl paused at the doorway looking in
She decided to forget it
Because she knew it wasn't worth it
Black dot on the horizon
All I know is it's a pretty long walk
Keep a-goin pea, keep a-goin
Don't wait for me, just keep a-goin
Sunburn your skin is peeling
All I know is that it's pretty damned hot
Listen the dogs are barking
His legs they won't support him now
That he's near half a ton
But he remembers very well
A time when he could run
They ran around her bed
She chased him around her bed
Azalea
He doesn't fit behind the wheel
So he just stays inside
But he remembers very well
A time when he could ride
They rode around the bend
She rode around with him
Azalea
They found him on the kitchen floor
They said it was his heart
But I remember very well
The way he came apart
Her name was on his lips
Her name was on his lips
Comfort me you wall eyed girl
Hold me like a doll
Soft against your withered skin
Wall eyed girl
Deliver me you wall eyed girl
Pull me from the fire
Save me from this life of sin
Wall eyed girl
Sing to me you wall eyed girl
A simple lullably
As I lay me down to sleep
Wall eyed girl
All the things you thoughtwould happen didn't
And you're pissed
All the things you thought would happen didn't
And you're feeling...
So you figure all along
You must have been mistaken
All the things that mattered
One by one have been forsaken
And you're feeling gypped
In a mountain church
Cathered 'round inside
See the handsome groom
And his blushing bride
Through a hail of rice
As they run outside
Go the handsome groom
And his blushing bride
He helps her from the car
And carries her inside
See the handsome groom
And his blushing bride
Mitchell said, "Radny, you're gonna get hurt
I'm gonna strangle you with this Banlon shirt."
Randy said, "Mitchell, you just better not
There'll be hell to pay if you get caught."
Mitchell said, "Randy you're gonna get hurt
I'm gonna strangle you with this Banlon shirt."
Randy said, "MItchell, you better take care
If you do I'm gonna pull out a hank of your hair."
See the father's barn burning
Watch as the flames
Illuminate the sky
See the boy who set the fire
Watch the barn burning
In his eyes in his eyes
Hear the cattle calling out
Into the night
They crowd against the fence
Until it breaks
And as it breaks
The arson shakes
Know that it's life
And nothing more
See the boy obey the father
Stuffing the crying
Kittens in a sack
Hear the father curse the boy
And whip him with a switch
Across the back across the back
See them standing on
The bridge at twilight
They tie it to a rock
And let it go
And through the tears
It disappears
And now he knows
It's life and nothing more
And through the tears
It disappears
The path is cut the way is clear
It's up the stairs
And through the door
He finds the matches in a drawer
Into the barn he lights the hay
It catches quick
Can't find his way
Through the burning ash
And blinding smoke
He stumbles and begins to choke
A just reward a settled score
And now he knows
The dirt farmer's wife is hanging her laundry on the line
She's wasting her life but other than that she's doing fine
The gut wagon rolls trailing a cloud of flies along
Holding her nose she's trying to hear the buzzard's song
Sidewinder spoiled my shot at my precious forget-me-not
It's a red letter day and we've all confessed to petty crimes
What can she say that hasn't been said a hundred times
The dirt farmer swears his fruit is as fresh as the early spring
What does he care that she's finding worms in everything
Sidewinder spoiled my shot at my precious forget-me-not
Claimjumper stole my spot next to me precious forget-me-not
The weed garden grows just outside the kitchen door
The dirt farmer knows it won't be in bloom like it was before
Sidewinder spoiled my shot at my precious forget-me-not
This hole it has a bottom of that I have no doubt
If I could only smarten up and figure my way out
But what would I do then probably find I hate it there
And want to crawl back in
Well, I swear upon my mother and I believe with all my heart
That I could rule the world if I could get my car to start
But what would I do then with the tires around the flower beds
We?ll have to ride the rims
That would be funny, we?ll take everything we have
The shoe money and the birds will gather around our heads
And they?ll peck at our corn-like teeth
The wall around the graveyard says that 'Satan lives in Hell'
Though they may love the devil, his disciples sure can?t spell
So what do I do then I guess I?ll put the A in there
And show ?em how to sin
That would be funny, we?ll take everything we have
The shoe money and the birds will gather around our heads
Escalator, moving stairs
Blue and white rail, it disappears
It disappears, it disappears
Blue and white rail, oh, it disappears
Suck you under and eat you up
At the end girl, you better jump
You better jump, you better jump
At the end girl, oh, you had better jump
Daddy's waiting and mama too
Now ramona they wait for you
They wait for you, they wait for you
Now ramona, oh, they wait for you
But you'll remember, you always will
So ride ramona ¡®til you've had your fill
You've had your fill, you've had your fill
Your parrot, he mocks me
You better shut him up
Or else he's had it
I swear it, I'll kill it
And throw it down the basement stairs
You watch me
Redway, redway
My name is
Hey barkeep, I'm hungry
So pass me down those pickled eggs
And hurry
You tell me they'll kill me
Well if I die then I can't say
You didn't warn me
Redway, redway
My name is
You're coming to see me
To lay some flowers on my grave
And to mourn me
You ask me a question
¡°how did you die of indigestion? ¡±
Well, it happens
Redway, redway
Poor old john carradine
Before he met his maker
He got to play a part
That stands the test of time
Shouting he held aloft
The miracle elixir
The townspeople ran him off
And the sunlight took his eyes
If you ever gave a damn for sunny jim
I'm sure you must remember him
Fresh out of paper plates
Guess I'll do the dishes
Instead of washing off
Only one plate at a time
Big evening up ahead
Wide array of choices
Bladerunner, robocop,
Or the bride of frankenstein
If you ever gave a damn for sunny jim
I'm sure you must remember him
Dead soldiers line the road
Along the coffee table
Bladerunner's at the part
Where rutger hauer dies
I don't know anything
Why do I pretend to
If I did I'd be the one
Who's living with you now
If you ever gave a damn for sunny jim
The same sun shone through the window glass
The table was set with the good plates
You came down in your new easter dress
And he smiled when he said your name
He called you kitten
Who knows if you were right or not
And who cares if you lost or won
You kneel down arranging the wreath you brought
And your back is warmed by the same sun
Poor woman the people exclaimed
When julia pastrana was first shown
They marveled and pitied her fate
Covered with dark hair from top to toe
But she was of exceptional mind
And a suitor soon asked for her hand
She accepted the proposal in kind
Despite the misgivings of good friends
She said he loves me for my own sake
They were married and traveled the states
And soon they were blessed with a child
But he suffered his poor mother's fate
And lived but only a short while
And poor julia was injured inside
And soon followed her son to the grave
Her husband had them mummified
And toured until he went insane
So they found your brother's john boat
And they filled it up with fish
And your brother didn't find it for a week
And you said that you could smell it
From a hundred yards away
And that you helped him dump it in the creek
So you came upon a raven
And you thought that it was dead
But it was moving so you poked it with a stick
And you found that there were maggots
Crawling underneath the skin
And thinking of it always makes you sick
That's the biggest bug I've ever seen
And jesus, here it comes this way
There are thirteen headless turtles
Hanging on a line
Their severed heads would snap a stick
And break your finger pretty quick
The blood is draining from their necks
And out into the grass
The flies are buzzing all around
A hatchet sticking in the ground
The river looks like chocolate milk
It's foaming at the banks
The snakes come out to sun themselves
You think you've died and gone to hell
I found one in the yard
So I gave it to the dog
She barked and got it by the head
And flung it ¡®round till it was dead
And it's summer here
Out behind the barber shop
The barber's burning hair
He lights it laughing to himself
He knows you can't escape the smell
The smoke is rising from the pile
And out into the town
It stings your eyes and burns your nose
And makes it's way all through your clothes
You've got your own thing
But it's not happening
You've got your own place
But that's not where it's at
It's not happening
That's not where it's at
You're like a race car
With all the tires flat
You look like a million bucks
But where can you go like that
Like a million bucks
All the tires flat
(we all want to get to heaven
They were eighteen and twenty-four
He told her he had been to war
She loved him from the minute that he spoke
She took him in he had her pegged
She took a razor to her leg
You could hardly read it through the blood
It said I love bob
On the third day it began to rain
She said bob I just can't stand the pain
He said catch a ride hey babe I gotta go
So she drove down to emergency
And the nurse in the infirmary
Cleaned it with an antiseptic swab
It said I love bob
It's been fifteen years she's thirty-three
Five years ago she married me
Misfortunes of the past have been discussed
But sometimes no when she's alone
In bed or taking off her clothes
She traces with her fingers around the scars
If you're gonna kill yourself
You'd better do it now
Don't wanna hear that why me shit again
If you're gonna piss and moan
I'm throwing in the towel
'cause this martyr rap is wearing pretty thin
And it stinks to high heaven
If you're gonna fuck that girl
Please keep it to yourself
I'm not concerned with what you do in bed
Don't care how it sounded
Smelled or tasted looked or felt
That kind of thing is better left unsaid
This is sadness and here's what you can do with it
Leave it in a dumpster for the garbage man to find
This is disappointment and here's what you can do with it
Punch it in the stomach and blacked both it's eyes
And rest assured that you don¡®t have to worry
I can face your ghost alone
Turn off the telephone and close the curtains
Casper's coming home
This is sadness and here's what you can do with it
Tie it to a cinder block and shove it in the lake
This is disappointment and here's what you can do with it
Lay it out in a casket and drop it in a grave
And rest assured that you don¡®t have to worry
I can face your ghost alone
Turn off the telephone and close the curtains
Hey Jen
It?s me again
Tell me, how ya doin?
I know
It?s been a year or so
It?s like I died or somethin?
The weekend just went by so quickly
And now it?s incredibly slow
We?re savin? it up for the cancer show
I guess
I?m suited to this mess
To life among the ruins
Call it fate
My call was much too late
Call me good for nothin?
The weekend just went by so quickly
And now it?s incredibly slow
If I hadn?t acted so badly
You wouldn?t have reason to go
When hope is gone
We drag the pond
And try to look beyond
The dead end of summer
There's a haze hanging over the town
So hide your eyes
Ignore the flies
And try to act surprised
It's the dead end of summer
When all of the grass has gone brown
Oh, I've been x'ing out calendar days
There's a pattern to our time apart
Do I still exist
In the bottomless pit of your heart
Thrown or fell
It's hard to tell
The baby's in the well
At the dead end of summer
You better prime the divining rod
We'll drink unitl
We drink our fill
There's all this time to kill
At the dead end of summer
As you sleep between the trees I lay above you dreaming
And in my bed amidst the leaves I can barely here you screaming
And all the things that frighten me are circling in the air
It's no surprise they're telling me that it's raining everywhere
As you sleep between the trees the apples have been falling
And as I turn toward the breeze I can hear your mother calling
And all the things that frighten me get tangled in my hair
It's no surprise they're telling me that it's raining everywhere
Jet trails across an autumn sky
High tail it to your bikes and fly
If you could
Over the neighborhood
Zipped up against the evening damp
You're off and riding up the ramp
And where you land
Is different than where you planned
CHORUS
Ape hanger
We're gonna ride right off
Wrote our names on Cemetery Bridge
Threw jack-o-lanterns off the edge
Into the dark
And waited for dogs to bark
CHORUS
Passing shadows
When love is strong
The ruby cross
The rose of the world
Constant flow
The deep heart
Fat man¡¯s daughter
Christian mother
Future life
Glories of the sacred
In God¡¯s country
Man from nowhere
Dear Friends
Forgive and forget
For better for worse
In God¡¯s country
The turn of the tide
Passing shadows
When love is strong
The ruby cross
The rose of the world
Best foot forward
Hearts of gold
Dear Friends
Mysterious doorway
Future life
For better for worse
Life¡¯s blessings
In heaven we know
Our own glories
Glories of the sacred
In the wonder days
The wonder gifts
The wonder story
Christian mother
Fat man¡¯s daughter
Passing shadows
Shadows lifted
Forgive and forget
For better for worse
In God¡¯s country
Under cedars and stars
Under cedars and stars
Under cedars and stars
The future life
And wonder days
California bingo
Man I must be dreaming
Fascination on the midway
Listen to him screaming
Sounding like a preacher
Calling in the sinners
Says california bingo
Everyone's a winner
Oh I'm fucked I'm fucked
I'm fucked... again
When I'm on the midway
I'm looking for the freak tent
So I can seek salvation
In among the misfits
And when it comes showtime
I won't need a decoy
I'll be inside a glass jar
Her father was a sailor
Looked so handsome in the picture
Her mother loved her soldier
She was crying as she held her
Anchored in the harbor
It was burning on the water
A daughter was delivered
On the seventh of december
She said hey what is it like
I'm gonna walk around the yard
Until I find a hill of ants
Take a magnifying glass
Heat ¡®em up and watch ¡®em dance
And I only hurt because I think of you
And I only kill because God tells me to
I drove by your house today
But I didn't dare to stop
And I felt just like an ant
Doctor, doctor, where's the doctor
Wringing wet the woman hollers
Bandage wrapped around her hand
Collapses as they run to help her
Help her up and offer water
Did somebody call the doctor
Loud machines so foreign to her
Sent her splashing red against the wall
As her fingers fall
In the back a black piano
Sits in silence what do we know
Of it's past and of a time
And of the place it occupied
In the parlor with the daughter
Playing for her drunken father
Listening until he cried
You hear it echo out into the hall
As her fingers fall
In a bra and underwear
She's balanced now upon a chair
A letter written, tucked inside
A paperback, the rope is tied
Around her neck and through the rafters
This is it. she'll show the bastards
Everything she said was true
And now she'll be the envy of them all
Time marches on so I've heard and I won't contest it
Still I would like to believe that I've got a bit more time
I could tell this to you but I wouldn't try it
I'm diving down over you like a fighter pilot
But all the ammunition's gone
And all the engines have been blown
Watch it all go up in smoke¡ oh no
I've been put off in my search for the perfect fortress
Still I can dream of a place where I know I'd win the fight
I could tell this to you but I wouldn't buy it
I'm diving down over you like a fighter pilot
But all the ammunition's gone
And all the engines have been blown
When I'm away
When I'm away
I swear under heaven
It's always eleven : eleven
And why it works I haven't a clue
Because I take so much of you
And piss it away
I piss it away
And I swear under heaven
It's always eleven : eleven
And it's time for a break
For all our sake
For all our sake
It's time for a break
It's nothing but a dirty backseat car thing
Just listen to that jesus jumper sing
He's got the angels in his throat
But the devil's down there in his scrote
The way he drags it in the dirt
Is enough to make your stomach hurt
But to call that mock messiah king
It's nothing but a dirty backseat car thing
I am the truest man of god
I am the one and only son
Sheddeth thy robe proveth thy love
It's nothing but a dirty backseat car thing
She kissed that pulpit pounder's ring
I tried to talk her down to earth
But she kept on babbling about rebirth
She gave up all her worldly goods
She claims he's just misunderstood
But the shit that Bible banger slings
It's nothing but a dirty backseat car thing
I am the truest man of god
I am the one and only son
She bolts the door
To shield us from the storm
All the windows locked
All the curtains drawn
Too afraid to look
Too scared for words
Out in the night sky
Dead fly the birds
She speaks of ghosts
That she alone can see
Out in the rain
Robots coming through the corn
Magnus, sir lancelot reborn
For you he lays it on the line
For you defending human kind
Built a little wider magnus, robot fighter
Robots up around the bend
Magnus, with you until the end
For you he takes it to the wall
For you annihilates ¡®em all
Wound a little tighter magnus, robot fighter
Magnus is dreaming of the day
When robots won't get in the way
For you he plays it as it's dealt
For you he'll sacrifice himself
Lit a little brighter magnus, robot fighter
The quiet one, the one named steven
Listens to the voice of reason
They miss him at the kitchen
Where he's given daily bread
Another one, the one named harry
Vegetable or visionary
Said he had a dream with steven
Flying overhead
He watched him until he lost him in the sun
He must be having some kind of fun
A thousand miles, a world away
A woman starts another day
She drinks her mud and draws a tub
And waits for it to fill
A box arrives with nothing in it
Setting off her head a spin
It goes round and round and round
Until it all begins to spill
Before she knows another day is done
She must be having some kind of fun
Walking on the road side
The rain was coming through our coats
The abandoned car came into view
Finding one door open
We gave a cry and dove inside
And that was where
We spent the afternoon
Afternoon
Oh, I thank you for the roses
Thank you for the ride
I caught with you
Standing on the curb side
Waiting for the light to go
Talking of our million things to do
A simple minded man there
Kept repeating go, go, go
And when he stopped
He was looking right at you
Right at you
Oh, I thank you for the roses
Thank you for the ride
Scatman crothers he and I are brothers
He's got an x-tra nipple and I'm fascinated
That moms mabley I heard she had a baby
It's got an x-tra nipple and I'm fascinated
I'm so fascinated by these special people
Frank langella he's my kind of fella
He's got an x-tra nipple and I'm fascinated
Bo-bo-barigmy chicks they really dig me
I've got an x-tra nipple and they're fascinated
Here's my folded finger church and here's the steeple
Passing shadows when love is strong
The ruby cross, the rose of the world
Constant flow, the deep heart
Fat man?s daughter, Christian mother
Future life, glories of the sacred
In God?s country, man from nowhere
Dear friends
Forgive and forget
For better for worse
In God?s country
The turn of the tide
Passing shadows when love is strong
The ruby cross, the rose of the world
Best foot forward, hearts of gold
Dear friends
Mysterious doorway, future life
For better for worse, life?s blessings
In heaven we know our own glories
Glories of the sacred in the wonder days
The wonder gifts, the wonder story
Christian mother, fat man?s daughter
Passing shadows, shadows lifted
Forgive and forget
For better for worse
In God?s country
Under cedars and stars
Under cedars and stars
Under cedars and stars
Last night it snowed
Powdered sugar cedars lined the road
They looked good enough to eat
But I don't think I would
I can't imagine that they'd taste too good
A blanket white
At least it was when it came down last night
The morning brings the rain
The blanket's washed away
Now everything turns back to grey
And now you're there
The rain is falling, wetting down your hair
I hate to be the one to say I told you so
But I believe I might have told you so
So live and learn
The snow is melting, never to return
Cross your t's and dot your i's
And write "the end,"
Maybe someday it'll snow again
I caught you lying again it's pretty easy if you know how to play
So what you say we make it two out of three
I heard you're dying again well what disease have you contracted today
Just as long as you don't give it to me as you don't give it to me
You're waiting tables again and you're counting on a generous tip
But then the tipper doesn't always come through
You're in the gables again getting ready for a fabulous trip
You'd better watch or it could happen to you
When the devil's minions take you down try to mark a path
Something I can follow
When the devil's minions hit the ground you can point and laugh
Cause I won't let them swallow you down
You're on the trestle again and your toes are hanging over the edge
And your reflection's in the water below
We'll have to wrestle again but there's a wager that I'm willing to hedge
Cause you can bet I won't be letting you go
When the devil's minions take you down try to mark a path
Something I can follow
When the devil's minions hit the ground you can point and laugh
The day begins like another day
I hear a sermon it must be sunday
Words are echoing all around
Coming through the fog
On my elbows I look around
Nothing here but the sound
Of breathing
All the pillows are in a pile
And the blanket is off
I thought the windows
Were made of glass
I thought the patterns
Were on the ceiling
I thought the pictures
Were parallel
I thought that I knew it all
I didn't know I was stupid
I didn't think I was stupid
I couldn't tell I was stupid
I didn't know it at all
I get a call from a good friend
And oh I'm alive again
She says she's in for the weekend
And just happened to call
I try keeping her on the line
Saying whatever comes to mind
She says it sounds like you're doing fine
I can be your supersize
You can be my only
Onion rings or curly fries
Quarter pounder skip the salad bar
Please don't kick my busted heart too far
I can be your oppenheim
You can be my only
Trying to think of words that rhyme
Find a notebook meet me at the car
Please don't kick my busted heart too far
I can be your soft machine
You could be my only
Cultivate obscurity
Save your tonsils in a mason jar
Please don't kick my busted heart too far
I can be your frankenstein
You could be my only
Tie me down with baler twine
Run your forked tongue along my scar
Mustard gas and curly fries
Boys do well but girls, they die
You and I will take a trip now
Do the things that we think are hip, now
I said, we all love peanut butter
Take a feather and fly it from a roof
Maybe do a swan dive from a roof
Some say she's crazy and some say I'm a nut
Peanuts are nice but the acid is rare
I said, we all love peanut butter
Take your beat off hand and fly off in a rage
Take your beat off hand and seal it in a cage
Now my story is comin' to an end
Make sure it's a story and not your best friend
He was born to a whore
On a flophouse floor
They held him up and he cried
Said have you ever heard
A sound so sore
Said not since superman died
She cursed and hit
And denied him tit
'til he grew and ate her alive
Said have you ever seen such a mess
Said not since superman died
She was walking down
Near the edge of town
So they stopped and gave her a ride
Said have you ever been to baltimore
Said not since superman died
She wagged her tongue
As he gripped his gun
And she touched his hand and he cried
Said have you ever had a girl before
Said not since superman died
He was caught in the midst
Of a nicotine fit
It burned him up from inside
Said otis do you have a cigarette
Said not since superman died
They wrapped her in a plastic bag
And threw her over the side
Said otis do you ever feel remorse
On the news today
They ran her picture twice
They found her in a shallow stream
Half frozen in the ice
You listen to the rain
From your room all day
It continues raining
It will wash it all away
No dope, no cigarettes
To keep the devil down
You know you won't forget
The things that haunt you now
No drug that you can get
Will wipe it all away
No dope no cigarettes today
In your bed at night
Trapped between the sheets
You hear the monster coming
As you try to go to sleep
And when you close your eyes
And you're playing dead
You see the ones who say
the storm was blowing from the south
the blood was running from your mouth
i recall the music playing
couldn't hear what you were saying
the cat was howling, yowling, wanting out
you may not believe me
baby, when i tell you
that i am mr. superlove
the glass was shattered on the floor
a hundred pieces maybe more
i remember you were crying
just before you sent it flying
the sirens sounding
the pounding on the door
you may not believe me
baby, when i tell you
that i am mr. superlove
your clothes were lying on the chair
your face was hidden by your hair
and all that i could think of then
was what it must have felt like when
you were flying naked
headlong down the stairs
you may not believe me
baby, when i tell you
Hey man you wanna be the pilot
Of a kamikaze aeroplane
Instead I bet you're gonna add it to
A list of things you never tried
You're a fifth wheel, a fourth class
Third string second rate kind of guy
And sometimes you feel like
A pot lick limp dick butterfly
Hey man you wanna jump a canyon
On a rocket powered motor bike
Instead I bet you're gonna add it
To a list of things you never tried
'coz you're a fifth wheel, a fourth class
Third string second rate kind of guy
And sometimes you feel like
A pot lick limp dick butterfly
Sometimes you feel like
A pot lick limp dick butterfly
Sometimes you feel like
A pot lick limp dick butterfly
Hey man you wanna be the pilot
Of a kamikaze aeroplane
Instead I bet you're gonna add it to
A list of things you never tried
You're a fifth wheel, a fourth class
Third string second rate kind of guy
And sometimes you feel like
A pot lick limp dick butterfly
Gimme gimme some love
Sometimes you feel like
A pot lick limp dick butterfly
Sometimes I feel like
It?s Oskar and he?s blowing his horn
And revving up his engine
All the way through Rabbittown
The devil comes out on the proch
And says, ?If I had a nickel
For every time I?ve heard that horn?
The snake man from on the TV
Figures he will wiggle
Until the good lord takes him home
Grow like a weed
See the man standing in the doorway
(down at the Bible house)
He's got a meat hook in his hand
There's a slab hanging in the closet
Gonna drag that meat to the promised land
See the girl working in the kitchen
She's got scars up and down her arms
Cigarette burning in the ashtray
You wouldn't think that it could do any harm
Everybody's happy
Everybody's smiling
You wonder if it's really true
All the little sinners
Underneath the floor
You wonder what they really do
See the group gathered in a circle
Holding hands and waiting for a sign
There's a smell coming through the floorboards
You know that devil's been here all this time
See the crowd coming up the driveway
The good people of the town
They've got gasoline and matches
They're gonna burn that hell house down
Everybody's happy
Everybody's smiling
You wonder if it's really true
All the little sinners
Underneath the floor
