An actor (sometimes actress for female; see terminology) is a person who acts in a dramatic or comic production and who works in film, television, theatre, or radio in that capacity. The ancient Greek word for an "actor," ὑποκριτής (hypokrites), means literally "one who interprets"; in this sense, an actor is one who interprets a dramatic character.
After 1660, when women first appeared on stage, actor and actress were initially used interchangeably for female performers, but later, influenced by the French actrice, actress became the usual term. The etymology is a simple derivation from actor with ess added. The word actor refers to a person who acts regardless of gender, and this term "is increasingly preferred", while actress refers specifically to a female person who acts. Actress "remains in general use", although in a survey of a "wide cross-section of current British English", compiled in 2010, actor was almost twice as commonly found as actress. Within the profession, however, the re-adoption of the neutral term dates to the 1950s–60s, the post-war period when women's contribution to cultural life in general was being re-evaluated.Actress remains the common term used in major acting awards given to female recipients.

Everyone has a void to fill.
You see she is the actress who plays the part of snow
And when they ask her to play Jesus well she turned down the role
And when they ask her to play sunlight she gave it a try
And when they ask her to play music she'll sing till she dies
Well she wouldn't die of pleasure, she wouldn't die from pain
She wouldn't die of starshine and she'll forgive the rain
And some say she whiles away her life in the lights that change her
She will not live for friends she'll die of strangers
She will not live for friends she's gonna die of strangers
And all her young men told her they liked the songs they heard
They loved the melodies but they didn't understand the words
And some say she whiles away her life in the lights that change her
She will not live for friends she's gonna die of strangers
She wouldn't live for friends she'll die of strangers
Won't you lay down children, won't you lay and take you rest
Won't you lay your head on you dear Saviour's breast
Well I love you but Jesus loves you best
And I bid you good night, good night, good night
And I bid you good night, good night, good night, good night, good night
They're gonna eat up all the children when they wouldn't be good
Good night, good night, good night
You see she was the actress who played the part of snow
And when they ask her to play Jesus well she turned down the role
And when they ask her to play sunlight she gave it a try
And when they ask her to play music, her own sweet music
Now they asked her to play music and she sang till she died
Well I love you but Jesus loves you the best
(Verse)
She sleeps better with the TV on
She came in dark but she goes out blonde
Her mother slept with a Rolling Stone
Her lights are on but she’s never at home
She’s never at home
(Chorus)
She’s an actress tryna’ learn the art
Actress searching for a part
If you ask her, ask her what she’s in
And watch her act again
(Verse)
Still trying to figure out who she is
Sometimes she’s mine but she’s always his
She made a movie once for fifty bucks
You can still get it if you know where to look
If you know where to look
(Chorus)
She’s an actress tryna’ learn the art
Actress searching for a part
If you ask her, ask her what she’s in
And watch her act again
(Verse)
All lies, all lies
Bad breaks and broken minds
Old words of make believe
One more honey just for me
(Bridge)
(Actress…)
Tryna’ find a line
(Actress…)
Tryna’ hold back time
(Ask her…)
Ask her what she’s in
And watch her act again
(Verse)
She leaves the doorway right behind her
Her whole world is a stage
She needs to feel your eyes upon her
As she dances in a cage
The music’s pumping louder
As her mind heads to the stars
She gets clarity of thought in the back of someone else’s car
(Chorus)
She’s an actress tryna’ learn the art
Actress searching for a part
If you ask her, ask her what she’s in
And watch her act again
She’s an actress…
If you ask her, ask her what she’s in
And watch her act again
She’s an actress…
