An animation director is the director in charge of all aspects of the animation process during the production of an animated film or animated segment for a live-action film. This may include directing the character design, background animation, and any other aspect of animation.

The role is not the same as the director of an animated film.

"Animation Director" can sometimes refer to somebody who handles the technical aspect of animation while a director works out everything on storyboards.

In the United States, the terms animation director and supervising animator are sometimes used interchangeably, and in essence, they refer to the same thing. As they are usually called supervising animators in the American tradition, animation directors who work in the United States will henceforth be referred to by that term. However, one key difference does exist: under the classical Disney model of American animation, supervising animators directly oversee the animation of a single character. For example, Eric Goldberg was the supervising animator of the Genie in Aladdin, but he was not involved in the animation of any other major characters or sequences.

Peter Lord CBE (born 1953 in Bristol, United Kingdom) is a British film producer, director and co-founder of the Academy award-winning Aardman Animations studio, an animation firm best known for its clay animated films and shorts, particularly those featuring plasticine duo Wallace & Gromit.

In cooperation with David Sproxton, a friend of his youth, he realised his dream of "making and taking an animated movie". He graduated in English from the University of York in 1976. He and Sproxton founded Aardman as a low-budget backyard studio, producing shorts and trailers for publicity. Later on, in the early eighties Nick Park joined the group. Lord, Park and Sproxton developed and finalised their style of detailed and lovingly designed clay animation characters from stop motion techniques (though directed by Stephen Johnson their claymation is shown in the music video Sledgehammer (1986) by Peter Gabriel). In 1991 Lord animated Adam, a 6 minute clay animation that was nominated for an Academy Award. Park created the "odd-couple" Wallace and Gromit-shorts in cooperation with Lord and Sproxton. All three together worked as producers, editors and directors. Other awarded productions by Peter Lord are Chicken Run (2000), the first feature film from Aardman and the Academy Award-winning Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005).

Konstantin Eduardovich Bronzit (b. April 12, 1965 in Leningrad) is a Russian animator and animation film director.

He is a graduate of the St. Petersburg Repin Institute of Fine Art in 1983. He worked as an artist-animator at the animated film studio Lennauchfilm (Studio of Popular Science Films), which created educational animations. It was there that he completed his first film, Merry-Go-Round or The Round-About (Карусель, Karusel), in 1988.

In 1992, he graduated from the V. Mukhina Leningrad Higher Art and Industrial Academy and in 1994 from the "Higher Courses in Scriptwriting and Directing in Moscow" under the tutorship of Fyodor Khitruk.

From 1993-1995 he worked as a scriptwriter, director and animator at the Moscow Animation Studio "Pilot", where he created several short films. From 1996-1999 he worked at the studio Pozitiv TV. In 1999 he completed his short film At the Ends of the Earth, which was aggressively pushed around the film festival circuit by the French distributor Folimage, eventually gathering nearly 70 awards.

Rich Moore (born May 10, 1963) is an American animation director and a business partner in Rough Draft Studios, Inc., where he serves as Sr. Vice President of creative affairs. He is one of a handful of artists who in the early 90s redefined prime time television animation with his work on The Simpsons. His directing credits include The Simpsons, Futurama, The Critic, Drawn Together, Spy vs. Spy (for MADtv) and Baby Blues. He was also the supervising director on Futurama and The Critic, overseeing the creative production of both shows. His most recent work was sequence director on The Simpsons Movie and animation executive producer on the Futurama DVD movies. He studied animation at California Institute of the Arts. Rich has received two Emmy Awards, an Annie Award, and a Reuben Award for his directorial work.^{[citation needed]}

Rich also recently served as a supervising director on the Fox television series Sit Down, Shut Up, which debuted in 2009. Moore is currently directing Wreck-It Ralph for the Walt Disney Animation Studios with a 2012 release date.

Regina Maria Póvoa Pessoa Martins (born 16 December 1969) is a Portuguese animator.

Regina Pessoa was born in Coimbra, but lived in a village near the city until she was seventeen. Without a TV, she spent her time reading, listening to the older ones telling stories and also painting her grandmother's house doors and walls using coal, encouraged by her uncle.

She graduated in painting from University of Porto in 1998 and during her time as a student took part in different animation workshops, having participated in Espace Projets (Annecy, 1995) with the short A Noite, which she would finish in 1999.

In 1992 she started working in Filmógrafo - Estúdio de Cinema de Animação do Porto, where she collaborated as animator in various films.

Her latest short História Trágica com Final Feliz is the most awarded Portuguese film ever.
