Sally (1929) is the third all talking-all color movie ever made (the first was On with the Show 1929). The color process of Sally was Technicolor. Sally was also the 6th color movie released by Warner Brothers, the first five were The Desert Song (1929), On with the Show (1929), Gold Diggers of Broadway (1929), Paris (1929), and The Show of Shows (1929).
It was based on the Broadway stage hit, produced by Florenz Ziegfeld (which played at The New Amsterdam Theatre, from 12/21/1920 to 4/22/1922), and retains three of the stage production's Jerome Kern songs ("Look for the Silver Lining", "Sally", and "Wild Rose"), the rest of the music newly written for the film by Al Dubin and Joe Burke. Marilyn Miller, who had played the leading part in the Broadway production, was hired by the Warner Brothers at an extravagant sum (reportedly $1000 an hour for a total of $100,000) to star in the filmed version. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Art Direction by Jack Okey in 1930.
Sally (Marilyn Miller) is an orphan who was named by the telephone exchange where she was abandoned as a baby. In the orphanage, she discovered the joy of dancing. Working as a waitress, she serves Blair (Alexander Gray), and they both fall for each other, but Blair is engaged to socialite Marcia. Sally is hired to impersonate a famous Russian dancer named Noskerova, but at that engagement, she is found to be a phoney. Undaunted, she proceeds with her life and has a show on Broadway, but she still thinks of Blair.
Plot
A fantastical romantic comedy that takes you back to those childhood memories when, if you could just have stopped time for a few moments...oh wait....now you can... It's the annual school science fair. James has his eye on Sally. Sally just wants to win this year's science fair trophy. She's tried really hard with her Plant Growth experiment but nasty Mr Spencer crushes her attempts with a few cutting remarks. So it's a good thing that James' entry for this year is a time machine. He's able to stop time and help transform Sally from a shaky leaf into the blossoming rose she's meant to be. Much to the annoyance of Mr Spencer, especially when he has to award Sally with the trophy.
Plot
Dante and Minnie is the story of two young homeless people. Minnie is trying to escape life on the streets, while Dante is trying to escape the real world by retreating to the streets. They fell in love as their paths crossed, but now they struggle as they each try to push the other in the direction they are headed.
Plot
After losing his job as a bus driver, Harry Walker is left homeless. He sits on the cold city street begging for money. When he receives a few coins in his cup one day, he decides to spend it on a bus ride for old time's sake. The bus driver reluctantly lets him on board, and the other passengers are repulsed by the dirty, smelly old man. At the end of the line most passengers leave the bus and new ones board, while Harry remains firmly in his seat. The driver steps out for a break, leaving his keys on the dashboard. Harry suddenly experiences an intense desire to steal the bus. Will he resist temptation or be taken for the ride of his life?
Plot
Oliver is a young boy who dreams of adventure but leads a normal 10 year old life. However, when his grandfather falls ill it is up to Oliver and his friends to find the lost Temple of Life and bring back some of the magic water in order to save him.
The Religious Sex Scandal That Shook The World!
Words and music by Greg Hough
You remember Sally, used to be so happy
Walkin' down that street with a smile upon her face
Never had a worry, she never had a care
And when she came to see me she would brighten up my face
Sally was that kind of girl, sure would like to know
And everywhere that Sally went the lamb was sure to go
Somebody said they saw her on the other side of town
Said she was smokin' weed and drinkin', probably foolin' 'round
That's too bad about Sally because she was so nice
The next time that I see that girl, I'll give her my advice
Why would she want to run away from God and all His love
And go back in that world and live so hard and rough
You know that I don't feel too bad, Sally moved away
'Cause everytime I'd look at her she set my mind astray
Now Sally was that kind of girl, I wish that she was mine
Just to know that she was there, even that was fine
There's just one thing that I don't understand
And that's the part that's the part that's rough
Why would she want to run away from God and all His love
Repeat twice
Sally, what can I say about you?
That would be true without you
With your ribbons hanging rainbows in your hand?
You know, he's young and still unproven
And to himself unspoken
And though his roads like thieves appear
Lead him to think he's left what's near
He's gonna look for you to be who you are
Your friends are telling you to leave him
As though they really knew him
While they rob you with their honor and your name
But you won't give up now with all your pure love
Give up with all your strong love
He's gonna know when he's just as far as any body goes
And he'll look for you to be who you are
Sometimes my thinking gets so heavy
I feel, I stand too closely
And it's so useless, somehow, I should run away
But that's not the truth no matter what is
No matter who they say is
It's you and you alone can be sure that you're not wrong
You've got all you need to be who you are
Sally, What can I say about you?
That would be true without you
With your ribbons hanging rainbows in your hand
You know, he's young and still unproven
And to himself unspoken
And though his roads like thieves appear
Lead him to think he's left what's near
Snared about her winsome glance
And mad about the town
Kicking heels has lost its charm and every boy's a
clown
Leave a trail of dusted boots and choose a toe cap then
Or kiss me here or kick me there
Lovers wont be friends
I'm a plough and you're a furrow
I'm a fox and you're a burrow
I'm a weed and you are the road
You were a man (You were a man)
And I'm alone
Sally was a daisy chain
And Sally was a rock
Sally let her hair hang low
And Sally wore a frock
Someone saw a local boy crawl along the shore
Well, must be someone's son they thought and should've
thought some more
I'm a plough and you're a furrow
I'm a fox and you're a burrow
I'm a weed and you are the road
You're a man (You were a man)
I'm alone
Sally saw the boy come near
Right beneath the sun
Breathing hard and cockle proud
And Sally's heart was won
Not a boy she knew at first,
Not a face she'd seen
Or whispered through her ready lips
"I'll be the best I've been"
I'm a plough and you're a furrow
I'm a fox and you're a burrow
I'm a weed and you are the road
You're a man (You were a man)
I'm alone
And I scorched his fingers in her face
Scrubby mitts, saving grace
Coughed a liver
Winked to die
Why don't you lie?
Several gloves and half-cocked eyes
Bring nature to their deviled lives
Win some misses wanting lads
Aging in their passing fads
Leave a trail of dusted boots
And choose a toe cap then
Kiss me here or kick me there
And lovers might be friends
I'm a plough and you're a furrow
I'm a fox and you're a burrow
I'm a weed, you are the road
Sally scanned me right out the condo
How quick, How quick the mind goes
Game meets game that's how the life goes
Stripped the boy out of his house coat
Higggggggh, high up in the sky
Cold as ice
Tell no lies
Sally, oh those thick caramel thighs
There's something else your momma gave you, those beautiful green eyes
The same kind of green like the dollars that they stick to you
They stick it to you plenty 'cause you know just what to do up there
Sally why you wanna do that?
I ain't gonna hurt cha, I ain't cha daddy
Sally you ain't gotta do that
Need someone to love ya, not like your daddy
Your daddy taught you a thing or two about living in a cold, cold world
He said he'd treat you special like, called you his little girl
Ooh and I get so red hot mad thinking about that dirty old man
When I see you up there dancing, trying to get that money while you can
Sally why you wanna do that?
I ain't gonna hurt cha, I ain't cha daddy
Sally you ain't gotta do that
Need someone to love ya, not like your daddy
Need someone to love ya, not like your daddy
Sally everything's gonna be alright
You don't have to put on the red light tonight
Sally why you wanna do that?
I ain't gonna hurt cha, I ain't cha daddy, I'm not your daddy, baby
Sally you ain't gotta do that
Need someone to love ya, not like your daddy
Sally why you wanna do that?
I ain't gonna hurt cha, I ain't cha daddy
Sally you ain't gotta do that
Showed me things I ain't never seen before,
The whole universe is ours to explore,
Found me through the fabric of space and time;
Lady you blew my mind.
Is this dream or is this reality?
Like waking up in the matrix; I'm no longer me.
You have control of my body; under control.
You grabbed hold of my soul.
Had a strong hold;
Time folds in when I'm in; can't see where I end or begin.
Are you truely a friend?
Where did I go? Where have I been?
Mind blowing.
Now all knowing, growing from within... seen the light, tried to fight I had to let go and give in,
Is this right, taking flight. My ego must come to an end.
As the grin turns into hysterical laughter;
What is my search? What am I after?
I just have to explore
I've just got to know more
Sally, please, open up the door.
Sally
Sally
Oh, what a rush
As you pull and push;
Got me higher than kush.
So sensitive to your every touch.
Out of the body is what I feel.
This has got to be real.
Flickering flames dance and amaze me.
Holding on to my sanity; am I going crazy?
Goddess got us in a remarkable trance.
Tripping like LSD, girl, you got me.
Walking through heaven; at the same time hell.
I call out and yell. (HELP!)
Like being in a dream, no one can hear me scream.
Am I breaking through all because of you?
What a ride.
Rest in pieces from the inside as my thoughts takes form.
My body is warm and sweaty.
A tear falls from my eye because I don't think I was ready.
It's way too heavy.
I can't stay.
I got to go.
Is it love or lust? I don't know.
It's getting dark.
Where did the glow go?
So cold to the core of my being,
What in the world is this that I'm seeing?
Far beyond believing; this feels like the way I be leaving earth.
Please wake me from this dream it; it hurts.
My whole life ripping at the seams.
I pray to god and the heavens around me
We now live in a world of little or no love.
Hate surrounds me.
Sally I'm so still and I'm glad that you found me.

She took a ride on another train
She couldn't cry cuz her face was bleeding
She booked a ticket in another name.
She never thought it would be so easy
She's never ever been together,
but she's never meant to fall apart,
It hurts her either way.
Coulda put em' back together,
all the pieces of a broken heart.
It hurts you anyway.
When you dont know be shouldnt be
Where the life should of been
Sally, don't let the rain get you down,
Look out the window
Something's coming in
that's gonna chase away your sorrow.
Don't let the rain get you down
look out the window
Gotta shine again like the world around you
Sally,
who turned on you
Made you black eyed
Sally blue
Sally who turned on you
Made you blacked eyed
Sally!
She took a ride on another train
She couldn't cry cuz her face was bleeding
She booked a ticket in another name
She never thought it would be so easy
She's never ever been together,
but she's never meant to fall apart,
It hurts her either way.
Coulda put em' back together,
all the pieces of a broken heart.
It hurts you anyway.
The pleasures could of been
And the blue is that shes easy and I love you so
Sally, don't let the rain get you down.
Look out the window,
something's comming in.
that's gonna chase away your sorrow.
Sally, don't let the rain get you down.
Look out the window,
something's comming in.
Gotta Shine again, like the world around you.
I could love you tomorrow
And see that you dont know my love at all
Dont let the rain get you down
Look out the window
Somethings coming in
Thats gonna chase away the sorrow
Dont let the rain
Get you down, look out the window
Gotta shine again
Like the world around you
Sally,who turned on you
Made you black eyed, Sally blue?

Sally, Sally, pride of our alley
Sally, Sally...
Don't ever wander
Away from the alley and me
Sally, Sally...
Marry me Sally
And happy forever I'll be
When skies are blue
You're beguiling
And when they're grey
You're still smiling, smi-i-iling
Sally, Sally...
Pride of our alley
You're more than
The whole world too-oo me...
The skies were blue
When he met you, Sally
You were his gal
His little pal, so true
You came along
Made life a song, Sally...
If he lost you
He wonders what he'd do
Sally, Sally...
Don't ever wander
Away from the alley and me
Sally, Sally...
Marry me Sally
And happy forever I'll be
When skies are blue
You're beguiling
And when they're grey
You're still smiling, smi-i-iling
Sally, Sally...
Pride of our alley
You're more than
Sally| you gotta look out for yourself| forget that
fella
Your colour| you look like kodachrome you’ve gone| a
little yella
You’re coming up with nothing| no reason to go on
I gotta tell you something | I still long | to hear
from you
But better | get diplomatic all this fighting
All this fighting is getting nowhere
I’ll take a number
And maybe in time you will take | another
I’m coming up with nothing I know I should move on
I gotta tell you something I still long| I still long
to hear from you
‘Til somewhere down the line
I’ll break my will
Or make you mine
And all the while I’m lookin’ for revelations
How does she stain my flesh
The great unwash| the great unrest
That’s why you’re leaving
And I’m coming up with nothing
No reason to go on
I gotta tell you something I still long| I still long
to hear from you
Isn't it good to know
You only get one go?
Give me a key and let me see.
Try and act normally!
Seems it's an ancient art
To be the one who starts it rolling.
Wouldn't you like to know the way?
Hear what the wise man say.
[ chorus ]
Sally, I'm just a gorilla.
I'll say I'll love you ever more.
Even an ape from manila
Couldn't stop me knocking on your door!
One and a-one make two.
Only you must come through.
If there's a way, then let me say:
I'd rather stay with you.
Seems it's an ancient art
To be the one who starts it rolling.
Wouldn't you like to know the way?
Hear what the wise man say.

Sally wants to be my friend she wants to be the one

Sally, she says the sweetest things
But words won't stop the pain
She's painting skies of blue
While i'm standing in the rain
I love her still i always will
Sally, she sings the sweetest songs
But the melody is a lie
She's had a change of heart
I can see it in her eyes
I love her so i can't let go
Save every moment save every hour
Gone are the golden days we knew
Someone is lonely in love with the other
And i'm still in love with you
She was a flower child
When whe came into my life
And now the decades gone
And nothings turned out right
The feelings gone but life goes on
Someone is lonely
In love with the other
And i'm still in love with you
Sally, she says the sweetest things
But words won't ever do
You're throwing stones at me
That i can't throw back at you
I love you still
Well, come on babytake a chance
and get your shit together
Well, come on babytake a risk
until it comes out right
Drop your shadow on a subway wall
back in the saddle you can hear the call
Come on baby take a chance
and get your shit together
Well your illusion ain't a lie
it's a crime
Ride, ride Sally ride
Hop on and take a ride
on my motor bike
Singin', ride, ride Sally ride
like the speed of light on a road rage suicide
Well, now is the time
'cause I ain't got the time forever
Well, now is the time
so you better put up a fight
Drop your shadow on a subway wall
back in the saddle you can hear the call
Well, now is the time
cause I ain't got the time forever
Your illusion
ain't a lie it's a crime
Ride, ride Sally ride
Hop on and take a ride
on my motor bike
Singing, ride, ride Sally ride
like the speed of light on a
road rage suicide
senza pensare a niente
broken man said he'd take the chance
ring the bell for a dead romance
a madam rouge with your bag of tricks
there's nothing here that you can fix
mother's child has gone astray
i don't think she'll go to church today
i don't think so
king for king
and a queen for a king
bring all the things that will make him sing
sorrow falls like a heavy rain
shot in the dark
and baby you kick back again
sally's in love
slashed his face
smashed the window
she bust the place
i once learned to get drunk on blood
lucky on wine
touch on wood
sugar for sugar
and salt for salt
if you can't cum baby
that's your fault
flash knife kid's got a dad that moans
broken up like everything he owns
sally's in love
Sally
Moves from place to place
Sally moves from place to place.
You never really know her or what she says.
Because perfection has it's own ways,
Perfection has it's own ways.
Sally moves from place to place.
You never really know her that's what she says.
Because perfection has it's own ways,
Cause perfection never ever stays.
You've never really told her just what you want.
You let the reasons fly above your head
Well she hides her problems under the bed.
Let's go out, show me directions
Don't you hide your intentions
I look out to the rainbow
Just stop pulling my elbow
I know you're just inventing
that's why, that's why i'm faking
I know, I see it in you
That's why, that's why I continue
We're these lies, we're these lies.
Running together, moving like the flies.
We're these lies, we're these lies.
Running together, moving like the flies.
I know all this is boring,
I know you're just ignoring.
If I had a clue and a room
I would need a car to get you home tonight
Again, Oh yeah, again
Got to get your hearing right
Or the fright
Never know what you're getting into
Now again, oh yeah, again
So you tell me lend me an ear
You're to hear
I'm the one and only hand that you can hold
Again, oh yeah, again
Not to say a bird in the hand should be glad
Some small mercies, all you will ever have
Again, oh yeah, again
So the stakes couldn't make
I don't need the help of you
Could you try out of sight
For I haven't got a clue
I haven't got what it takes to...
Got it wrong
Sally's won
Denim suits get it
(That's just what I was told
And I don't care if I was sold)
So you were right
Sally flyed
I don't know what hit
(I accept and can take the blame
Can you fake when the fake is lame)
Changing round I have found
Whether you're in can only leave you drowned
Again, oh yeah, again
Get the message loud and clear for my dear
Places I will go to lumber with my gear
Again, oh yeah, again
So the stakes couldn't make
I don't need the help of you
Could you try out of sight
For I haven't got a clue
I haven't got what it takes to...
Got it wrong
Sally's won
Denim suits get it
(That's just what I was told
And I don't care if I was sold)
So you were right
Sally flyed
I don't know what hit
(I accept and can take the blame
Can you fake when the fake is lame)
If you need a little help to move, let me know
'Cause hardly I can wait to say to you, let go
Vilify me if it makes the cut turn you on
And I'm sure by the time you gain
If I had a clue and a room
I would need a car to get you home to...
Got it wrong
Sally's won
Denim suits get it
(That's just what I was told
And I don't care if I was sold)
So you were right
Sally flyed
I don't know what hit
(I accept and can take the blame
Can you fake when the fake is lame)
Got it wrong
Sally's won
Denim suits get it
(That's just what I was told
And I don't care if I was sold)
So you were right
Sally flyed
Goodbye Sally leaving, oh, oh, oh
You live as well as flowers, mm-mm, mm
But too long in the field mm-mm, mm
Poor old Sally died
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, oh, Sally's goin' now, aha
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, oh, Sally's goin', aha
The lone brown wood is burning slow now
And might damned be unlaw you're goin'
The Sally further alley, oh, oh, ah
Is lying in the bay
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, oh, Sally's goin', aha
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, oh, Sally's goin', aha
Oh yeah
Oh, Sally's goin', oh yeah, oh, Sally's goin', aha
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, yeah, oh, Sally's goin', aha, yeah
Oh, go
Yeah, go
Sally's goin', oho, Sally's, aha
Sally's goin', oho, Sally-ally
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, oh, Sally's goin', aha
Oh, Sally's goin' now, aha, oh, Sally's goin', aha
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, oh, Sally's goin', aha
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, oh, Sally's goin', aha
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, oh, Sally's goin', aha
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, oh, Sally's goin', aha
Oh, Sally's goin', aha, oh, Sally's goin', aha
Sally
by Leo Towers/Harry Leon/Will Haines
Sally, Sally, pride of our alley,
You're more than the whole world to me.
Sally, Sally, don't ever wander
Away from the alley and me.
(Spoken)
'Ladies and gentlemen, Reginald Dixon and the Blackpool Tower Orchestra.
Come on Reg! Lovely! Lovely! Lovely!
I love the way this boy plays, I love it!
Marvellous, marvellous, I love it, I love it!'
Oh now when you're away there are grey skies,
And when I'm away there are even more grey skies
Than the grey skies I talked about before.
Sally, Sally, don't ever wander
Away from the alley and me. Oh.
(Spoken)
'Thank you, thank you, thank you so much.
Thank you, thank you so much.
For coming here to Batley tonight.
So lovely!
Thank you so much!'
29 in Highgate, P.R. queen
So socially unattainable
Down the line in Balham Johnny's keen
Pursuing the unobtainable
I said 'Hey, you, up in the clouds
She's spinning you like a circus wheel.'
By moonlight, scheming all his moves
Detectives at her heels
Sally, what's your game?
What are you trying to do?
Sally, I'm miles away
I can't take my eyes off you
Tea with the Princes, dinner with the stars
She's cool amongst High Society
Johnny takes her to a wimpey bar
And acts with perfect sobriety
I said 'Hey, you, up in the clouds
She's spinning you like a circus wheel.'
Call the airforce, call the C.I.A.
She won't escape this time
Taking off for ten weeks on the Nile
The nights will be rich with mystery
Johnny's swimming with the crocodiles
But he's gonna teach her some history
I said 'Hey, you, up in the clouds
She's spinning you like a circus wheel.'
He's in the gym, he's on the driving range
Oh little sally, you know I love you baby.
Sally, I said I love you baby.
Sally ... it's alright, it's alright.
Remember girl when we both was younger.
It was the days we had so much fun girl.
Rememberin' all of our childhood days, yeah.
We had our fun in so many ways.
You know I would have loved you anyway.
It ain't just something I just had to say.
Don't let them tell you that you're not my kind.
Sally, sally, sally tell them you're mine, mine, mine.
Sally ... yeah,
Oh little sally, I said I love you baby.
Sally, I said I love you baby.
Sally ... it's alright.
You know I would have loved you anyway.
It ain't just something I just had to say.
Don't let them tell you that you're not my kind.
Sally, sally, sally tell them you're mine, mine, mine.
Oh little sally, you know I love you baby.
Sally, I love you baby.
Sally ... it's alright, it's alright.
It's alright.
Oh little sally, you know I love you baby.
Sally ...
Sally ... it's alright, it's alright.
It's alright.
I was blue and lonely, I couldn't sleep a wink
And I could only get unconscious if I'd had to much to drink.
There was somehow, something wrong somewhere, and each day seemed grey and dead
The seeds of desperation were growing in my head.
I needed inspiration, a brand new start in life,
Somewhere to place affection, but I didn't want a wife.
And then by lucky chance I saw [in] a special magazine
An ad. that was unusual, the like I'd never seen,
'Experience something different with our new imported toy,
She's loving, warm, inflatible and a guarantee of joy.'
She came all wrapped in cardboard, all pink and shrivelled down
A breath of air was all she needed to make her lose that frown.
I took her to the bedroom and pumped her with some life,
And later in a moment that girl became my wife.
And so I sit her in the corner and sometimes stroke her hair
And when I'm feeling naughty I blow her up with air
She's cuddly and she's bouncy, she's like a rubber ball,
I bounce her in the kitchen and I bounce her in the hall.
[And now my life is different since Sally came my way]
I wake up [in the] morning and have her on a tray
She's everything they say she was and I wear a permanent grin,
And I only have to worry in case my girl wears pins.
Sally was a fifteen year old girl from Nebraska
Gypsies were passing through her little town
They dropped something on the road , she picked it up...
And cultural revolution right away begun!
Oh no, cultural revolution just begun
Oh no, cultural revolution just begun
They always were afraid that I was schizophrenic...
They always were afraid schto ja rodinu prodam
a po pravde ja bil prosto malenkij medvedik
sel na velosipedik i vsjo nahuj proebal...
Oh no, cultural revolution just begun
Oh no, cultural revolution just begun
From all the tables of contents that Mother Earth provides
I'd like to be a big fat fucking fly
The one that spins around your head all day and all night
and sound of it is just like a what?...
...but by the accident of some kind divine dispensation
I ended up being walking United Nation
And I survive even fucking radiation
A big fat fucking what?
Hush now little Sally
Baby
close your eyes
sweet dreams honey
hey don't you worry tonight
He's yearning for the city be gonna for a while
He won't be back until the morning
it's gonna be one of those nights.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Sleep tight little Sally
hey there's a sky full of stars
shining for you
honey
hey one day you'll go that far
Get to thinking
maybe the wounds and the scars
will wear off one day. It's just a matter of time.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
On and on you wonder
if there's someone above
why doesn't he hear me
don't I pray hard enough?
On and on you wonder
if this madness will stop
some ain't got it easy some got it rough.

Hush now little Sally
hey close your angel eyes.
A special lady hey will make the most of her life.
Your skirts may be shabby hey
but girl with one of them smiles
you'll lead an honest man astray
and make him wanny cry.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Watch out little Sally
hey the old man's messin' tonight.
They're yelling down the alley
hey better turn on that porchlight.
Lost all of the money hey down by the quayside
he's gambled all your dreams away
all you've got left is your pride.
On and on you wonder
if there's someone above
why doesn't he hear me
don't I pray hard enough?
On and on you wonder
if this madness will stop
some ain't got it easy some got it rough.

fade out
Sally You opened out your arms
To all those young men
And girl you had room
For every one of them
You're the only girl
on bowery and third
Sure as hell you're the one
who cared
So put your hands together for sally
She saved all those young men
Put your hands together for sally
She's the one who cared for them
She's doing our dirty work
She's the only one who cares
Doing our dirty work
Thirsty world one angry day, in new york
Take a look at dave he was once seventeen
Zoot suit and shinny shoes
He ran around town
and through his methylated laughter
Most of his memories drowned
But he remembers what his mommy use to shout
She used to shout
One day surely son
The streets are gonna tire you out
So put your hands together for sally
She's the one who cared for him
Put your hands together for sally
She was there when his luck was running thin
She's doing our dirty work
She's the only one who cares
Doing our dirty work
Thirsty world, one angry day, in new york
Tommy had a wife and family
But the needle came between the love and the hard times
Thank God for sally
She was there through the misery
Just a place to lay his head
Just about better off than dead
She's doing our dirty work
She's the only one who cares
Doing our dirty work
Thirsty world, one angry dame
Vince came up from the country
Couldn't even find himself a room
Thinking about his babies
That's further away than the moon
With no money but his pride in his pocket
There's really no way he can go home
There's a picture of his woman in his locket
Most of all he doesn't want to be alone
So put your hands together for sally
She's the one who cared for him
Put your hands together for sally
She was there when his luck was running thin
She's doing our dirty work
She's the only one who cares
Doing our dirty work
