Lüderitz is a harbour town in south-west Namibia, lying on one of the least hospitable coasts in Africa. It is a port developed around Robert Harbour and Shark Island.

The town was founded in 1883 when Heinrich Vogelsang purchased Angra Pequena and some of the surrounding land on behalf of Adolf Lüderitz, a Hanseat from Bremen in Germany, from the local Nama chief. Lüderitz began its life as a trading post, with other activities in fishing and guano-harvesting. In 1909, after the discovery of diamonds nearby, Lüderitz enjoyed a sudden surge of prosperity. Today, however, diamonds are mostly found elsewhere and offshore, and Lüderitz has lost a lot of this interest.

The harbour has a very shallow rock bottom, making it unusable for modern ships; this led to Walvis Bay becoming the centre of the Namibian shipping industry. Recently, however, the addition of a new quay has allowed larger fishing vessels the dock at Lüderitz. The town has also re-styled itself in an attempt to lure tourists to the area, which includes a new waterfront area for shops and offices.

Antoine Albeau is a French windsurfer who holds eleven Windsurfing World Championships in different disciplines since 1994.

Born on June 17, 1972 in La Rochelle, France, Albeau set a new all–category world windpowered sailing speed record on March 5, 2008 with 49.09 knots (90.91 km/h or 56.49 mph) on a 500 meter course at Saintes Marie de la Mer, beating the previous record which had been set by Finian Maynard with a speed of 48.70 knots in April 2005 at the same spot.

In October 2008 Antoine Albeau successfully completed a cross channel windsurf from Cherbourg, France to Sandbanks, Poole. A crossing of 75 nautical miles (138 kilometres) taking just over 6 hours. Antoine was accompanied by Guy Cribb, and supported by Dave Hartwell from The Water Sports Academy, Sandbanks in a safety boat which also acted as a media platform.

Zara Davis (born 13 July 1966 in Bristol, England) is an English windsurfer. She holds the World Women’s Nautical Mile speed record for a sailing vessel. The record was achieved in Namibia in 2006 and ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council.

She is also the British Women’s 500m Speed record holder for a sailing vessel and ranked 2nd in the world by the ISWC in 2008.

Started windsurfing when she was 13 taught by her father John and started competing at British national level in 1999 - 2001 winning the British UKWA Women's Slalom Title in 2000.

She turned her focus to speed windsurfing in 2004. Taking the Women's overall title at Weymouth Speed Week, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. She also holds the ladies Portland harbour record at 32.44 knots.

2005 Finished 6th in the world overall on the Speed World Cup Tour and PWA slalom.

Zara is 183 cm (6 ft) tall and weighs 75 kg this is accepted as a great build for a female speed sailor, giving her the strength and leverage to achieve high speeds. In October 2006 she established a new women’s speed world record for sailing vessels over a Nautical mile by averaging 34.7 knots at Walvis Bay Namibia, surpassing the previous speed record set in 2005 at the same spot by French sailor Valerie Ghibaudo by over a knot. She also broke the British record with a new 500m record at 37.24 knots which had stood for over 11 years. All records were acknowledged by the World Sailing Speed Record Council.
