Stirling (Gaelic: Sruighlea pronounced [ˈs̪t̪ruʝlə]) is a city and former ancient burgh in Scotland, and is at the heart of the wider Stirling council area. The city is clustered around a large fortress and medieval old-town beside the River Forth. Historically it was strategically important as the "Gateway to the Highlands", with its position near the boundary between the Scottish Lowlands and Highlands, and its crossing of the Forth, the nearest to the river mouth.
Once the capital of Scotland, Stirling contains the Great Hall (restored 1999) and the Renaissance Palace (restoration completed 2011) within the Castle that rivalled any building in Europe at the time. Stirling also has its medieval parish church, The Church of the Holy Rude, where King James VI was crowned King of Scots on 29 July 1567. The Holy Rude still functions as living church with a service every Sunday.
Stirling is a centre for local government, higher education, retail, and light industry. Its population in 2008 was 33,710, for Stirling itself, the wider urban area including Bridge of Allan and Bannockburn has a population of 45,750. This makes it the smallest city in Scotland: indeed it is smaller than many of Scotland's larger towns.

Starling you were right I am the jealous kind
whoever would have guessed
Starling now I am shut out and confined
even within my nest
what, what does it take to make it through another day?
if a feather lined with his words becomes a blade
Starling when he screams he screams in black and white
just like the magpie
shattered night then I woke
not to a lonely lark but to a raven's cry
if a feather lined with his words becomes a blade
then what, what will it take to make it through another day?
so when they play, play the song
sing along
it could be your turn to shine
if you know the lines
hey what's that you say
"You can find, find him on line
most of the time these days"
"Is that right," I say.
Keep your heart in my safe keeping
Kiss your eyelids while you're sleeping
Promise, that I'll always love you
This is, all about all of you
Lovely darling
Precious starling
Reaching to the stars - I'll steal them all for you
Calling, crawling, spinning, falling
All for you
All about all of you
All about all of you
Warm your skin with sweet embraces
Leave your troubles - only traces
Dreams like raindrops
Across the treetops
All about all of you
Lovely darling
Precious starling
Reaching to the stars - I'll steal them all for you
Calling, crawling, spinning, falling
All for you
Lovely darling
Precious starling
All about all of you
Lovely darling
Precious starling
All about all of you
All about all of you
All about all of you
Reaching to the stars - I'll steal them all for you
Calling, crawling, spinning, falling
All for you
Lovely darling
Precious starling
Reaching to the stars - I'll steal them all for you
Calling, crawling, spinning, falling
All for you
All about all of you
Reaching to the stars - I'll steal them all for you
Calling, crawling, spinning, falling
All for you
All about all of you
Can't find the time to clear my mind from all the stuff that's creeped inside.
Untie the knotts that clutter up the clarity of thought
Don't fight the things that you've been taught all you life.
It's not what it's worth. It's always getting worse.
The sun is out and I'm on the floor and one more step, I'm out the door.
I guess I should have stayed inside and given you the time.
Don't fight the things that you've been taught all your life.
disinfect me from myself
all twisted like my mind
ever been so broken hearted
ever felt you never made a start on this road
when she told you you were beauty
underneath the earth was blowing deeply glowing
a happy smile like a baby grows
all the grass twists round your feet
pulls you deep beneath the ground
oh down we go
like a doomed ship
to all the dreams you got
everybody is like a starling
everybody is like an eagle
sometimes we are deadly vicious
sometimes we are massive giants
Keep your heart in my safe keeping
Kiss your eyelids while you're sleeping
Promise, that I'll always love you
This is, all about all of you
Lovely darling
Precious starling
Reaching to the stars - I'll steal them all for you
Calling, crawling, spinning, falling
All for you
All about all of you
All about all of you
Warm your skin with sweet embraces
Leave your troubles - only traces
Dreams like raindrops
Across the treetops
All about all of you
Lovely darling
Precious starling
Reaching to the stars - I'll steal them all for you
Calling, crawling, spinning, falling
All for you
Lovely darling
Precious starling
All about all of you
Lovely darling
Precious starling
All about all of you
All about all of you
All about all of you
Reaching to the stars - I'll steal them all for you
Calling, crawling, spinning, falling
All for you
Lovely darling
Precious starling
Reaching to the stars - I'll steal them all for you
Calling, crawling, spinning, falling
All for you
All about all of you
Reaching to the stars - I'll steal them all for you

I find myself Standing here again...
And things I thought would be a little changed
but in a world of opposite intentions
who really cares
Over and over and over again
Hands to feed me
Hands to beat me
mild as the rain
rays of hope on an otherwise
dismembered day
The effort now is distant
reborn through another sunny sky
but on the face of things
was it ever worth the time
why am i standing here
I know things will always change
A no win situation
whoever really cares
On a day of infinite flowers and sunshine
will the rust of tomorrow break the strain
i'm still standing here
and nothing has really changed
an outward indication
Starling
Music and Lyrics by Reese Roper from album Anti-Meridian
Filthy bird laying in our yard,
four chamber heart never beat so hard.
Dad said she was almost gone,
upside down out on our lawn.
And I could hold her in a shoe box,
if she heals she could be mine.
And if I cannot save her spirit,
dad says I should break her spine.
Shaking, brilliant, silver-black wings,
Jesus Christ, what prayers these tears sing.
Wear your hearts out on your sleeves for,
starlings... starlings.
Of the least of all of these,
are starlings... starlings.
Two years pass, I pump the chamber,
full of air to shoot the birds.
Harmless game to hit them slightly,
Scare them off, in other words.
Starling falling to her death,
piercing copper steals her breath.
See the flutter in her breast,
starving babies in her nest.
Raise their souls up to the sky,
why must helpless creatures die?
Wear your hearts out on your sleeves for,
starlings... starlings.
Of the least of all of these,
are starlings... starlings.
Every breath has sacred weight,
every life has some design.
Can we kill and also save,
speak life,
