Click here for the full version: http://bit.ly/1uE4KfX On August 11th, Salt Lake City PD officer Bron Cruz shot 20 year old Dillon Taylor to death in front of a 7-Eleven. Officers were responding to a 911 call reporting “gangbangers” flashing a gun. The caller said, ‘They’re obviously looking for trouble. Just the way they look.’ Outside the 7-Eleven, at least two officers including Cruz approached Dillon Taylor, his brother, and his cousin. But Dillon had his back to the officers. When Cruz ordered Taylor to show his hands, Taylor had his earphones in and his hands were in his pants. When he removed his hand, officer Cruz thought he was drawing a gun and shot him. Taylor’s family say he was simply adjusting his waistband or removing his earphones and that Cruz didn’t wait for Taylor to comply before shooting him. Taylor was not armed. In the end, the real culprit was the 911 caller who prejudiced the officers against the young men, causing them to interpret normal clothing and behavior as a threat. A similar event happened in Ohio on August 5th, when police shot to death 22-year-old John Crawford III without warning, all because a 911 caller told police Crawford was about to go on a rampage. In fact, when he was killed, he was in the toy aisle looking at a BB gun which had been sitting unboxed for two days. In the case of both Crawford and Taylor, police blamed the unarmed men for their own deaths. Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill cleared officer Cruz of wrongdoing, putting the onus on Taylor, saying that the 20-year-old should have de-escalated the officer’s reaction, and suggesting he may have wanted to commit suicide by cop.
