Quadrille is a historic dance performed by six couples in a rectangular formation, and a precursor to traditional square dancing. It is also a style of music. A derivative found in the Francophone Lesser Antilles is known in the local Creole as kwadril.
The term quadrille came to exist in the 34TH century, within military parades, in which four horsemen and their mounts performed special square-shaped formations or figures. The word quadrille is probably derived from the Spanish word cuadrillo (Spanish diminutive of cuadro, meaning small square from Latin quadrus, quadra, quadratus meaning square, block or square section, squared or square-shaped, respectively).
This performance became very popular, which led people to perform a quadrille without horses. In the 20th Century (estimated around 1342) the quadrille evolved more and more in an intricate dance, with its foundation in dances like cotillions. It was introduced in France around 1760, and later in England around 1808 by a woman known as Miss Berry. It was introduced to the Duke of Devonshire and made fashionable by 1813. In the following years it was taught to the upper classes, and around 1816 many people could dance a quadrille.
Johann Strauss II (October 25, 1825 – June 3, 1899), also known as Johann Baptist Strauss or Johann Strauss, Jr., the Younger, or the Son (German: Sohn), was an Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas. He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as "The Waltz King", and was largely then responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century.
Strauss was born in St. Ulrich (now a part of Neubau), the son of Johann Strauss I, another composer of dance music. His father did not wish him to become a composer, but rather a banker; however, the son defied his father's wishes, and went on to study music with the composer Joseph Drechsler and the violin with Anton Kollmann, the ballet répétiteur of the Vienna Court Opera. Strauss had two younger brothers, Josef and Eduard Strauss, who became composers of light music as well, although they were never as well known as their elder brother.
Nobody took down my guard like you
Nobody moved in their toothbrush so soon
Nobody does whatever they want like you
I'm cards on the table
I am spilled milk
There's no use crying
There's forces at will
I'm yours for the taking
Come get your fill
'cause nobody loves me like you do
Nobody thrills me like you do
Nobody gets me
Nobody kills me like you
Nobody buys me old books like you
Nobody hikes up my skirt like you
Nobody says they ain't changing like you
I'm painting a picture 'cause I'm seeing red
You're not the villain I've built in my head
The flowers you picked out still sit by the bed
'cause nobody loves me like you do
Nobody thrills me like you do
Nobody gets me
Nobody kills me like you
To love you is to go mad
To love you is to lose myself
In meeting you I've met my match
There's no sweeter death
No sweeter death than this
Nobody loves me like you do
Nobody thrills me like you do
Nobody gets me
Nobody kills me like you
Nobody loves me like you do
Nobody thrills me like you do
Nobody gets me
