Banner Health Overcharges Again
Banner Health Overcharges Again
All information is from public documents and trusted internet sites listed below: Banner Health overcharges? A Valley man and his wife say they were overcharged on their hospital bill and the hospital won't correct it. Thanks to KTVK TV3 and their sponsors for the excellent video and editorial work. Banner's comment: Following a request from the patient, and again following a request from KTVK Channel 3, we reviewed Mr. Farrell's record to determine whether an error had been made. We regret any concerns or misunderstandings, but find that the billing in this case meets with our own policy and the national regulatory guidelines that direct how hospital bills are established. Avoid this situation when you go to a Banner Health hospital. Your hospital bill should not be a surprise. You have the right to know prices before any hospital procedure is preformed. You have the right to see the hospital's chargemaster. A hospital charge description master, also known as a chargemaster or CDM, contains the prices of all services, goods, and procedures for which a separate charge exists. Every hospital maintains one of these lists. It is used to generate a patient's bill. Ask to talk to the hospital's chargemaster coordinator if you have any questions, get the charges in writing before you agree to ANY procedures. Don't let Banner Health do this to you. If they won't disclose charges, LEAVE the hospital. Follow this link for more information on how hospitals use, exploit, and take advantage of their CDM: http://www.medpac.gov/documents/Dec05_Charge_setting.pdf Help bountyhuntress100 keep her award winning site growing. Actual employee comments provide an inside look at jobs & companies. Don't apply for a job without researching your potential employer. Bountyhuntress100 welcomes Banner Health / MD Anderson Cancer Center news articles and public documents. Do you have a Banner Health story that would be of interest? In particular, material that pertains to unusual medical events, employee grievances, wrongful terminations and retaliation, whistle blowing, malpractice, law suits, Medicare billing irregularities, artificially boosting patient Medicare satisfaction surveys, overcharges, excessive salaries, off shore investment information, Medicare fraud, coached customer-facing consulting skills, and other items of interest. Make sure this hospital tells you the truth. Contact Bountyhuntress100 via the YouTube message system with your information or on Twitter and Facebook. Contribute via PayPal. In Peter S. Fines internal message to employees he stated that we need to provide excellent care to our insured patients as we want them to return, how are we suppose to treat those with no insurance, is Banner going to come up with a way to identify them for us, so we can treat patients selectively? Don't ask questions, don't raise concerns about patient safety, don't call in sick, don't use FMLA, don't complain, just work, work, work, with less staff and no support. Uneducated management, favoritism, incompetent management and some incompetents workers. If you stink at what you do, but can play the game, then you are in. Don't ask questions; don't raise concerns about patient safety. We are forced to smile and ride the "Banner Bus". Management is terrible! They tell you that they have an "open door" policy, but when you come to them with problems, it reflects on you. Morale is very low. They want you to shut up and not complain and just be happy you have a job. How sad is it to have to work in this kind of environment! We haven't had a raise in 2-3 years Management is poor, they are inexperienced for the most part. We've had a turn over rate that would shock anyone. We are short staffed and at times, run raggedy. Management has little to no people experience and it shows. Tuition reimbursement has been cut. This is an organization where you are expected to make your boss look good at all costs. Leaders trip over one another because the organization is so top heavy. Worst place I've ever seen in over 40 years of health industry. They publish great sounding mission statements then ignore them. They fire employees key to good patient care and overload others in order to improve profits. Our department is overworked & understaffed. They don't care about patient care, only how they can boost profits to give themselves bonuses. Very disorganized company. Very understaffed. Administration is all about themselves and care less about the patients or employees. Every week there are more rules and more tasks that make my job harder, and lessen the amount of actual 'nursing' that I get to do. I am heartsick about it. RALPH MCCURDY: Yes, I'm comfortable sweetie. HELEN MCCURDY: Okay. HELEN MCCURDY: I like Sun City. It's a nice community. Our grandchildren come over here once a week. We have a couple of good friends that we like very much. RALPH MCCURDY: In our age group, these are the things that are important. When we first met, he was just a friend. Nothing serious. He took me to a football game and gave me my first kiss. RALPH MCCURDY: Don't go overboard, now. Without communication, Ralph and I could have never survived the 64 years. TITLE CARD: The Comfort Of Home: Phoenix, USA DR. EDWARD PERRIN: We know that the top 5% of patients in any system use a lot of resources. Time, money, people, you name it. Philips and Banner are partnering to take care of the sickest of the ambulatory patients. We hope that we will be able to provide the support that they need to allow them to continue to live out their days at home. HELEN MCCURDY: Ralph's not very good at taking his own blood pressure, so I take his blood pressure every morning. But he gets on the scale, weighs himself. And then he goes to his little video. I'll learn to say 'tablet' one of these days. At first we were a little hesitant about all of this equipment, but as it was explained to us by people from Banner iCare and from Philips, we reached a point where we felt comfortable with it. Today I would be lost without it. I'm just happy to be home with Ralph. To be able to talk to a doctor on a video, and we don't have to wait two or three days for a doctor appointment. It's fabulous. If I have an emergency, all I do is push a button and there's somebody at Banner iCare there for me immediately. Dr. Perrin called us today on our tablet. DR. EDWARD PERRIN: How are you? HELEN MCCURDY: Oh, we're doing very well. HELEN MCCURDY: He wanted to know how we felt, and he recommended a couple of things. HELEN MCCURDY: I mean, this is the kind of care that Ralph and I have never had. I mean, it's amazing! DR. EDWARD PERRIN: This is the future. It's really an amazing model of care that doesn't exist anywhere else yet. When I have a team of people augmented by a lot of Philips technology, I can catch things earlier, treat things earlier, and intervene in a way that allows me to accomplish what I set out to do as a geriatrician, and then ultimately to do some good in these patients' lives. HELEN MCCURDY: I'm just thankful that we joined Banner iCare and that we have Philips equipment here. We're married 64 years, I can't say we'll have 64 more years, but... RALPH MCCURDY: We'll try. HELEN MCCURDY: Yeah, we're trying.- published: 16 Jan 2014
