A U.S. state is a federated state of the United States of America that shares sovereignty with the United States federal government. Since the admission of Hawaii as a state in August 1959, there are fifty U.S. states. Because of the shared sovereignty between a U.S. state and the U.S. federal government, an American is a citizen of both the federal entity and of his or her state of domicile. Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia use the official title of Commonwealth rather than State. State citizenship is flexible and no government approval is required to move between states, with the exception of paroled convicts.
The United States Constitution allocates certain powers to the federal government. It also places some limitations on the state governments. State governments are allocated power by the people (of each respective state) through their individual constitutions. By ratifying the United States Constitution, the people transferred certain limited sovereign powers to the federal government from their states. Under the Tenth Amendment, all powers not delegated to the federal government nor prohibited to the states are retained by the states or the people. Historically, the tasks of public safety (in the sense of controlling crime), public education, public health, transportation, and infrastructure have generally been considered primarily state responsibilities, although all of these now have significant federal funding and regulation as well (based largely upon the Commerce Clause, the Taxing and Spending Clause, and the Necessary and Proper Clause of the Constitution).

Jordan Roseman (aka DJ Earworm) is a San Francisco-based mashup artist who has achieved recognition for his technically sophisticated, songwriting oriented music and video mashups. His annual “United State of Pop” mashups, short mixes featuring the top 25 songs of the year according to Billboard magazine, have reached the Top 100 for national radio play.
Roseman was born into a big family of musicians and raised in eastern Iowa and Evanston, Illinois. In his early life, he played piano and produced original electronic music on a computer, later majoring in music theory and computer science at the University of Illinois. He began using ACID recreationally in 2003. After encouragement from DJ Adrian at Club Bootie, Roseman created the moniker DJ Earworm ("earworm" referencing a song that repeats uncontrollably in one's mind) and began releasing mashups via a website.
DJ Earworm has a unique mashup style that consists of a compositional, songwriting approach. He gradually layers samples on top of one another, matching keys and subtly altering melodies. His mashups often convey an entirely new meaning than the original material, such as a political message in “No More Gas”. He has been contrasted with mashup artist Girl Talk, who has a more DJ-oriented style.

ISIS vs Jordan: Islamic State claims U.S. hostage Kayla Mueller killed in Jordanian air strike

Islamic State said on Friday that Kayla Mueller, an American aid worker who had been helping Syrian refugees since 2012, was killed when Jordanian fighter jets bombed a building in Raqqa, Syria.
In retaliation for the execution of a pilot, Jordan dispatched its fighter jets to bomb the Syrian city of Raqqa, an Islamic State stronghold.
Islamic State said Mueller was inside a three-storey building which doubled up as a weapon warehouse during the air strikes.
Mueller accompanied a Syrian man to travel to the city of Aleppo on August 3, 2013. According to the New York Times, the man was asked to repair the Internet connection of a Doctors without Borders facility.
After staying overnight at the facility, the pair wanted to return to Turkey by bus. The organisation helped arrange transport, but the pair did not make it to the bus stop as they were abducted by militants on the road.
Many question the authenticity of Islamic State’s claim that Mueller was killed in the airs strikes. U.S. National Security Adviser Susan Rice said there was no substantial proof supporting the claim.
Mueller had not been identified until Friday as the family believed publicity would further endanger her life.

VICE News and The New York Review of Books have teamed up to create Talking Heads, a series about the big issues of the day as seen by The Review's most renowned contributors.
In this episode of Talking Heads, Mark Danner discusses his New York Review of Books essay, "Iraq: The New War." Danner wrote this essay in mid-2003, outlining how American policy during the Iraq War in many ways effectively helped incite what was then an emerging insurgency.
For starters, the occupation of Iraq post-9/11 created a broad front to which militant jihadists began to flock. The mishandling of the Iraqi army sent thousands of highly-trained, angry men into the streets with no jobs. And photos of Iraqis being tortured by American personnel at the Abu Ghraib prison provided telegenic images that helped these groups recruit from an increasingly indignant public.
Danner's analysis of the insurgency forecasted how it evolved into what we know today as the Islamic State, over a decade before it happened.
VICE News sat down with Danner to discuss how the United States invasion of Iraq and the ensuing war provided what he described as a warm petri dish in which insurgent elements would grow.

As my personal comment, that has nothing to do with the translation or anything, you can notice the difference between Zakharchenko and Plotnitsky here, though both of them sometimes have to do some weird things like signing "ceasefire" agreements in the middle of their offensive to let UAF entrench and regroup (and keep shelling Donetsk and other towns all the time) because *someone* asked them to do it threatening them to block the aid supplies for them.

We begin with growing concerns a young Korean man reported missing in Turkey more than a week ago might have joined Islamic State in Syria.
Authorities in Korea say they have found pictures of Islamic State-related material on the man′s computer.
Nothing has been confirmed yet though,... as Korea and Turkey step up efforts to try and work out where he went. .

Seoul′s foreign ministry says the 18-year-old man, surnamed Kim, was last seen on January 10th after leaving a hotel in Kilis, a town that sits on the Turkey-Syria border.
His disappearance came to light two days later when Kim′s travel companion in his 30s reported him missing to the Korean Embassy in Ankara.
A Turkish daily newspaper reported on Saturday that Kim had crossed the border into Syria to join the Islamic State militant group, after exchanging emails with one of its members.
Authorities in Seoul initially cast doubt on the allegations, saying they had found no evidence he was in contact with IS.
However, new evidence has come to light.
Police in Korea say they found three photos on the teenager′s computer showing IS members holding rifles and the group′s distinctive black flag.
And an employee of the hotel where Kim was staying in Kilis, reportedly said Kim was wearing an Islamic-style headscarf and was carrying a backpack as he left the hotel.
The hotel employee said he thought Kim might have been planning on going to Syria.
Authorities in Korea and Turkey are working in close coordination to try and locate the teenager.
If it′s confirmed, it′d make the first known case of a Korean national joining Islamic State.

At least 200 members of the Yazidi religious community in northern Iraq have been released. They had been held by the Islamic State militant group.
It is not yet clear the reasons behind their release. A reporter at the scene near the city of Kirkuk where they were received by Kurdish officials said most of the Yazidis were elderly, disabled or unwell. Several young children with serious illnesses were among them.
“Some of Islamic State militants treated us well but others did not. Overall the treatment was not good. They took us first to Tel Afar and from there to Mosul where we were held captive. Then we were brought here,” explained an elderly woman among the group.
They were taken from Mosul to a crossing point near the city of Kirkuk. Kurdish Pershmerga forces then took the group to a health centre for treatment. Their destination is the city of Arbil.
Some of those released were suffering from mental and psychological problems according to a leading Yazidi rights activist.
A number of Yazidi villages remain under control of the militants despite Kurdish Pershmerga forces breaking the long siege of Sinjar mountain last month where thousands of Yazidis had been stranded.

ISIS vs Jordan: Islamic State claims U.S. hostage Kayla Mueller killed in Jordanian air strike
Islamic State said on Friday that Kayla Mueller, an American aid worker who had been helping Syrian refugees since 2012, was killed when Jordanian fighter jets bombed a building in Raqqa, Syria. In retaliation for the execution of a pilot, Jordan dispatched its fighter jets to bomb the Syrian city of Raqqa, an Islamic State stronghold. Islamic State said Mueller was inside a three-storey building which doubled up as a weapon warehouse during the air strikes. Mueller accompanied a Syrian man to travel to the city of Aleppo on August 3, 2013. According to the New York Times, the man was asked to repair the Internet connection of a Doctors without Borders facility. After staying overnight at the facility, the pair wanted to return to Turkey by bus. The organisation helped arrange transport, but the pair did not make it to the bus stop as they were abducted by militants on the road. Many question the authenticity of Islamic State’s claim that Mueller was killed in the airs strikes. U.S. National Security Adviser Susan Rice said there was no substantial proof supporting the claim. In fact, we have been researching the Oromo issue along with the other ethnic groups. We are well aware that Oromos are a majority ethnic group within Ethiopian and that they have been prosecuted relentlessly by the current government. The mass incarceration of Oromo students and illegal land appropriations the government has been doing, particularly in 2014, is one aspect we have been researching. The committee for this documentary felt that it was prudent to have enough research and data analysis on the Oromo issue before it was included in the documentary. How The US Created the Islamic State: Talking Heads
Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News VICE News and The New York Review of Books have teamed up to create Talking Heads, a series about the big issues of the day as seen by The Review's most renowned contributors. In this episode of Talking Heads, Mark Danner discusses his New York Review of Books essay, "Iraq: The New War." Danner wrote this essay in mid-2003, outlining how American policy during the Iraq War in many ways effectively helped incite what was then an emerging insurgency. For starters, the occupation of Iraq post-9/11 created a broad front to which militant jihadists began to flock. The mishandling of the Iraqi army sent thousands of highly-trained, angry men into the streets with no jobs. And photos of Iraqis being tortured by American personnel at the Abu Ghraib prison provided telegenic images that helped these groups recruit from an increasingly indignant public. Danner's analysis of the insurgency forecasted how it evolved into what we know today as the Islamic State, over a decade before it happened. VICE News sat down with Danner to discuss how the United States invasion of Iraq and the ensuing war provided what he described as a warm petri dish in which insurgent elements would grow. Title: Islamic State images found on computer of Korean man missing in Turkey We begin with growing concerns a young Korean man reported missing in Turkey more than a week ago might have joined Islamic State in Syria. Authorities in Korea say they have found pictures of Islamic State-related material on the man′s computer. Nothing has been confirmed yet though,... as Korea and Turkey step up efforts to try and work out where he went. . Sohn Jung-in reports. Seoul′s foreign ministry says the 18-year-old man, surnamed Kim, was last seen on January 10th after leaving a hotel in Kilis, a town that sits on the Turkey-Syria border. His disappearance came to light two days later when Kim′s travel companion in his 30s reported him missing to the Korean Embassy in Ankara. A Turkish daily newspaper reported on Saturday that Kim had crossed the border into Syria to join the Islamic State militant group, after exchanging emails with one of its members. Authorities in Seoul initially cast doubt on the allegations, saying they had found no evidence he was in contact with IS. However, new evidence has come to light. Police in Korea say they found three photos on the teenager′s computer showing IS members holding rifles and the group′s distinctive black flag. And an employee of the hotel where Kim was staying in Kilis, reportedly said Kim was wearing an Islamic-style headscarf and was carrying a backpack as he left the hotel. The hotel employee said he thought Kim might have been planning on going to Syria. Authorities in Korea and Turkey are working in close coordination to try and locate the teenager. If it′s confirmed, it′d make the first known case of a Korean national joining Islamic State. Sohn Jung-in, Arirang News. Title: N. At least 200 members of the Yazidi religious community in northern Iraq have been released. They had been held by the Islamic State militant group. It is not yet clear the reasons behind their release. A reporter at the scene near the city of Kirkuk where they were received by Kurdish officials said most of the Yazidis were elderly, disabled or unwell. Several young children with serious illnesses were among them. “Some of Islamic State militants treated us well but others did not. Overall the treatment was not good. They took us first to Tel Afar and from there to Mosul where we were held captive. Then we were brought here,” explained an elderly woman among the group. They were taken from Mosul to a crossing point near the city of Kirkuk. Kurdish Pershmerga forces then took the group to a health centre for treatment. Their destination is the city of Arbil. Some of those released were suffering from mental and psychological problems according to a leading Yazidi rights activist. A number of Yazidi villages remain under control of the militants despite Kurdish Pershmerga forces breaking the long siege of Sinjar mountain last month where thousands of Yazidis had been stranded.- published: 18 Jan 2015
