Samuel Cornelius Phillips (January 5, 1923 – July 30, 2003), better known as Sam Phillips, was an American businessman, record executive, record producer and DJ who played an important role in the emergence of rock and roll as the major form of popular music in the 1950s. He was a producer, label owner, and talent scout throughout the '40s and '50s. He most notably founded Sun Studios and Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee. Through Sun, Phillips discovered such recording talent as Howlin' Wolf, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash. The height of his success culminated in his launching of Elvis Presley's career in 1954. He is also associated with several other noteworthy rhythm and blues and rock and roll stars of the period. Phillips sold Sun in 1969. He was an early investor in the Holiday Inn chain of hotels.
Phillips was the youngest of eight children, born on a farm near Florence, Alabama to poor tenant farmers. As a child he picked cotton in the fields with his parents alongside black laborers. The experience of the workers singing in the fields left a big impression on the young Phillips. Travelling through Memphis with his family in 1939 on the way to see a preacher in Dallas, he slipped off to look at Beale Street, at the time the heart of the city's music scene. "I just fell totally in love," he later recalled.
"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.
The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either openly or via sabotage.
The earliest recorded use[citation needed] of the term "the Man" in the American sense dates back to a letter written by a young Alexander Hamilton in September 1772, when he was 15. In a letter to his father James Hamilton, published in the Royal Dutch-American Gazette, he described the response of the Dutch governor of St. Croix to a hurricane that raked that island on August 31, 1772. "Our General has issued several very salutary and humane regulations and both in his publick and private measures, has shewn himself the Man." [dubious – discuss] In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.

Sam Phillips: Are you wearin' mascara, son?
Elvis Presley: You can move, Baby.::Ann-Margret: You can sing, Baby.
'Colonel' Tom Parker: [to Elvis] You're starting to look like a kettle of crap, son.
Elvis Presley: Listen to this. This is how God works. [reading] I may be expressing myself through these beautiful symphonies of light, color, and language that manifests itself as music. But they will hail you as one of the great ones of the day, and think of you as a wonderful preacher, and teacher.::Red West: Huh?::Elvis Presley: Don't you get it? Ever since Mamma died I've been asking myself these questions. Why'd God take her away from me? Why am I not happy when he gave me all this success and fame? Why, out of all the millions, did he pick me to be Elvis Presley?::Lamar Fike: Don't we make you happy?::Elvis Presley: No, Lamar, you don't. None of this does. Oh, you guys have to read these books.::Gene Smith: Hey, if it ain't got Batman in it, it ain't in my library.::Red West: Or naked women.::Elvis Presley: To hell with the lot of you.
'Colonel' Tom Parker: Let's face it, son. The records aren't doing what they used to and the movie aren't doing much better.::Elvis Presley: That's probably because of all this material you keep shovin' down my throat, Colonel. Hell, you can't polish a turd.
Vernon Presley: Elvis?::Elvis Presley: What? And why are you lookin' at me like that? Do I have a zit or something?::Vernon Presley: It's the pills, E. I'm worried about your health. I just wanna help.::Elvis Presley: [shouting] I don't need no advice from the likes of you! You work for me, that's all.::Vernon Presley: I'm your daddy!::Elvis Presley: And I'm of age, old man! I don't need a daddy any more!
Elvis Presley: [after a song] So, how was it?::Priscilla Presley: I liked it, it was really sweet. I prefer the fast ones, though, like Jailhouse Rock. Why don't you do more of those?::Elvis Presley: [shouting] Dammit, I didn't ask you to tell me how to sing! I just asked if you liked it! I get enough amateur opinions, I don't need one from you! [softly, after a pause] Come here, Sattnin.::Priscilla Presley: No...::Elvis Presley: Come on. I'm sorry, I just finished that session and I'm real proud of it. Better than the hogwash they give me to sing in those movies. [angrily] Stupid movies, stupid songs! But I shouldn't have yelled. I'm sorry.
Elvis Presley: [last Lines] Guess what Steve? I'm touring Vegas.
Plot
KELLY is a beautiful young 16-year old who, like many teenagers, feels her life has become unbearably dark and depressed. Unable to make a meaningful connection with anyone around her, least of all her workaholic mom LAURA LEE, Kelly decides she'd rather be with her dad, who died several years before. The suicide attempt fails, but Laura Lee gets an urgent wake-up call and is determined to give Kelly some desperately needed attention. Hoping a change of scenery will help, mom and daughter rent a house for a long summer vacation. THE BIG HOUSE ON THE HILL offers peace, quiet, and ... mystery. They've barely unpacked their bags when Kelly catches a fleeting glimpse of SEAN, a good-looking young man who vanishes before she can catch up to him. Through several more encounters, Kelly develops a friendship with him, partly because of the physical attraction and partly because he is genuinely interested in her. Kelly seems to be opening up, enjoying her time with Sean and pursuing part-time work at a local children's center. It's not all vacation, though. Part of Kelly's recovery process includes regular sessions with DR. HALSEY, a psychiatrist who believes that Kelly's new "friend" is merely a physical manifestation of her own defenses ... an attempt to transform a scary world into a safe, welcoming place. When asked about Sean, Laura Lee must admit that she's never actually seen the boy. Worried about Kelly's sanity, Halsey recommends that Kelly end the friendship. Sean doesn't like being dismissed, however. He blames Laura Lee and unleashes an angry display of poltergeist activity. No question they've got a ghost on their hands, so Laura Lee turns to another expert for help. Enter psychic WILL FRANKLIN, a true "sensative" who hates his own ability so much that he lives underneath a labyrinth of massive power lines in order to deaden his sensitivity. In his first moments at the house, he meets SUZANNE, another ghost. Even though the others can't see her, Franklin knows she's real. Moreover, he believes that she and Sean are not connected to the house, they're connected to Kelly herself. He begins implementing his own plan to put the spectres to rest. Meanwhile, SUZANNE helps Kelly uncover a mystery at the children's center where she's been working. For some inexplicable reason, she's been fascinated with C.J., a young orphan boy whose mother RENEE died a few months earlier. Unfortunately, the identity of C.J.'s father is a secret Renee took with her to the grave. Through diligent research and a little bit of luck, Kelly locates C.J.'s father SAM and puts him on a path to be united with the son he never knew. Kelly feels good about her accomplishment but learns that the real journey has just begun when WILLIAM, another ghost at the house, forces her to come face to face to face with the most startling ghost of all ... and some spirits don't go easily. With the help of her mom, Dr. Halsey and Franklin, Kelly must solve the mystery surrounding these spirits' connection to her and try to understand what it is they want. There's a disturbing revelation lying in wait, however, just around one of the house's dark corners, and it's a revelation that will end Kelly's life as she knows it.

Lana: No.::Brandon: Why not? You're beautiful.::Lana: Come over here.

My life fell through a hole in my pocket
I lost my solitude, I lost my balance
I lost my reverence and voice
Pieces of soap building up a mountain
Moving seeds of doubt
My life fell through a hole in my pocket
I can't see anything
Only this moment
I hear my heart breaking into faith
Pieces of soap building up a mountain
Moving seeds of doubt
When we open our eyes and dream
We open our eyes
When we open our eyes and dream
We open our eyes
Under normal we change the wind
Facing every direction
Planted in the future, we live two lives
All to reveal a secret we can't hide
When we open our eyes and dream
We open our eyes
When we open our eyes and dream
We open our eyes
We search the sky, planets chasing the stars
Pulling towards deep affection
Weights and numbers measure a wound that won't heal
All to reveal a secret we can't hide
When we open our eyes and dream
We open our eyes
When we open our eyes and dream
Verse 1:
Tears in the city
Nobody's really surprised, you know
My heart's taken a beating,
Existence is bleeding me dry, you know
Chorus:
Way down, in my heart of hearts
Way down, in my soul of souls
Way down, I know that I am a fortunate girl
To have known divine love
Verse 2:
The world is in shambles, I'm just a young girl
But its getting a little bit old to me
I'm already aching, the years have been taking
A little bit of a toll on me
Repeat Chorus
Instrumental
Verse 3:
Two in the morning, the siren is warning
That everything is not quite all right
The city is sleeping and I'm
Down on my knees in the night, tonight
Verse 1:
It's been a while since she's felt
She could look someone in the eye
Quite a while since she's felt
The strength to even try
And all of her sins are piled like a tower of doom
And no one knows she's not what they assume
Chorus:
'Cause she's been hiding in the shadows of a lie
Hiding in the shadows you can die
Verse 2:
So sincere no one could have doubted where she stood
But through the years only her intentions remained good
And like an actress typecast in a picture perfect part
She played a role but it wasn't from the heart
Chorus:
And now she's hiding in the shadows of a lie
Hiding in the shadows you can die
Bridge:
It only gets harder to tell the truth
And one lie is never enough
Verse 3:
It may be hard to admit you've failed Him now and then
But healing comes when His light illuminates your sin
And people might reject you when the truth is hard to bear
But failure is the one thing we all share
Chorus:
So don't go hiding in the shadows of a lie
Consider hiding in the shadows you can die
Oh, hiding in the shadows of a lie
Consider hiding in the shadows you can die
Verse 1:
Gina, broken soul
Hollywood took its toll
Gina, I wanted to
Let you know God cared for you, but...
Chorus:
I never found the time
Never made my mind up to tell you
And now it's way too late
I never should have waited
Oh, Gina
Verse 2:
Gina, they found you dead
You burned to death, the paper said
Gina, the day before you died
You were on my mind, and I don't know why
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
I wish I could bring you back but I can't
I'd give my life for a second chance
'Cause I wanna find the time
Wanna make my mind up to tell them
But for you it's way too late
I never should have waited
Verse 1:
Hot restless night, headed for trouble
You stand alone in the crowd
You know His love but they think you're crazy
But don't be afraid to tell them
They're just dying to know
They're blindly falling in a black hole
And you're just watching them go
Don't let them go
Chorus:
Give 'em all you've got tonight
Give 'em all you've got tonight
They're falling, they're dropping left and right
So give 'em all you've got tonight
Verse 2:
Hang tight, hang tough, don't let them sway you
'Cause you've got the flame of life in your heart
They talk you down but still they'll keep watching
And where you see nothing but blackness
There shines the brightest light
He never said it would be easy
You've got to get up and fight
C'mon tonight
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
No empty words tonight
No legalistic pride
He wants them all to know
He's on their side
Instrumental
Repeat Chorus
Give 'em all you've got tonight
Yeah, Yeah
Give 'em all you've got to, tonight
Give 'em all you've got tonight
Oooh...
Oh, Give 'em all you've got tonight
I, I love you
When you don't
When you don't do anything
When you're useless
I love you more
When you don't do anything
When you don't move, when you don't try
When you don't say anything
When you don't move, when you don't win
When you don't make anything look
I, I love you
When you don't
When you don't do anything
When you don't want, when you don't lie
When you don't make any sense
When you don't go, when you don't hide
When you don't think anything
I, I love you
When you don't
When you don't do anything
When you're useless
I love you more
Hey baby you're a rock man
A powder man, a draw man
A driller
The harder I make it for you
The better you like it
Hey baby you're a draw man
A pipe man, a furnace
A filler
Let's make time escape
Let's excavate the surface
It's too much trouble to impress you
My lies are never big enough
I use the truth to cover up where you're looking
Hey baby you're a rock man
A powder man, a draw man
A driller
The harder I make it for you
The better you like it
Hey baby you're a draw man
A pipe man, a furnace
A filler
Let's make time escape
Let's excavate the surface
You love not knowing what I would do with you
You know exactly what to do
I tried to pull the rope from the sky
It wouldn't come down so I started to climb
I've got great work to do
And I can't come down
I can't come down
For the shame I'm feeling
I can't come down
'Cause I can see from here
I got work to do
And I can't come down
I felt he with the hands can lead ya
And the eyes can't see
See you falling
Hopes are going out of the city lights
I take it apart
To the angels tonight
I've got great work to do
And I can't come down
Verse 1:
Raised with a Bible in your hand
You met your parents' strict demands
But now that sweet religious child
Is like a hurricane gone wild
Chorus:
And you're dancing
Dancing with danger
Lies from a stranger
Waltz inside your head
(Oh) You've got your back to
The One who really loves you
But you can't stop because you
Can't see what's ahead
Verse 2:
No liquor and no cigarettes
Are rules you're learning to forget
But it's not so much the outward part
'Cause God is looking at your heart
Repeat Chorus
Instrumental
Verse 3:
You've danced yourself out on a ledge
Your dreams are falling off the edge
God never wanted it that way
He wants to shake your fears away
We're not lovers, you and I, I can't think of reasons why
I should want you like that, I'm stranded by my passion
Whole idea fits us like a suit gone out of fashion
As I said goodbye and drove away, words I'd like to hear you say
Rolled across my mind like clouds in unexpected flurry
I stumbled on a minefield where desire was still buried
I don't want to fall in love, I don't want to fall in love
I don't want to fall in love with the idea of
I don't want to fall in love, I don't want to fall in love
I don't want to fall in love with love
Sentimental circumstance disguised as fate with wild romance
Fools me into thinking you're the water for my thirst
And knowing what you're feeling for me only makes it worse
I don't want to fall in love, I don't want to fall in love
I don't want to fall in love with the idea of
I don't want to fall in love, I don't want to fall in love
I don't want to fall in love with love
I don't want to fall in love, I don't want to fall in love
I don't want to fall in love with the idea of
I don't want to fall in love, I don't want to fall in love
Waiting for angry words to sear my soul
Knowing I don't deserve another chance
Suddenly the kindest words I've ever heard
Come flooding from God's heart
(Chorus)
It's your kindness that leads us
To repentance Oh Lord
Knowing that You love us
No matter what we do
Makes us want to love You too
(Repeat)
No excuse no one to blame
No way to hide
The eyes of God have found my failures
Found my pain
He understands my weaknesses
And knows my shame
But His heart never leaves me.
(Repeat Chorus)
(Bridge)
If You are for us
Who can be against us
You gave us everything
even Your only Son
(chorus)
You're the same forever
Yesterday or today, You will love me this way
Cuz your heart never changes
(repeat chorus)
Feelings like the desert sands
Shift with the whisper of the wind
Now I feel so close to you
Then I feel so far again
(repeat chorus)
Months of heartache, weeks of joy
Days that are somewhere in between
You're the timeless hope I hold
In a world of fading dreams
(bridge)
And Jesus, Your power
To work in our life remains the same
Cuz You are mighty, You are mighty
Hallelujah, Hallelujah your my Lord
And I know loving You
Is what my heart is for
Hallelujah, Hallelujah your my Lord
And I know every day
I grow to love You more
You are my King
You are my Song
You are my Prize
I love You
I love You Lord
Verse 1:
What's in the Father's mind
Why does He have to go
And if I can't go with Him
There's one thing I must know
Chorus:
Will they love Him,
Will they love Him like I do?
Will they serve Him,
Take care of Him like I do?
I'm afraid to watch Him go
Afraid their hearts aren't true
Oh, will they love Him,
Love Him like I do?
Verse 2:
What can you say when all is lost
When the light of day has gone away?
Well, that's how it feels to watch him go
Down to earth, to a humble birth
And as he goes away, I hear my heart say
Repeat Chorus
Verse 3:
How can we sing when he is gone
We've lost everything when we've lost our king
And why does he go just like a man
Small and weak, humble and meek
And as he goes away, I hear my heart say
I get so tired of myself
Jaded by shame
No wonder people turn away
When I give You such a bad name
But It's so nice to know...
When the world is new
I will be like
Be like You
(Repeat)
This normal life is not enough
There must be much more
This restlessness won't let me go
Until my heart is like Yours
But it's so nice to know...
Silence and rage
The scars of a daughter
He gave me the knife
I held it in deep water
Together we make the perfect question
There's never enough to go around
It's a cup with a hole and the love pours on the ground
Wheel of the broken voice
Talking to you hearing another
Verse 1:
You know wrong can sure look good sometimes
And it's caught my eye just like a jewel that shines
And it calls to me like one of my old friends
But it's trying to tear my heart from Yours in the end
Chorus
But I won't let it, no, I won't let it
Oh, I won't let it come between us
I just won't let it, no, I won't let it
Oh, I won't let it come between us
Because, Lord, Your love's too precious to me now
Verse 2:
A world of pleasure laying at my feet
The wine of recklessness can taste so sweet
Oh, but nothing stirs my soul like knowing You
Yet evil's foot is in the door and it's coming through
Repeat Chorus (twice)
Instrumental
Verse 3:
The rebel in me's hungry to be wild
And I listen to her like a foolish child
Oh, driven by desires in the wind
I find I'm eye to eye with sin once again
Repeat Chorus (twice)
Won't let it...won't let it
And I won't let it come between us
Won't let it...won't let it
No, I won't let it come between us
Lord, You're precious to me now
Won't let it...won't let it
Ooh, I won't let it come between us
Won't let it...won't let it
If I could write I'd set all the words free to follow you
Tell you wonder, tell you secrets and solitude
I've had to let go of so much, it's hard to hold on now
Something far off is pulling me and when I go this time
I don't think I'm coming back
I took your ring that never comes off and put it on
Sorry to lose you, sorry to keep you after you were gone
Nothing is small, nothing is unexpected, I want more
When I go this time, don't think I'm coming back
Desire's the element that I can't fight, dream is the arm of God
Girl's looking for themselves in your eyes, I'm looking for you
What's this supposed to be some kind of perfect, I want more
When I go this time, don't think I'm coming back
Coming back, coming back, coming back
I walked to the edge
Stood over breaking ground to hear your voice
As the earth gives out under
My soul feels like a stone
It feels like a star
(As Rilke might have said)
As I'm falling
I feel your hands holding on to me
As I'm falling
You're holding on
He said, the moon looked
Like the battered face of Jesus on the cross
Then he laid me down
I wrap this longing around me
And wait for some sign of you
Big numbers go by, I close my eyes
I never count a large amount
My lucky number is below one
You never know when you might need a zero
The zero in my hand is nothing to lose
It's hard to confuse power with love
Love with power
I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man,
I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man.
Tell me that you love me baby,
Like no other can.
Love me like no other baby,
Like no other can.
I wanna be your man,
I wanna be your man.
Tell me that you love me baby,
Tell me you understand,
Tell me that you love me baby,
I wanna be your man.
I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man.
I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man.
I wanna be your man.
I wanna be your man.
I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man,
I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man.
Tell me that you love me baby,
Like no other can,
Love me like no other baby,
Like no other can.
I wanna be your man,
I dreamed I stopped dreaming
And singing and I was alone with you
Moving and watching, we fell way beyond words
And a dream under stars
Under standing beneath solid ground
Above all time and light . . .
Technical flash, evacuated bodies, and thrill-gones
Cavities chase us and I pull you down hard and long
And a dream under stars
Under standing beneath solid ground
Above all time and light . . .
Think you've got too much to lose
To feel what you feel for me
What you're afraid you'll lose is already gone
And a dream under stars
Under standing beneath solid ground
Tonight I'll leave you there where I found you
Starting up the hill / an echo standing still
Love has turned on us like the wild
Listen to the scream / of our desperate dream
Did we say forever and what ever did we mean
Now my friend we're out of time
Someone take me out of time
I dreamed of eyes like his open windows
Secrets looking through / dark sky burning blue
But I kept them to myself / quiet pieces
To the urgent voice / violent with choice
Tonight I'll leave you there where I found you
Starting up the hill / an echo standing still
Our shadows cry for us as the dust moves
I left my conscience
Like a crying child
Locked the doors behind me
Put the pain on file
Broken like a window
I see my blindness now
And I need love
Not some sentimental prison
I need God
Not the political church
I need fire
To melt the frozen sea inside me
I need love
Driving into town
Tired and depressed
Like a flare
The streetlight bursts an S.O.S
Peace comes to my rescue
And I don't know what it means
But I need love
Not some sentimental prison
I need God
Not the political church
I need fire
To melt the frozen sea inside me
I need love
Broken like a window
I see my blindness now
And I need love
Not some sentimental prison
I need God
Not the political church
I need fire
To melt the frozen sea inside me
I need love
I need love
Down
I hit the dirt when I see
Who you really are
Down
All my strength leaves me like
A falling star
Cut to the heart I am opened up
Like a wound
Shattered convictions I thought
Were reflecting you
Cut to the heart I am opened up
Like a wound
Shattered convictions I thought
Were reflecting you
Down
Comes my religion like leaves
On winter trees
Down
You come to me with your love
Now that I've worn out, I've worn out the world
I'm on my knees in fascination looking through the night
And the moons never seen me before
But I'm reflecting light
I wrote the pain down, got off and looked up
Looked into your eyes
The lost open windows, all around
My dark heart lit up the skies
And now that I've worn out, I've worn out the world
I'm on my knees in fascination looking through the night
And the moons never seen me before
But I'm reflecting light
Give up the ground under your feet
Hold on to nothing for good
Turn and run at the mean times, chasing you
Stand alone and misunderstood
And now that I've worn out, I've worn out the world
I'm on my knees in fascination looking through the night
And the moons never seen me before
Stolen ring, an old hat, a boot and a shoe,
A satin dress at your feet
Every day trace code named the bullet
Red silk 5
Disconnection and heat, the lines are down
Pulled into a corner with you
Lips and fingers
slow, secret weapons
Red Silk 5
I'm bleeding, didn't notice
Heart doesn't mind
I took your book, I have no words for you
I want to be excited but contact broke the frame
Red Silk 5
Everything I wanted, nothing I needed
There's a pretty thing up on the shelf
You can't reach it by yourself
Close your eyes and let me
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it
When this town is closed up tight
You knock all day and walk all night
You don't have to force it
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it
If it's all up in your head
And never comes to bed
Raise your hands up
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it
When the spirit leaves you lost and weak
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it
Shake it, shake it down
I'll be desperate, I'll be lonely
But I won't be ashamed
No isolation, no terror unnamed
You animated the dead to your dream
Say what you mean
Destiny's still locomotive desire
Magnets set on you and thrown into the fire
If you get branded and caught in between
Say what you mean
You'll despise and protect
You'll fool and you'll grouse
How hungry are you?
How much can you loose?
You know what I would do for you
'Til it gets too late
Just tell me straight
The secrets that you want to know
Are yours not mine
Longing may kill me
I can't keep my mind
On my destructions
My drugs and my dreams
How long have I got
Before common days become legend
How long have I got
'til this dream of life becomes heaven
Oh, life passed too fast
It's hard to know it won't last forever
How long have I got
Before passion gives up it's fire
How long have I got
Before time strangles desire
Oh, my fear is to leave here
Never having really arrived
Who can hear my beating heart
Pounding so, wanting more
Who can hear my beating heart
Pounding on the door
How long have I got
To make mistakes and be wiser
How long have I got
To learn to be less of a liar
Oh, to face my best try I know
I need someone who is higher
How long have I got
To answer a higher calling
How long have I got
To walk the line without falling
Oh, needing meaning, wanting to know
The trees are listening
Each time a missile's made
They hide three mystics
The earth sends from her grave
To tell us the future has been stolen away
By diggers, drillers and sellers
We won't stop till we're underneath the black sky
He took my picture
In the cemetery sun
My body was tempted
To crumble into one
Reunion of dust until creation's done
Returning ashes to ashes
We won't stop till we're underneath the black sky
La, la, la
La, la, la
La, la, la
The commerce the intrigue
Self-slaughtered souls
Cry out to dead poor men
For a drink at the water hole
Their tongues will burn dry
As the day they were sold for forests
Raped into deserts
We won't stop till we're underneath the black sky
La, la, la
La, la, la
La, la, la
Verse 1:
After midnight all is still
And the world sleeps without a sound
Cold just cuts into your soul
And you know death is all around
As we gather on a hill
In the dark someone starts the song
Like an army we move out
To fight the evil and wrong
Chorus:
(And like a) song in the night
We will sing our way through darkness
And we'll be true to the light
And burn the gates of hell
Oh, the song in the night
Will bring life to those who hear it
And Jesus has given us
A song in the night
Verse 2:
There are battles that we've lost
Though we've tried with all our might
But if we weren't such a threat
Then he wouldn't put up such a fight
As our song of triumph sings
It brings fear to Satan's heart
And we lift our shield of faith
To catch his fiery darts
Repeat Chorus
(We'll sing a...)
Instrumental
Repeat Chorus
You smoke-screen with your judgemntal words.
But when the air clears you're just a scared little child.
You smoke-screen, but your fearful inside
That God does'nt love you
You let fear run you wild
(Chorus)
When someone is wrong you write them off
Never give a second chance
What if God had been that strict with you
And destroyed you without a second
You smoke-screen with your angelic face
You look so holy, but you're struggling inside
You smoke-screen when you point the finger
Cuz no one's looking
What was wrong with her?
Why did she pick a winner?
He would leave her every night after dinner
She would undress
Make him nervous
Two men with empty pockets put lipstick on a little girl
And another dream goes by
They make her ride the rockets
That fall into a sea of pearl
And another dream goes by
Power stealing through
Fading out of view
Our cruel inventions
The beat generation all got on the morning train
And another dream goes by
They left me at the station
Breathing dust from hopeless rain
And another dream goes by
Un-invent the wheel of endless greed
Let conscience run like a river like a dreamer
A world of elevators with music like magazines
And another dream goes by
Magnetic separators divided by a wall of screens
When the water's too high
When the water's too high
I will carry you
I will carry you
When the water's too high
When the water's too high
I will carry you
I will carry you
I will carry you
I will carry you
I will carry you
When the water's too high
I will carry you
When the night is too black
When the night is too black
I will carry you
I will carry you
When the water's too high
When the water's too high
I will carry you
I will carry you
I will carry you
I will carry you
When the water's too high
I saw you standing there alone
I wondered if you wanted what you owned
Your magic ladders in the sky
Tie you to the place where angels fight
Our madness envy and desire
Ring you with an unforgiving fire
You love them with a burning soul
By the time he sold the ashes they were cold
Fingers crying for you
Sleeping on your doorstep for the proof
We love ghosts we want to see through
The blood and bones that hide us from the truth
You circle the city from the sky
Watching children swallowing your lies
It breaks you but you will never fall
You lock me up with your expectations
You lock me up with your expectations
Loosen the pressure you choked me with
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
You stripped my heart with your accusations
You shut me into an affectation
Loosen the pressure you choked me with
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
Let me pull down on your high ideals
To sweet earth honest and wide
Tumble with me in an undoubted craze
Don't hold back the tide
You might get caught in sweet captivation
If you let your mind take this aberration
Loosen the pressure you choked me with
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
You lock me up with your accusations
You lock me up with your accusations
You lock me up
You lock me up
If it's action that you need
Original sin
How original can you be?
That's where I come in
I'll take you to a place
I'll show you every room
Don't say a word
Open every book to you
Tricks you've never learned
I'll take you to a place
We'll go where the action is
If you don't know what to do
I'll look it up for you
We can sit or we can stand
I don't mind
I can sit down on your hand, two of a kind
Verse 1:
I wanna know your feelings
Wanna know what makes you cry
Wanna know how I can love you more
But I don't want hurt you
Don't wanna make you angry at me
'Cause your the one that I am living for
Chorus:
So burn your heart in me
In the deepest part of me
Put your heart in me
In the deepest part of me
Verse 2:
I wanna love the lonely
Wanna heal the broken hearted
Wanna make your righteousness my friend
I wanna feed the hungry
And I wanna fight for justice
And Lord, I wanna serve you until the end
Repeat Chorus
Guitar solo
she married a gold mine with a time bomb
he went off to be legend
now her love's a corporation
and she's just post humorous
entertainmen
watch me
let me be your t.v.
he asked her to spread her magazines
all across his floor
he finally found his bathing beauty
and she was a girl worth wading for
my father loved to watch the blondes
burning down our street
so I learned to sing and to dance on water
at my mother's feet
Flame why do I come so close to you
Vain telling me what I shouldn't do
I saw you smoldering before
I let him burn me to the floor - flame
Flame why do you paralyze my soul
Pain if I hold you or let go
There's nothing bluer than your heat
You make the night bleed at your feet - flame
Break my fall into this wild fire of love
Stolen from dreams
Flame why do I dance so close to you
Stained with the longing of a fool
When fires rise the shadows fall
Over the edges where we crawl - flame
I open my eyes to the sound of morning news
And wish for ten more minutes left to sleep
And as I get into the shower the thoughts of
facing one more day
Overwhelm me and I begin to weep
And I've never felt like I've needed Your help,
so bad
Verse 2:
Well, my tears are pushed away now for the
sake of morning rush
'Til the Bible on the table catches my eye
And I read that you are near to the hearts that
break with grief
And I realize that I don't have to try
To live life myself because You're ready to help me live
Bridge 1:
And everyday I look to you
To be the strength of my life
You're the hope I hold onto
Be the strength of my life
Chorus:
Be the strength of my life
Strength of my life
Be the strength of my life today
Be the strength of my life
Strength of my life
Be the strength of my life today
Verse 3:
Each day has its problems, it troubles and its tears
And it seems I'm always anything but strong
When I learn to know my weakness,
I understand your strength
And even when the hard times last so long
I won't try by myself, I'll just ask for Your help
Each day
Bridge 2:
And everyday I look to You
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh
Every time you start to criticize
I can see the misery in your eyes
You say I make your pain
But you're trying to turn the blame all around you, ooh
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you, baby
You take the words I say and make them mean
Everything they don't, baby, you're obscene
You don't listen, you don't hear
You're blinded by the fear that surrounds you, ooh
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you, baby
I know you say love when you mean control
You buy the truth and your heart is cold
So you live in shadows, baby I can't please you
You try to tell the world how it should spin
But you live in terror with the hollow men
Who stun you with their lies
With fever in their eyes as they drown you? Ooh
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
You're a child with endless questions
Tumbling hard and fast from your soul
Searching for the love behind my eyes
You remind me of the One who made you
Splashing in your love for living
Taken with the truth like a bird
takes to the sky.
(Chorus)
The more I know you
The more I want you to know
Your not just a notch in my belt
Hunted by religious ego
A conquest for the narrow minded blind
Your smile is the pulse of my heartbeat
I care what you do with your soul
There's no one like you
You're a rare and precious find
Ever since I became one of yours
I'm a target for the kill
The enemy is on my trail
Wants to own my will
Shots of guilt with every surge
Of enticing attack
Part of me wants to surrender now
But my heart fights back
(Chorus)
Tug of War
Pulling my mind
Back and forth
All the time
In the stillness of my lonely room
I felt the passion of God's heart
Oh, You know I want to do what's right
But I'm so torn apart
She's not with you
Now, you think to much about her picking up new questions
You don't know, what you don't know could you never said?
And the quiet doubts about you will gather in your head
So, tell her what she wants to know, she'll find out anyway
Oh, tell her what she wants to know, she'll find out
Oh, tell her what she wants to know, she'll find out anyway
Tell her, tell her
You can't find it
That's when she's gone looking for you and she leaves you too much room
And this may make you feel ignored, don't let it go
But you won't say you love her, she will see you in yours eyes, she'll know
So, tell her what she wants to know, she'll find out anyway
Oh, tell her what she wants to know, she'll find out
Oh, tell her what she wants to know, she'll find out anyway
The violinist puts his violin away
Forbidden city broken into tonight
I use my blindfold to dry my tears
The stage is empty and tired of light
But when I do the fan dance
I'm all the red in China
I'm dialing life up on my telescope
Fringe and mathematics
Shaking down the curtain
To find the dragon parade
When I do the fan dance
Searchlights answer gunfire
Angels escort falling mercies
Hearts shut off like streetlights
But even in the blackout
I'll find my balcony rose
The violinist puts his violin away
Forbidden city broken into tonight
I use my blindfold to dry the tears
The stage is empty and tired of light
When I do the fan dance
I'm firecracker lightning
I burn with no trace up in the cold sky
I am broken open, waiting for inventions
Of light that see through to love
When I do the fan dance
I'm all the red in China
You write your questions on my skin
I'll be in your dark streets
To keep the lantern burning
I'm wasting my time, wasting my time
I've been wasting my time
I'm wasting my time, wasting my time
I've been wasting my time
My soul's a worn out road
Where you've left a trail of reminders
The sky forgets, turns black with pain
But the rain remembers your face
And the streets know your name
I'm wasting my time, wasting my time
I've been wasting my time
I'm wasting my time, wasting my time
I've been wasting my time
She read his palm, his heart and his head
We're on the same life line
I held one hand behind my back
But the rain remembers your face
And the streets know your name
I'm wasting my time, wasting my time
I've been wasting my time
I'm wasting my time, wasting my time
I've been wasting my time
When I took him like a vow in the dark
The future fell off me
This pain is all I recognize
But the rain remembers your face
And the streets know your name
I'm wasting my time, wasting my time
I've been wasting my time
I'm wasting my time, wasting my time
I've been wasting my time
Wasting my time
I've been wasting my time
You lost me
With your double time edge
By trying to keep us up, asleep
I'm fading thorough, I'm slipping past the screen
Watching out of this world
Watching out of this world
Splendor
Holiness flies
That reveals itself
Converting blind faith into destiny
Watching out of this world
Watching out of this world
Watching out of this world
Watching out of this world
Watching out of this world
Tonight alone I know
In the dark I can see
What light can find under the night
In the shadows and the leaves
Hard lines changing shape
In dreams the world is blue
You fast on not the truth
Logic is improved
Countries of fools
Under the night
The shadows and the leaves
Hard lines changing shape
The world is blue
Under the night
November evening the warmth of families in the air
Dinner's on the table and there's one empty chair
They had a fight this morning
He said he's never coming home
But for her it's almost normal being married all alone
(chorus)
That stoney fear and hate
That words can't articulate
When walls of silence go up
The walls of silence Oh Oh
Our lives come down
She puts on a brave face
But they can see it in her eyes
Caught in the middle
They feel twisted up inside
They never want to come home
It just reminds them of the pain
They hope and pray that their lives
Will never end up the same
Am I your pussycat? I know what's new
It's the oldest hat in the book
We can't get fast enough to go backwards
And take a second look
Animals on wheels faster, faster
Animals on wheels faster, all the time
Some want to leave us and go to another planet
And blow up the earth
They'd still be murderous, lying and they'd want it all
For whatever it's worth
Animals on wheels faster, faster
Animals on wheels faster, all the time
Famous is fast
You don't have to be talented or do good work or be smart
It's perfect for me
But every time I go after it, my ideals run off with my heart
Animals on wheels faster, faster
Animals on wheels faster, all the time
Animals on wheels faster, faster
When I take a picture of the city, it disappears
It's only a photograph, the city is gone
The places I go are never there
The places I go are never there
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be
I can only picture the disappearing world
When you touch me
He brought me the air of Paris in a bottle
The record caught the air of London, nineteen sixty-five
The places I go are never there
The places I go are never there
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be
I can only picture the disappearing world
When you touch me, when you touch me
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh
Every time you start to criticize
I can see the misery in your eyes
You say I make your pain
But you're trying to turn the blame all around you, ooh
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you, baby

Everything they don't, baby, you're obscene
You don't listen, you don't hear
You're blinded by the fear that surrounds you, ooh
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you, baby
I know you say love when you mean control
You buy the truth and your heart is cold
So you live in shadows, baby I can't please you
You try to tell the world how it should spin
But you live in terror with the hollow men

With fever in their eyes as they drown you? Ooh
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Baby, ooh, baby
Baby I can't please you, I can't please you
Tell me, what to do with this beating heart
While I bleed alone tonight?
And it's alright if you don't say a word
Or make it all work right
I can wait, it's enough to know you can hear me now
Oh, I can wait, it's enough to feel so near you now
And when answers don't come easy
I can wait
Mind's eye can only see so far
And reason can only guess
But knowing you see more than what meets the eye
Strange things are happening everyday
I hear the music up above my head
Oh the side of my heart has left me again
I hear music up above
Secrets are written in the sky
It looks like I've lost the love I've never found
Tho the sound of hope has left me again
I hear music up above
Standing in the my broken heart all night long
Dark and silky like a friend where love wore off
Looking for the land that's hidden in the cross
Find it's lost
I know, I love you too much
I'll go on alone, to get through
I hear Rosetta singing in the night
Echoes of light that shine like stars after they're gone
And tonight, she's my guide as I go on alone
The streets are so dark at night
But now they stay dark when it's light
You passed in the night
Under the table
I gave you who I am in secret
Looking for a signal
Underneath my face
Up above my head
Too close to see
Waiting for a sign
Between heart and skin
Through the shoulders
Where the wings might have been
Finding your broken heart
And falling in
Cold blues where love has never been
At the mercy of your interest
Close your eyes I'll shake you slowly
Looking for signal
Underneath my face
Up above my head
Too close to see
Waiting for a sign
Between heart and skin
Through the shoulders
Verse 1:
Always caring for me, always giving
'Til I can't take any more
And you gave me this new life I'm living
The one you thought was worth dying for
I'm wanting you to know I'm grateful to ya
For all the love you've shown
And praises aren't enough to tell
How my love for you has grown
Chorus:
Let me give back to you
Something that is hard to give
Like the desires in my heart
And the way I want to live
Let me give back to you
Something that will cost it all
From the big dreams in my life
Down to the very small
Verse 2:
Never leaving me, Lord, when you could have
After so many failures and doubts
Though you loved me much more than you should have
Even when my faith was worn out
I don't wanna be ungrateful to ya
For all the love you've shown
And that is why I want to serve you, Lord
With all I own
I met you once backstage
at a very tender age
you took me under your wing
and I remember
those seas of screaming hands
were at your own command
so hypnotised when you sing
and there seemed to be a price to pay
getting bigger every day
and you were larger than life
you were graded up to 'hero'
larger than life
and it must be hard to keep living
the things that you say
when they're making you larger than life
I'm learning what it means
to be somebody's dream
when I'm looking for the dream myself
but that's not really me
they're twisting what they see
Its only one hero to Hell
and there seems to be a price to pay
getting higher every day
Larger than life
We're graded up to 'hero'
larger than life
and you know its hard to keep living
the things that we say
when they're making us larger
larger than life
and the higher you're above it all
the easier it is to fall
larger than life
Incinerator, what have you done this time?
I heard the air raid siren go off
To settle attraction, you like to subdivide
Don't you want shelter from your desire? A place to hide
Incinerator, this is not about sex
It's about a personal scent
You like to watch me and I like to disappear
Electrical contact, a broken Tass of the Stratosphere
Incinerator, go on and go right through me
Have your search and tell me what you find
That I'm made of fire and you'll never get to me
I don't have your number, 'cause I can't count to eternity
If I could write I'd set all the words free to follow you
Tell you wonder, tell you secrets and solitude
I've had to let go of so much, it's hard to hold on now
Something far off is pulling me and when I go this time
I don't think I'm coming back
I took your ring that never comes off and put it on
Sorry to lose you, sorry to keep you after you were gone
Nothing is small, nothing is unexpected, I want more
When I go this time, don't think I'm coming back
Desire's the element that I can't fight, dream is the arm of God
Girl's looking for themselves in your eyes, I'm looking for you
What's this supposed to be some kind of perfect, I want more
When I go this time, don't think I'm coming back
Verse 1:
I'm finding that I'm falling
In love with you every day
And I'm finding that I'm finally
Starting to see things your way
It's taken me a long time
To trust you with my heart
But I knew once I did that I'd start
Finding that I'm falling
I'm falling in love with you
Verse 2:
I'm finding that I'm living
Instead of just getting by
And you've given me a purpose
I'm not just waiting to die
It's taken me a long time
To realize you care for me, Lord
Oh, thank you for waiting patiently
And I'm finding that I'm falling
I'm falling in love with you
Bridge:
I can see now who you really are
You're my Lord and
You're the brightest morning star
Ending:
It's taken me a long time
To realize you care for me, Lord
Well, thank you for waiting patiently
And I'm finding that I'm falling
I'm falling in love with you
In love with you
Am I your pussycat? I know what's new

I said I wanted to be alone
I said I wanted to be alone
I said I wanted to be alone
Alone, alone with him
He said he wanted to be alone
He said he wanted to be alone
He said he wanted to be alone
Alone with her
She said she wanted to be alone
She said she wanted to be alone
She said she wanted to be alone
Incinerator, what have you done this time?
I heard the air raid siren go off
To settle attraction, you like to subdivide
Don't you want shelter from your desire? A place to hide
Incinerator, this is not about sex
It's about a personal scent
You like to watch me and I like to disappear
Electrical contact, a broken Tass of the Stratosphere
Incinerator, go on and go right through me
Have your search and tell me what you find
That I'm made of fire and you'll never get to me
I don't have your number, 'cause I can't count to eternity
Incinerator
It wasn't what I had to drink
That kept me up all night
Something you said made me think
I was up all night
I forgot my reservation
There's no room for doubt
I don't know how I got in
But you found me out
Now I can't find the door
Love is what I leave for
I can't find the door
(away from you comrade)
Germany and japan
Make me feel so poor
Like seeing some new movie star
In a dress I wore
You'll notice that I changed the subject
I'm afraid of you
Here must be some back way
Or window I can climb out through
Unlock this dark room
Last time I knocked down the door
I've cornered fear with keys
From whispered core
Now I can't find the door
Love is what I leave for
I was broken when you got me
With holes that would let the light through
Let's smoke in secret, an invisible flow
Faith is running to the sound of water
Blind dancing in the foot lights
Dawn couldn't tell it, "Sparks from a lucky guess"
Camera can't find me
I'm officially astray
When no one's listening I have so much to say
I thought I knew how to quit
No one with memory we're starred duck
Stuck and on the rooftop
It's all from the innocence
Living on a desired revelry
Gravity pulls our lives down
Pulling on our tables, I want to walk the deep
Can't get free from freedom
When I refuse to choose
The walls go with me as I leave my fate to lose
La, la, la
La, la, la
La, la, la
My T.V. doesn't listen when I give it pieces of my mind
It keeps making everything the same size
Pain is pleasure when it's televised
Plastic is forever
Artificial florists sell you flowers that will never die
They cut down the real forests
Look at how they've washed your brain
Down the info TV drain
You're back before you ever came
To find out what you need
You try too hard, you try too soft
You're afraid of getting lost as impostor number one
You left your record out in the sun
All the signs of life aren't clear and straight and always right
Our ideas of perfect are so imperfect
Love doesn't pay attention to
The metal teeth of ugly rules
He was everybody's fool
For squandering his love on her
Thomas when you told the truth
They electrocuted you
I'll pick up my zero and follow through
Dreams that I can't trace
Pull my heart away
From love I long to taste
Why do I run away
When I come face to face
With anything I need
I am so afraid
If I keep hoping
That there will come a day
When my heart is open
That you will walk away
Like you were never there
And I don't know all the truth
From the lying
But I know that I need you
Because I am dying
From being held by hell
In a cell of blinding fear
Libera, libera, libera me
From this dark dream
To the life stream
Libera, libera, libera me
From this bruised soul
Living half-whole
Libera, libera, libera me
I know there is a place
Free from no borders
Before I turn this grace
Into disorder
I've got to find a way
pictures steal our memories
turn our minds to salt
history is written to say it wasn't our fault, wasn't our fault
send us all your love and kisses
come and join the dream that never ends
god will grant us all our wishes
martinis and bikinis for our friends
Love is not lost
Boy, boy meets girl
And you know the rest
Boy loses his girl
In their love's first test
Is this supposed to be a happy ending now?
Is this the way it always goes?
Girl throws in her heart
Like a losing hand
She uses the boys
'Cause she thinks she'll never find her man
Is this supposed to be a happy ending now?
Is this the way it always goes?
Well, I think I want my money back
Because that's not all I know
Love is not lost
It's not a lost cause
I meet you
And you cut my heart
You shake my ideals
Until they fall apart
Have I lost it if I hope for something more
Than feeling fatalistic pain?
And if true love never did exist
How could we know it's name?
Love is not lost
It's not a lost cause
Don't give up now
If I said I believe my eyes
And science can move my soul
If I said I'm not afraid to die
And I don't need you
I'd be lying
If I said the way he looks at me
Doesn't make me want to undress
If I said I could leave you now
And go where I could forget
I'd be lying
I've been lying all my life with silence
And I need to find the words to tell you
If I said I don't want what I don't have
And all the answers are enough
If I said I believe in myself
And that's enough
She can't tell time
She didn't get what she deserved
When faith went blind
She found the truth but lost her nerve
When she won't act her age
The cat circles 'round the cage
Youth shrinks to tired rage
Sleep, I can't sleep
She can speak but she can't tell time
Dream, I can't dream
She can scream but she can't tell time
She can't tell time
Deaf ears won't listening to her
When faith went blind
I can see light through her
When she won't act her age
The cat circles 'round the cage
Youth shrinks to tired rage
Her vigils in the street
Left my youth incomplete
Left meaning obsolete
Sleep, I can't sleep
She can weep but she can't tell time
Dream, I can't dream
She can scream but she can't tell time
Sleep, I can't sleep
I got myself so tightly wound, I couldn't breathe
I could feel the fire burning underneath
I wanted to get lost and love the questions there
Beauty and the truth I could breathe like air
Then I finally found the signposts in a strange land
Logic dances you from here to there not very far
Making sense can't tell you where you are
I wanted to get lost and love the questions there
Beauty and the truth I could breathe like air
Then I finally found the signposts in a strange land
[Instrumental]
Painted smile, but I don't feel the part
In dream I hold your knife over my heart
The edge is higher the closer I get
When I jump you move the net
I keep falling for this slapstick heart
Hanging on your words, I thought I'd known
The rope is cut and I'm falling on my own
The comedy in the tragic disbelief
Of only human
To make you laugh, is there nothing I won't do
Any pain I won't go through
Lost my balance, fell like rain
I half expected you to do the same
But you cried an ocean and broke my fall
Pulling the trigger
A shot would fire then he'd wake
To red lips above him smeared
With scorn and stale restraint
She covered him with pity
Like a snake about to strike
And then pronounced him hopeless
When he wouldn't do as she would like
He's so sorry he can't feel remorse
He tries to keep the helpless ship on course
The blameless sky pales as a storm comes
Taking it by force
He's so sorry
Flashes of justice
After all she'd done for him
For the first time she was quiet
As he touched her moon pale skin
They found him hours later
He was talking to the gun
Saying father please forgive her
There's a river of love that runs through all times
There's a river of grief that floods through our loves
It starts when a heart is broken into
By the thief of belief in anything that's true
But there's a river of love that runs through all time
There's a river of love that runs through all time
There's a river of tears that flows through our eyes
We fight through the night for freedom as it fades
Into a jail where we fail every time we make a break
But there's a river of love that runs through all time
I had to run before I knew how to crawl
The first step was hard but I have had trouble with them all
But now the night grows darker and the day grows dim
'Cause I know I never will see you again and I almost made you happy
There's a river of love that runs through all time
There's a river of fire that burns with no light
The flame is the pain of dreams gone up in smoke
From the lies we deny and breathe until we choke
The camera angles and the name campaigns
The stare cuts and the latest extremes
The way we sell ourselves, the way we spend our greed
How long it takes to hear our dreams?
Circle of change, the world around you
The same changes
Hold on to the voice inside you
The same changes
The borders and the flags, how far our guns can shoot
Fascist slogans and the movie of the week
Popular opinion, cars that drive you mad
What they pay assassins and a lucky streak
Circle of change, the world around you
The same changes
Hold on to the voice inside you
The same changes
Hold on to your voice, hold on to your voice
(Hold on to your voice, hold on to your voice)
(Hold on to your voice, hold on to your voice)
How much time is wasted, how much time is left?
What to censor and what to read?
How hot the sun burns, what does love require?
How we run from the things we need?
Circle of change the world around you
The same changes
Hold on to the voice inside you
The same changes
Circle of change, the world around you
The same changes
Hold on to the voice inside you
The same changes
Circle of change, the world around you
The same changes
Hold on to the voice inside you
The same changes
The same changes
I went to the sun it was too hot
I went to the moon it was too cold
Went to the mountain it was too young
Went to the ocean it was too old
Is it the same rain that falls on a holy man
Is it the same rain that falls on a liar's hand
Is it the same rain that falls on me
I knew a man a refugee survival was his art
All that he held valuable he carried in his heart
Is it the same rain that falls on the mountain's face
Is it the same rain that falls on the prison gate
Is it the same rain that falls on me
All the money in the world all the power it can buy
Will not take your voice away
Cannot own what you hold inside
Is it the same rain that falls on a poor man's room
Is it the same rain that falls on a rich man's tomb
Is it the same rain that falls on me
Is it the same rain that falls on the raging see
Is it the same rain that falls on the hanging tree
We lock the hurricane indoors
Looking for shelter, we deny and ignore
Afraid that our words bring clouds we talk in code
The thunder or cruel perfection covers love
And we're cold
The private storm
And our souls are worn from the tears
The private storm
And it rages on through the years
No warning the ground pulls out from underneath
We tiptoe through air until we see the blood on their teeth
Time doesn't heal, the scars turn into wounds
Building cage I can only study the blame
I can think of a word for myself but no name
Question darts throw me to the dogs of progress
But they run from what really matters
Raised on promises
To the furnace for shade to the dust for a drink
Logic's mad and shame doesn't care what you think
The ocean's dry it's only a phantom that you fathom
But the flood comes from the desert
Raised on promises
Land of the known
Free of the brave
They sell us ourselves
The center has moved and water bleeds from broken faces
I woke up with no place to sleep
Didn't see the trap, fell in deep
You caught me, you were waiting there
I laid down on the table, you pulled up a chair
You're going to help yourself
To me
I give up, you watch my lips
Like a pair of wrists that have never been slit
I give in, you use my need
When your life's about to start, God is watching you
When you have a shattered heart, God is watching you
When you're a slave and when you're freed, God is watching you
When what you call love's really need, God is watching you
God is watching you
God is watching you
When you wake up in the night, God is watching you
When you're dancing in the light, God is watching you
When you don't need to use force, God is watching you
When you don't ever feel remorse, God is watching you
When you're a hero to us all, God is watching you
When you take that fated fall, God is watching you
When you hide your head in the sand, God is watching you
When you find a brand new land, God is watching you
When out of fear, you judge your friend, God is watching you
When you let a stranger in, God is watching you
When you always have to win, God is watching you
When love requires that you give in, God is watching you
When you play the cards you're dealt, God is watching you
When you won't reveal yourself, God is watching you
When you believe enough to die, God is watching you
You face the blue and wish the roof would open up
But arches of commerce have made the sky corrupt
Go down
Break the code of death for profit break the guns
Break the silence of money break the greedy unison
Go down
Maybe someday you'll come back to me
Find the mystical connection find the dreams
Under cynical wreckage find the winding conscious stream
Go down
I'm sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short sighted
Narrow minded hypocrytics
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
I've had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic
Pig headed politicians
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
No short haired, yellow bellied son of tricky dicky
Is gonna Mother Hubbard, soft soap me
With just a pocketful of soap
Money for dope, money for rope
No short haired, yellow bellied son of tricky dicky
Is gonna Mother Hubbard, soft soap me
With just a pocketful of soap
Money for dope, money for rope
I'm sick to death of seeing things
From tight lipped, condescending
Mommies little chauvinists
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth now
I've had enough of watching scenes
Push schizophrenic, ego-centric
Paranoiac, prima donnas
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth now
All I want is the truth
I don't know how to say goodbye to you
I'm not good at things that I don't want to do
Should I pretend that I don't care
That you don't feel what I feel is there
I don't know how to say goodbye
A kiss might insist that we play
The game of lovers
A touch might give away too much
Would my feeling be discovered
Would you be scared if I just stared
And let you look inside me
Or should I smile and walk away
I saw black and you saw red
Crawled to separate corners
The line went dead I closed my heart up tore your love
For me to shreds
Tangled wires / love can't breathe
Pulling tighter to my ruthless need
Don't look down I want you unconsolably
I can't stop crying
Stubborn distance closes in
With your assistance bitterly begin
To build a wall of silence cutting soul in two
Cloudy water in my eyes
I'm ashamed of words with secret knives
In dream I scream but you can't
Hear me calling you
I know that this heartache is
A speck in the sky of love
The first time he saw her was through a telescope
A misfit cactus filled with bottled hope
He answered like a sick man getting out of bed
Suspicion and thirst curiosity and dread
The blindness in control
Freeze the fatal bullet
As we're falling through a hole in time
One night he came home and found the house burning
Through the frozen smoke he saw the earth turning
A curtain of silence fell on deaf ears
A dream from the past was echoing through the years
The blindness in control
Freeze the fatal bullet
If I close my eyes
I'm afraid I won't wake up
If I stop and listen
I'm afraid I'll hear too much
Trying to hold on to the earth
Trying to hold on to the earth
Trying to hold on to the earth, earth
I've got a long black Cadillac
Marble hot tub in the back
Champagne waterfall
Solid gold question mark twenty feet tall
Solid gold question mark twenty feet tall
Trying to hold on to the earth
Trying to hold on to the earth
Holding on for what it's worth, worth
Try to paint a world of shapes
Over the holes as we're falling
The tightened grip is our mistake
As we're trying to hold on, hold on, hold on
Trying to hold on, hold on to the earth
Looking for his name
Wet on brave lips carved on road
Look for flame and mercy
Hope that tired hands can hold
Trying to hold on to the earth
Trying to hold on to the earth
Holding on for what it's worth, worth
Trying to hold on to the earth, earth
When I cry He hears my voice
Evening, morning and noon
(Repeat)
(Chorus)
Cast you cares on the Lord
And He will sustain you
He will never let the righteous fall
He will never let the righteous fall
As for me I'll trust in Him
Evening, morning, and noon
(Repeat)
Flame why do I come so close to you
Vain telling me what I shouldn't do
I saw you smoldering before
I let him burn me to the floor - flame
Flame why do you paralyze my soul
Pain if I hold you or let go
There's nothing bluer than your heat
You make the night bleed at your feet - flame
Break my fall into this wild fire of love
Stolen from dreams
Flame why do I dance so close to you
Stained with the longing of a fool
When fires rise the shadows fall
He wants to keep in contract
He wants to buy the things he doesn't understand
He wants all the credit
He wants the rights to the soul of every man
Well I'm not above him but I want to go
Down below the surface where he lives
Fighting with fire, fighting with fire, fighting with fire
Money's the only thing he has, money's the only thing he has
He wants to get down to business
It's a long way down but he'll go the extra mile
I wonder when all this started
Who left him empty hearted when he was a child
Well I'm not above him but I want to go
Down below the surface where he lives
Fighting with fire, fighting with fire, fighting with fire
Money's the only thing he has, money's the only thing he has
Verse 1:
I don't want to love you
At least not the way you're thinking
I don't want to climb the stairs up to your room
'Cause up there in the darkness
The love that we'd reach for
Would disappear at dawn with the fading moon
Chorus:
And in the light of love
You'll see how long it takes for love to be
In the light of love
I'll wait to have you and you'll wait to have me
Verse 2:
I have lonely sunsets
Where my heart sinks into dusk
And I want someone to hold me through the night
I know that you are willing
But if it's not forever
I just can't walk away from what is right
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
And He makes it shine down from above
For man and wife to share His love
Outside the domain
Of your effective powers
I have a little plastic life
It was a souvenir
From a place I'd never been
On a trip that I've never taken
I kept it to remind me
[Chorus:]
I detected fire in myself
Before the flame
Burn it all to the ground
Burn it all to the ground
Burn it all
Whenever it produced fire
Then the sex electric
I've lost my power of explanation
Perfect was a nice disguise
It never fit
But I still have my
Little plastic life to remind me
[Chorus:]
Burn it all to the ground
Burn it all to the ground
Pictures steal our memories
And turn our minds to salt
History is written to say
It wasn't our fault, wasn't our fault
Send us all your love and kisses
Come and join the dream that never ends
God will grant us all our wishes
We can't fix what's broken
So let's leave it here and walk on
I'll be right behind you
Love changes everything
I'm not sorry we loved
But I hope I didn't keep you too long
We're not experts
We are believers, ministers of silence
Let no man pull us under doubt
I'll always open my hands to you
Going down this [Incomprehensible]
There is no end to the good
Love is everywhere I go
Looking through you
Love is everywhere I go
Looking through you
Love is everywhere I go
Looking through you
Burning light inside my dreams
I wake up in the dark
The light is outside my door
Love is everywhere I go
Looking through you
Love is everywhere I go
Looking through you
Love is everywhere I go
Looking through you
Chasing every fragment I see
Looking through you
Love is looking for me
Breaking open the clouds
I'm not stranded in time
(Love is everywhere I go)
Looking through you
Love is everywhere I go
Looking through you
Love is everywhere I go
We had the concoction
No knows
Never found a formula
To its exposed
Combining the combustible
My, my, my, my
My career in chemistry
I'd rather be alone
Than with someone that doesn't know
Secrets a little bit of code
Experts demanded amateurs
My, my, my, my
My career in chemistry
You're the chemical that never did work out
I still wear you
Ba, ba, ba, ba
My, my, my, my
My career in chemistry
Rational explanations for stealing the show
Miscalculating what I didn't know
There were signs of a struggle
My, my, my, my
My career in chemistry
You're the chemical that never did work out
Some experiment
I thought if he understood
He wouldn't treat me this way
No explanations, no more explanations
She looked me over and over
And couldn't locate me
No explanations, no more explanations
I found some miracle like
Running away from you
No more explanations
This is bigger than you
And a part of the truth
You trust
This is the breaking of you
Running out of here
Time you're saving
No explanation
There's only so much pain
They can (?)
No explanations, no more explanations
This is bigger than you
And a part of the truth
You trust
Help is coming, help is coming
One day late, one day late
After you?ve given up and all is gone
Help is coming one day late
Help is coming, help is coming
One day late, one day late
After you?ve given up and all is gone
Help is coming one day late
Try to understand you try to fix your broken hands
But remember that there always has been good
Like stars you don?t see in the day sky
Wait till night
For help is coming, help is coming
One day late, one day late
After you?ve given up and all is gone
Help is coming one day late
Life has kept me down
I?ve been growing on the ground
Now I?m coming up and when time opens the earth
You?ll see love has been moving all around us, making waves
So help is coming, help is coming
One day late, one day late
After you?ve given up and all is gone
Help is coming one day late
Help is coming one day
Hiding in mirrors, invisible stage
My life went on without me
'Til pain brought the house down
Now that it's broken let's open the world
Outside a corner's falling into life-away
Every time you look at me you're in disguise
Too many endings and the pain
Has drawn a stranger in your eyes
Now that it's broken let's open the world
The sky inside is bigger for our hearts to hold
Upside down and beyond repair
The light is coming through
You caught me wanting and the shame in my eyes
So inductive that it made the time still
Pulling down my need
Put something in my drink that made me want to say yes
Verse 1:
Well, I walk inside just to fix my hair
And the girls at the mirror all start to stare
Then they look back at their reflection
And we all compare
And it's powder room politics
Oh, oh, oh, powder room politics
Yeah, powder room politics
Verse 2:
While I wish I could wear this one girl's size
Another girl was wishing that she had my eyes
And we were all feeling worthless 'til I realized
It's just powder room politics
Oh, oh, oh, powder room politics
Yeah, powder room politics
Bridge:
Oh, well, we feel like we're not worth much in any scene
If we don't look like the girls in magazines
And we're all being robbed of our self-esteem
Tag:
Oh, oh, oh, powder room politics
Yeah, powder room politics
Verse 3:
Well, I told that girl that she had nice eyes
And then I stopped worrying about my size
And as I left I was glad to leave the lies
Of powder room politics
Oh, oh, oh, powder room politics
No distinction, no emotion for right or wrong
They tell me any choice will do
No color contrast in their dull morality
The shades of good and bad are through
Situational lies, situational hate
Situational adultery
They mix the black and white so casually
Their ethics sem so vague to me
(Chorus)
And I'm black and white in a grey world
Black and white in a grey world
Black and white in a grey world
It's not so easy finding answers in the shade
It takes some patience, takes some grit
But it's better than throwing all you colors
in the street.
What's life without color in it.
(Bridge)
Ooh, I feel so out of place
Like I've landed on the moon
You can see it in my face
I don't mind being different
Cuz I'm different for the truth
(Repeat 1st Verse)
Verse 1:
What do you see when they finally turn out the light
What do you hear when the music is stopped for the night
Is there an answer
Or just a dancer leaving an empty stage
Chorus:
Did it take you, did it get you beyond Saturday night
Did it take you, did it get you beyond Saturday night
Verse 2:
What can you try when you think that you've tried it all
And where do you lean when you think you're about to fall
Oh, will it sustain you
Or will it chain you to a revolving wheel
Chorus:
Can it take you, can it get you beyond Saturday night
Can it take you, can it get you beyond Saturday night
Verse 3:
Can you believe that the longing you felt inside
Could find its rest in a man who was crucified
Oh, He won't deceive you
And He'll never leave you even when life is through
Chorus:
He can take you, He can get you beyond Saturday night
Oh, He can take you, He can get you beyond Saturday night
Oh, let Him take you, let Him get you beyond Saturday night
Chorus:
Not by might, not by power
But by my Spirit says the Lord
Not by might, not by power
But by my Spirit says the Lord
Verse 1:
Sometimes fears can hide your vision
The loss of purpose chains you down
You think I've forgotten all you're dreaming of
But how could I forget the one I love
And it's...
Repeat Chorus
Verse 2:
I can see your heart is tired
And your courage has worn thin
You wonder how long you will have to hang on
But when My love comes in, you'll be strong again
And it's...
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
These mountains will be removed
I'll build my temple in you
And what I've promised shall be done
Instrumental
Repeat Bridge
Verse 1:
I've been in the basement
Groping for a light
But it just goes to show me
I walk by faith and not by sight
But now I feel the walls are closing in
The dark is blacker than it's ever been, Lord
Chorus:
You've got to bring me through
'Cause there's nothing more I can do
You've got to bring me through
I leaving it up to you
Bring me through, I've done all I can do
You've got to bring me through
I need you...to bring me through
I need you...to bring me through
Verse 2:
Yeah, deep inside I'm bleeding
Will nothing ease the pain
Aching memories beating like
A cold pulsating rain
The more I try to fight the more I fail
Condemnation's got me by the tail, Lord
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
I need your power, Lord, to quicken my soul
To come break the evil that's taken hold
Shotgun alleys with lightning flowers
Under the eyes of fallen statues
Dry blood they've never seen
Pain is sharper when I suspect
The true love runs looking for us
Like a lion in our dreams
Strawberry Road where the dream fades
Is down between our longing and desire
Strawberry Road where our hearts break into love
You censor longing
And organize beauty because you're afraid
You want it more than oxygen or light
You can't get there
With your morals or without love
Lie down with me, the rules aren't always right
Strawberry Road where the dream fades
Is down between our longing and desire
Strawberry Road where our hearts break into love
Call it romance or nostalgia
They hounder behind our memories
We've buried it in code
The things we've wanted
When we get them are never enough
Never what they seem but they lead us to the road
Strawberry Road where the dream fades
Is down between our longing and desire
In the middle of the night I'm growing secrets
Holding the choice in my hand
My beating heart
Some see an end I see a way out
Starting with ashes I'm building fire
We're danced a long time
We've danced too long
Out on the floor I'm thinking
I'm standing still
I want them to think I'm dead
Turn off the noises that drug my brain
And make me buy
Fashion is out of fashion
Broken t.v. listens to the wind
We're danced a long time
We've danced too long
Out on the floor I'm thinking
I'm standing still
When I turn to look they're making sex
Carry obsession to market
I'm so confused
I'm burning in the shadows
You're the only fire made to match
We're danced a long time
We've danced too long
Out on the floor I'm thinking
Everything used to make me smile
Everything used to make me smile
And then you went away
And did you ever love me
Did you ever love me
La, la, la la, lah
Born from desire
Not from need
Pulled back the veil
And disappeared
Measure time in miles
And days in the
And love this life
Till the lonely water fills your room
And the soul won't float with hers
But before you go down
You write another song
Da, da, da, da, da, dah
Da, da, da, da
Did you ever love me
I heard you were hear
then you
disappeared
last night,
when you killed the light
Words we didn't say
your eyes they took us
down to want
and we were ready for it
Came out behind me
grabbed my wrists
in the dark
an' he said
don't look at what
you can't see
Now all night
all night
I've been looking for you
all night
All night
all night
I've been looking for you
all night
Doesn't matter what I
tell myself
the flame is small,
but it burns it all
Sleepless questions
and some sly suggestions
that I could fly
if I could only fall
I've been wanting to touch you
since we met
you don't give a girl
a chance to forget
And all night
all night
I've been looking for you
all night
All night
all night
I've been looking for you
all night
Long straight lines
and lovely wines
out in the night
where you took the light
You're all around
but I haven't found you
you're comin' in
right through my skin
Oh! Come right
what do you need
where will all this trouble lead
All night
all night
I've been looking for you
all night
All night
all night
I've been looking for you
all night
All night
all night
I've been looking for you
all night
All night
all night
I've been looking for you
I can't hide the truth from you
In a closet of some kindness
Time will sharpen it's blade
And it will cut you when you find it
I wish that I could lie to you baby
I've got what you don't want to hear
How do I tell you
I tried to hold my soul back
But it's tide is so much stronger
Than the drifting feelings
We want to hold a little longer
I wish that I could lie to you baby
For far too long your lies protected you
Now I have to hurt you with the truth
We will find love someday
But the longer we hold on now
What do I do when I want to
Be as close as I can get to you
I feel like a cruel girl saying both yes and no
I want you to want me
I need to trust you though
What do I do when I fall through
Fears so long and dark that I lose you
I feel like a lost girl
Letting my torn heart show
If you're so far away boy
How will you ever know
I feel like a small girl
Falling beneath your form
Black niagara
Of control spilling down to culture mock
You can tell me
Feet will land on the ground, safe, and walk
Tripping over gravity
Missing logic
Tripping over gravity
Hicks on fire
Commuter virus has killed the balance ball
Stained with heaven
Always washing our legs won't move at all
Tripping over gravity
Missing logic
Tripping over gravity
Free thought pirates
Neon fights flashing rights on concrete lace
Sleepless tired
Walls of print chatting cage on jokers face
Tripping over gravity
Missing logic
The turning from light to shadows
From burning to indifference
The turning of heart to granite
Of steel hopes to molten fear
And when it turns on me
Don't let it turn on me
The turning of admiration to obsession
Of caring to control
The turning of shouts to whispers
In a white room, in a white head
In a cobweb of enterprise
Where the dreams sleep and fears keep
That's where the colors don't go
That's where the colors don't show
In one take, no give
Half live, half ignore
An endless chase in a small place
One world, one white flag
One shopping bag and restaurant
No surprise there
Only lies there
I want your eyes to color my world
Lucky, you were weak
Giving in was your escape
We only had one chance to say no
But it's too late
Take me out the back alley
Blind and struck by a star
We've lost where we are
Between us there's no near or far
Where are you taking me
As you slide
Where are you taking me
Down inside
I've always wanted more
Like the whore who poured perfume on his feet
Diamonds in the street are just like glass
When they cut your feet
Where are you taking me
Where love escapes your movie screen
The same scene you always run with
We don't want lives of steel
We don't want hearts that feel
We want to live above it all
I feel you closing in a target on my skin
I think you'll be there when I fall
When I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall, when I fall
We might get out of time
We might connect our mind
We might land beyond the wall when I fall
When I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall
I might give love to you
I might step right on through
Fear might keep me from it all
I climb so high to see you
But the ground just teases me
I think you'll be there when I fall
When I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall, when I fall
I'm burning when I fall, I fall
When I fall I'm amazed by it all
Control is letting go
And I'm the last to know
We might land beyond the wall
I might give love to you
I might step right on through
I think you'll be there when I fall
When I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall
When I fall, when I fall, when I fall
silence and rage
the scars of a daughter
he gave me the knife
i held it in deep water
together we make the perfect question
there's never enough to go around
it's a cup with a hole and the love pours on the ground
wheel of the broken voice
talking to you hearing another
past covers truth and watches it smother
