The storm made landfall as a fearsome Category 5 cyclone but has since weakened to a Category 1 storm over land. Damage has been reported in the hardest hit areas, including Rockhampton, Gladstone and Yeppoon. Thousands lost power due to the high winds, prompting many residents to leave their homes. My home town of Rockhampton got hit by a Tropical Cyclone called Marcia over the weekend and it's been a disaster zone for about a week now. I am uploading my footage of this Cyclone for others in my town to view or for others who are interested. I hope you enjoy it as it's about 20mins worth of a watch. My first Cyclone and hopefully my last. Don't want to go through the fallout after it hits again. No power, fuel, food, electricity for days in stinking heat and sleepless nights.

Pacific Ocean typhoons are often stronger than Atlantic hurricanes because they form over a larger ocean, which gives them more room to grow before they hit land. SLOSH = Sea Land and Overland Surges from Hurricanes The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, is built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. Its reinforced concrete walls are ten inches thick, and its backup power system can keep the Center running for 10 days. At 2:30am Hawaiʻi standard time, Iselle made landfall near the town of Pāhala on the Kaʻū coastline of Hawaiʻi Island (A.K.A. It was the 1st time Hawaiʻi had received a direct hit from a tropical cyclone of tropical storm strength or stronger (39mph+) since Hurricane ʻIniki back in 1992. ʻIniki made landfall on the Island of Kauaʻi on September the 11th, 1992 at around 3:30pm as a Category 4 Hurricane; with maximum sustained winds around 140 mph! In all, ʻIniki caused 6 deaths and $1.8 billion (1992 USD) in damages, mostly on the Island of Kauaʻi. Iselle on the other hand killed 1 person on Kauaʻi due to flooding and caused $66 million (2014 USD) in damages, mostly due to crop damages on the Island of Hawaiʻi. Then T.S. Iselle also became the strongest tropical cyclone to ever impact the Island of Hawaiʻi (A.K.A. The Big Island) in recorded history (direct hits in Hawaiʻi are not common). This is a radar loop taken at the time of landfall. If you watch closely, you can see what would be the "eye" of the storm making landfall at 2:30am HST, not to far from the volcano of Kīlauea in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes N.P.
