The City of Miramar's Parks and Recreation department will present as part of its Culture in the Night Concert Series, the 2014 Latin Music Festival in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 6pm-10pm at the Miramar Regional Park located at 16801 Miramar Parkway.
Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne will host and welcome featured Dominican salsa artist, Jose Alberto "El Canario", Tito Puente, Jr., son of legendary Latin recording artist Tito Puente, Sr., and Billboard Latin Tropical Airplay chart topper Grupo Rush.
In conjunction with National Hispanic Heritage Month the City of Miramar recognizes the contributions and important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States. Rich in cultural diversity, Miramar celebrates the Hispanic and Latino heritage and culture.
"Miramar's investment in Arts and Culture is a worthy investment that helps to promote tolerance and cultural awareness in our diverse city", states Vice Mayor Colbourne.
This year's corporate sponsors include Baptist Health South Florida, Miramar Park of Commerce, Waste Management, Waste Pro, Juana's Latin Sports Bar & Grill, Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza Cole & Boniske, Miami Jewish Health Systems and Progressive Waste Solutions and Brown Mackie College.
This is a FREE community event so bring your families, lawn chairs and blankets for a night of music, art and culture. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Jose Alberto
Better known by his stage name José Alberto "El Canario" is a Dominican salsa singer. José Alberto moved to Puerto Rico with his family at the age of 7, and inspired by Latin music went on to polish his singing at Las Antillas Military Academy. He relocated to New York in the early 1970s and sang with several orchestras. He received international attention as the bandleader of Tipica 73in October 1977. José Alberto started his own band in 1983, and became a major Latin star after the release of his 1984 debut Noches Calientes . His 1991 album Dance With Me, which established a new style of salsa called salsa romántica. He has sung hit songs such as "Sueño Contigo" His voice was widely adored by his fans, and his exceptional whistling abilities (being able to improvise as if he was playing a traverse flute) led them to give him the nickname El Canario (The Canary).
Tito Puente Jr.
Tito carries his father with him - imprinted on his physical being and locked in his soul. He has found captive audiences who echo his passion. Crowds lured to a venue by the father are returning to see the son -- and to once again participate in the high voltage celebration that takes place on stage. Tito Puente, Jr. has become an audience favorite in casinos, performing arts centers, symphony halls and jazz festivals worldwide, performing more than 300 shows over the past 5 years. His 2004 album, "In My Father's Shoes" featured the classic Puente titles and was spun into a BET Jazz television special of the same name. He was seen in a tribute to his father's music on NBC's two hour special--"The Apollo at 70: A Hot Night in Harlem." He has also appeared on the ABC soap opera hit "One Life to Live" in performance with his big band.
Grupo Rush
Grupo Rush are a Dominican bachata group that debuted in 2009 with the tropical hit "Jasmine." Comprised of Damian and Khriz, all of whom are of Dominican heritage, the group made its album debut with We on Fire (2009) on J&N; Records. The lead single "Jasmine," of which there is both a Spanish and English version, was a Top Ten hit on the Billboard Latin Tropical Airplay chart. "Mamita" was released as the follow-up single.
