Urban renewal is a program of land redevelopment in areas of moderate to high density urban land use. Renewal has had both successes and failures. Its modern incarnation began in the late 19th century in developed nations and experienced an intense phase in the late 1940s – under the rubric of reconstruction. The process has had a major impact on many urban landscapes, and has played an important role in the history and demographics of cities around the world.
Urban renewal may involve relocation of businesses, the demolition of structures, the relocation of people, and the use of eminent domain (government purchase of property for public purpose) as a legal instrument to take private property for city-initiated development projects.
In some cases, renewal may result in urban sprawl and less congestion when areas of cities receive freeways and expressways.
Urban renewal has been seen by proponents as an economic engine and a reform mechanism, and by critics as a mechanism for control. It may enhance existing communities, and in some cases result in the demolition of neighborhoods.
Dayne Walling is the mayor of Flint, Michigan.
Walling was born and raised in Flint.
Walling was a founder and president of the Flint Club.
In 2007, Walling ran against Don Williamson in the mayoral race losing to Williamson. On August 4, 2009, Walling won the special general mayoral election over Genesee County Commissioner Brenda Clack.
In his bid to be re-elected, Walling came in first the nonpartisan general primary on August 2, 2011 with Darryl Buchanan taking second to face off with him in the general election in November. On November 8, 2011, Walling defeated Buchanan 8,819 votes (56%) to 6,868 votes (44%). That same day, the Michigan State review panel declared the City of Flint to be in state of a "local government financial emergency". His authority as Flint Mayor was superseded by the appointment by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder of Michael Brown as the city's Emergency Manager on November 29 effective December 1st.
Justin Randall Timberlake (born January 31, 1981) is an American singer, actor, and businessman. He achieved early fame when he appeared as a contestant on Star Search, and went on to star in the Disney Channel television series The New Mickey Mouse Club, where he met future bandmate JC Chasez. Timberlake became famous in the late 1990s as the lead singer and youngest member of the boy band 'N Sync, whose launch was financed by Lou Pearlman.
In 2002, he released his debut solo album, Justified, which sold more than seven million copies worldwide. The album was a commercial success, spawning the hits "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body". Timberlake continued his success with his second solo album, FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006), debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and produced the US number-one hit singles "SexyBack", "My Love", and "What Goes Around... Comes Around".
Timberlake has won six Grammy Awards and four Emmy Awards. His first two albums made him one of the most commercially successful singers in the world, each selling in excess of 7 million copies. He also has an acting career, having starred in films such as The Social Network, Bad Teacher and Friends with Benefits. His other ventures include record label Tennman Records, fashion label William Rast, and the restaurants Destino and Southern Hospitality.
It was 30 degrees in a broken home
lights dimmed low looking out the window
I couldn't feel my fingers and I couldn't feel my toes and
the voice inside my head was screaming
(I shouldn't be alone)
The wind singing in the streets a solemn tune for me and you but on the
other side its nicer with the fires burning through
I never recovered from the
sound the bells ring so
I slipped out the door to take a walk and I sing
Ooh woah oh oh
Woah oh oh oh
I took off my cap as I
walked through the door
hung up my coat and took a seat on the floor
The old man looked me in the eyes and then I knew that
anything was possible and that his words were true
"Son you've got a roof over your head and heres some food
I got no trouble with you staying here as long as you will
tend to my son while I'm out in the shed
take a left at the stairs and you will find your bed."
I woke up next morning to the sound of a drum beating
steady in my head keeping tempo with my thumb
I sat up on the edge and then I walked into the room where
the old man stood holding a shovel and broom we were
walking out back I knew what I had to do and there was
no turning back this job he couldn't do so
I tightened my grip and I dug up a hole there
I buried the pieces what was left of my soul
Ooh woah oh oh
Woah oh oh oh
It was 30 degrees in a broken home
lights dimmed low looking out the window
I couldn't feel my fingers and I couldn't feel my toes and
Why do I feel like there is now tomorrow, baby
Sometimes I think that we're destined for sorrow
But maybe we might make it
With a just one more day
I'm, I'm just trying to tell you, baby
I'm willin' to learn
How to love you, baby
How can I explain the way I feel about you
There must be some kindly way
To prove I don't doubt you
It's all in how you take it
But girl, I know, I know we can make it
I'm, I'm just trying to tell you, baby
I'm willin' to learn
How to love you, baby
The fact is I love you, baby
It ain't just spring fever, no no
Completely captivated
Girl, you made me a believer
Just breezing along with you
Should be more, should be more than I ask for
I'm, I'm just trying to tell you, baby
I'm willin' to learn
How to love you, baby
I'm gonna work my fingers down to the bone
I'll never, never leave you alone
I'll treat you right day and night
I'm willin' to learn
How to love you, baby
Gonna play a song for you all night long
Tell 'em how you feel, brother, brother
Sometimes you just gotta moan, baby
With words like "ooh"
You make me say "ooh"
O mama, you make me just want to moan all night long
I said, girl, I'm gonna treat you right
I'm gonna love you all night long
Said I'm gonna learn, baby
You make me want to do right
For the first time in my life
