A serious health scare ignites John Thomas, an insurance salesman in his 50s, to take a closer look at his life. Motivated by a misguided obsession with getting 'Barack Obama' (qv) elected, John takes an overwhelming involvement in the Presidential campaign. While John becomes obsessed with the ideal of change that Obama represents for Americans, he has in turn neglected to create positive change in his own life, particularly with regard to his health and familial relationships. John hides his health problems from his strong, yet supportive wife, Molly, creating a strain on their marriage. John seeks the support of a Republican relative, MLK, who initially starkly resists supporting a Democratic candidate. John's son, Kalil, rebels against his father's avid support of Obama by supporting the Republican candidate as well. John neglects to support his daughter, Tamika, at a crucial moment in her life, as she has recently fallen in love and become engaged to be married. John faces additional discord with his other son, Jamel, an up-and-coming boxer, who gets mixed up with a shady manager, Slim, as he rises toward a professional boxing career. Joshua, John's recently-paroled brother, also struggles as he attempts to find work in a tough economy and to maintain his new marriage. When Molly discovers that John has been hiding his health scares from her, she urges him to take positive action to improve his bad habits. John works to get back on the right path with his health and family as Obama soars to success in the campaign.

Aquino III for bilateral talks to forge new agreements that will strengthen the country's partnership to the US being one of its closest allies in Asia. President Aquino will also host a State Dinner at the Palace in honor of President Obama, showcasing the country's top Filipino cuisine, traditional dances and performance arts. Early on, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued a notice-to-airmen (Notam) advising aircraft to expect delays with the closing of NAIA terminals from 12:30pm to 1:30pm on Monday and Tuesday in preparation for the President Obama's arrival and departure time. Following the Notam, the CAAP has also issued a no-fly zone in Malacañang complex all throughout the visit of the US President as part of the security protocol for a visiting head of state. Estamos separados por 90 millas de mar, pero unidos gracias a las relaciones entre los dos millones de cubanos y cubano-americanos que viven en Estados Unidos con los 11 millones de cubanos que comparten una esperanza similar de llevar a Cuba a un futuro más prometedor". "Está claro que las décadas de aislamiento de Cuba por parte de EE. UU. no han conseguido nuestro perdurable objetivo de promover el surgimiento de una Cuba estable, próspera y democrática. En determinados momentos, esta política de larga data de los EE. UU. en relación con Cuba provocó un aislamiento regional e internacional de nuestro país, restringió nuestra capacidad para influenciar el curso de los acontecimientos en el hemisferio occidental e imposibilitó el uso de toda una gama de medidas que Estados Unidos puede utilizar para promover un cambio positivo en Cuba. Barack Obama: US will respond to North Korea cyber attacks

President Barack Obama vowed that the United States will respond to the devastating cyberattack on Sony Pictures blamed on the North Korean government. Obama said the cyberattack "caused a lot of damage" to Sony but that he believed the company made a mistake in canceling the release of "The Interview," a comedy portraying the assassination of the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un. "We will respond," Obama told an end-of-year news conference. "We'll respond proportionally, and we'll respond in a place and time and manner that we choose." Two hours before he spoke, the FBI announced that investigators had determined that North Korea was behind the hacking of Sony, calling it an unacceptable act of state-sponsored "intimidation." Obama said North Korea appeared to have acted alone. It was the first time the United States had directly accused another country of a cyberattack of such magnitude on American soil and sets up a possible new confrontation between longtime foes Washington and Pyongyang. The destructive nature of the attack, and threats from the hackers that led the Hollywood studio to pull the movie, set it apart from previous cyber intrusions, the FBI said. A North Korean U.N. diplomat said Pyongyang had nothing to do with the cyberattack. "DPRK (North Korea) is not part of this," the diplomat told Reuters on condition of anonymity. Obama said he wished that Sony had spoken to him before yanking the movie, suggesting it could set a bad precedent. "I think they made a mistake," he said. "I wish they'd spoken to me first." He added: "We cannot have a society in which some dictator someplace can start imposing censorship here in the United States." Despite that, Obama's options for responding to the computer attack by the impoverished state appeared limited. North Korea has been subject to U.S. sanctions for more than 50 years, but they have had little effect on its human rights policies or its development of nuclear weapons. It has become expert in hiding its often criminal money-raising activities, largely avoiding traditional banks. The FBI said technical analysis of malware used in the Sony attack found links to malware that "North Korean actors" had developed and found a "significant overlap" with "other malicious cyber activity" previously linked to Pyongyang. "I am sympathetic to the concerns they faced," said Obama who noted the company faced "significant damage" from the hack. "Having said all that, I think they made a mistake." This was the first time Obama publicly weighed in on the Sony hack, which the FBI linked to North Korea on Friday morning. The hackers released statements saying the objected to the portrayal of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the movie. "I wish they had spoken to me first," Obama said of Sony. "I would have told them do not get into a pattern where your intimidated by these kinds of criminal attacks." He discouraged other company's facing similar threats from caving to that pressure. "Let's not get into that way of doing business," said Obama. Obama was also asked if he would watch the film. "I've got a long list of movies I'm going to be watching," Obama said. "I never release my full movie list." Obama, who noted he "liked" the stars of "The Interview," James Franco and Seth Rogen, said the fact North Korea was concerned about a "satirical" film is telling about the state of Kim Jong Un's regime. The president said America would "respond" to the hack, which he confirmed was linked to North Korea. He said the US would respond "proportionately," but noted he would not "announce" what this response would be "at a press conference." Obama predicted tax reform will occur in the new Congress. He described it as "one area where we can get things done." Obama also reiterated his opposition to corporate tax loopholes and inversions. "We think it's important that everybody pays something if they are, in fact, effectively headquartered in the United States," said Obama. He indicated Republicans "share" some of these positions. However, he declared, "The devil's in the details." "I'll be interested in seeing what they want to move forward," Obama said. Obama is also expected to discuss the new spending bill and his Cuba policy shift. Before taking questions from reporters, Obama made remarks where he characterized the year as a "breakthrough" one for the country. "In last year's final press conference, I said that 2014 will be a year of action and a breakthrough year for America," said Obama. "It has been." Obama went on to describe signs the economy improved over the past year. He then noted the country's leadership in the effort to fight the jihadist group Islamic State (also known as ISIS), America's opposition to Russian aggression in Ukraine, and work the country has done to fight the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. Obama also discussed the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan and the fact more members of the military would be home this holiday season than in recent years. The president said America has "outperformed" other countries in recovering from the economic crisis of 2008. He also said he hoped to be able to work with the Republican Congress next year. "In terms of my own job, I'm energized. I'm excited about the prospects for the coming years," said Obama, adding, "We are better positioned than we have been in a long time." He said the country is setting the stage for an "American moment." On Friday evening, Obama and his family are traveling to Hawaii for their annual holiday vacation. They are planing to remain their until after the new year.

When Green interviewed President Barack Obama on Thursday, she was wearing that iconic green lipstick, and—as a gesture of good faith—she brought three identical lipsticks to her interview for the president to give to his wife and two daughters. Up until the gifting of the lipsticks, Green's interview had been smart and eloquent touching on the issues of race and poverty in the United States. In the pressure of the moment, though, Green flipped her words and instead of saying that she had brought a lipstick for the "first lady" the words that came out of her mouth were "first wife." The President laughed (just like he did earlier in the interview when Green said that Cuba put the "dick in dictator) and asked if she knew something he didn't. The budget proposal for the Pentagon would provide for a hike in spending on weapons, research and maintenance, which had been scaled back under automatic budget cuts in recent years, officials told AFP. The Obama administration, which is due to unveil its budget request on Monday, will seek a base defense budget in fiscal year 2016 of $534.3 billion along with $50.9 billion for the wars in Afghanistan and against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, a defense official said. The request would invest $107.7 billion in weapons programs, an increase of $14.1 billion over the previous year, and provide $69.8 billion for research and development, up $6.3 billion from the last budget, the official said. The spending request would fund a major expansion for the F-35 fighter jet, allowing for the purchase of 57 of the radar-evading aircraft, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The proposed budget would also set aside $209.8 billion for operations and maintenance, an account that absorbed major reductions under the automatic cuts two years ago.
