David Samuel "Sam" Peckinpah (February 21, 1925 – December 28, 1984) was an American film director and screenwriter who achieved prominence following the release of the Western epic The Wild Bunch (1969). He was known for the innovative and explicit depiction of action and violence, as well as his revisionist approach to the Western genre.
Peckinpah's films generally deal with the conflict between values and ideals, and the corruption of violence in human society. He was given the nickname "Bloody Sam" owing to the violence in his films. His characters are often loners or losers who desire to be honorable, but are forced to compromise in order to survive in a world of nihilism and brutality.
Peckinpah's combative personality, marked by years of alcohol and drug abuse, affected his professional legacy. Many of his films were noted for behind-the-scenes battles with producers and crew members, damaging his reputation and career during his lifetime. Many of his films, such as Straw Dogs (1971), Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974), remain controversial.

Plot
What was it like in 1973, when director Sam Peckinpah co-wrote and directed a film entitled 'Bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia'. The film was made in and around Mexico City. One week into a difficult shoot, the head of United Artists threatened to pull the plug on the entire production. After a long hot day of shooting, Sam Peckinpah and his producer partners leapt into action in order to save their motion picture.

Plot
The western is dead, or so says Hollywood. The cowboys are gone, turned into businessmen and real estate agents. In the town of Deep Sands lies Sam Peckinpah's ghost, waiting for someone with enough heart to bring back the western to the forefront of American cinema. Hollywood knows it's coming. Threatened by the resurgence of the western genre, action star Vin Diesel has already sent out an assassin to stop Sam and newcomer Jack Yeager in their tracks. But the drive of the western is too strong, and Jack and Sam begin their quest. Joined by Steven Seagal, the crew rides into Hollywood, doing whatever it takes to put the capital W back in Western.

He made his name in low-budget thrillers and now the affable aussie plays the tyrannical pharoah Ramses in Exodus. God And Kings ... Photograph ... Exodus ... I knew nothing! Then at 17, I go to drama school and suddenly I discover Al Pacino and this huge fucking smörgåsbord of Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, The Godfather… then I’m stumbling on all these great Sam Peckinpah movies, and I suddenly understood what acting was actually about....

There is a wide gulf between the movies Sam Peckinpah made with his whole heart in it and the ones he did for the money. Peckinpah's greatness shines in The Wild Bunch, Ride The High Country, Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia and Straw Dogs - all movies he co-wrote. But when Peckinpah didn't have his name on the script, it was easy to tell ... It's one of the signs that this movie wasn't completely Peckinpah's idea....
