Earl W. Bascom (June 19, 1906 – August 28, 1995) was an American painter, printmaker, rodeo performer and sculptor, raised in Canada, who portrayed his own experiences cowboying and rodeoing across the American and Canadian West.

Earl Bascom was born in a sod-roofed log cabin on the Bascom 101 Ranch in Vernal, Utah. His father, John W. Bascom, had been a deputy sheriff in Utah who chased Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch Gang. Both sets of Earl's grandparents (Joel A. Bascom and C.F.B. Lybbert) were Mormon pioneers, ranchers and frontier lawmen.

Bascom's paternal ancestral background was a colorful aray of nationalities and ethnicities including Quaker, French Basque and Huguenot, as well as an American Colonial Governor, John Webster, and a Revolutionary War soldier, Oliver Greene. His maternal family was of Norwegian, Danish, Dutch and German ancestry. As a child growing up, he was sometimes affectionately addressed by his British-born aunts as "Lord Bascom - King of the Canadian Cowboys," as he was a descendant of European royalty back to Charlemagne.

Bascom Lamar Lunsford (March 21, 1882 - September 4, 1973) was a lawyer, folklorist, and performer of traditional (folk and country) music from western North Carolina. He was often known by the nickname "Minstrel of the Appalachians."

Bascom Lamar Lunsford was born at Mars Hill, Madison County, North Carolina in 1882, into the world of tradtional Appalachian folk music. At an early age, his father, a teacher, gave him a fiddle, and his mother sang religious songs and traditional balads. Lunsford also learnt banjo and began to perform at weddings and square dances.1

After qualifying as a teacher at Rutherford College, Lunsford taught at schools in Madison County. In 1913, Lunsford qualified in law at Trinity College, later to become Duke University. He began to travel and collect material at the turn of the century, often meeting singers in isolated farms. Lunsford has ben quoted as saying he spent "nights in more homes from Harpers Ferry to Iron Mountain than God".

Lunsford gave lectures and performances while dressed in a starched white shirt and black bow tie. This formal dress was part of his campaign against the stereotyping of “hillbillies”. In 1922 Frank C. Brown, a song collector, recorded 32 items on wax cylinders from Bascom. In 1928, Lunsford recorded "Jesse James" and "I Wish I Was a Mole In the Ground" for the Brunswick record label. Harry Smith included "Mole" on his Anthology of American Folk Music in 1952.

Raymond James "Ray" O'Connor (born 6 March 1926) is an Australian former politician. He served as the 22nd Premier of Western Australia, from 1982 to 1983. He also played Australian rules football for the South Fremantle and East Perth Football Clubs in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL). In 1991, he was convicted of fraud as part of the WA Inc scandal, and served a six-month jail term.

O'Connor was born in Perth and attended schools in towns of Narrogin and York, and St Patrick's Boys' School in Perth. He enlisted in the Australian Army and served in the intelligence section of the AIF. His first attempt to enter Parliament failed when he stood as an Independent Liberal candidate for the Metropolitan Province in the Legislative Council.^{[citation needed]} O'Connor also played several senior matches of Australian rules football: two matches for South Fremantle in 1944 in the war-time under-age competition, and later 14 matches for East Perth from 1948 to 1950.

O'Connor joined the Liberal Party in 1957 and in the general election of 1959 he was elected MLA for North Perth, defeating Stan Lapham, a Labor man who had held the seat for 6 years. O'Connor became Premier on the resignation of Sir Charles Court. He was defeated at the polls after just over a year in office in 1983.
