I made this film with my friend and fellow Venturer (we're now Rovers) James Gralton as part of undertaking the Queen's Scout Award.
My video camera (a 1994 model JVC camcorder) died not too long after this film. You can see the poor image quality.
The Venture is like a Jamboree but for Venturers (the Scouting section for teenagers). It was held in the summer of 2003 (January) in the Australian Capital Territory.
Apart from this film I did lots of citizenship, personal development, environment and volunteering stuff. The whole process was incredibly enriching and at the end the Queen of Australia made me a Queen's Scout*.
*You are not awarded the Queen's Scout Award but instead become a Queen's Scout via Royal Warrant (or some such process). Makes sense?

On saturday May 12th 2012 a Commemoration was arranged at the crash site located just 1500 meters south of the western runway at Gardermoen international airport, Norway.
Almost 40 relatives came to Norway that weekend, representing 16 of the 20 deceased men. The relatives came all the way from Australia, England and Scottland.
After the German surrender on may the 8th 1945, the allied forces carried out "Operation Doomsday" the next day: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Doomsday
A total of 30.000 Allied troops were sent to Norway to supervise the disarmament of more than 350,000 German troops. There were fears that the German forces might refuse to surrender and instead resist the Allied occupation forces.
At 07.30 local time on May the 10th 1945, 15 aircraft from RAF 190 Squadron took off from Shepherds Grove in Suffolk.
The goal was Gardermoen, Norway, but because of bad weather 13 of the aircrafts returned to Sheperds Grove. One aircraft landed safely, but LK147 from the 196 Squadron crashed in the deep valley about 2 km south of the west runway at the Gardermoen airport.
Another Stirling LK297 crashed in Andtjernåsen, Sørkedalen outside Oslo http://ktsorens.tihlde.org/flyvrak/sorkedalen.html and another Stirling LJ899 crashed at lake Røgden, Finnskogen on the Norwegian-Swedish border http://ktsorens.tihlde.org/flyvrak/rogden.html
The cause is uncertain, but the eyewitness Sigmund Vøien (25 at that time), observed that the aircraft came in low, about 10 meters above the roof top on the farm. Another eyewitness has said that one of the two engines on the left side suddenly caught fire. Vøien on the other hand, didn`t see any fire or smoke.
20 men were killed, among them Flying Officer John Leonard Breed (24) from Western Australia, 5 of his crew members and 14 soldiers from the THE BORDER REGIMENT 1ST AIRBORNE BATTALION. No one survived.
During "Operation Doomsday" 663 planes landed at Gardermoen and 405 at Sola, bringing 7139 soldiers.
A temporarly Cemetary was established at the crash site. On November the 17th 1945 the remains were exhumed and buried at Oslo western civil cemetery, Vestre gravlund, (Commonwealth War Graves).
Some remains of the Short Stirling LK147 is still there, on the banks of the little river Sogna, eroded by the ravages of time.
The small Cemetary at Sogna was almost forgotten, when senior adviser for cultural affairs in Nannestad Municipality Lars Jahr together with Ullensaker Historical society, removed trees and shrubs, and reconstructed the beautiful and simple white picket fence during summer 2009 and 2010.

May 8th 1945 was Victory in Europe Day. The Allied forces carried out OPERATION DOOMSDAY the same day. Mission: to Liberate Norway. Over 360.000 heavily armed Nazi German forces still occupied Norway, as they had done for the last five years since April 9th 1940.
The Allied engaged a massive invasion of Norway, that brought 30.000 Allied soldiers to Norway through sea and air. On May 10 1945 three Short Stirling Aricrafts crashed enroute to Gardermoen Airfield on their mission to Liberate Norway. 48 men died on that very same day.
