Barking is a suburban town in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, in East London, England. A retail and commercial centre situated in the west of the borough, it lies 9.1 miles (14.6 km) east of Charing Cross. The area is identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London. Barking is an area of regeneration with two main centres of activity, Barking Town Centre and Barking Riverside.
Its name came from Anglo-Saxon Berecingas, meaning either "the settlement of the followers or descendants of a man called Bereca" or "the settlement by the birch trees".
"Barking", in English slang, is short for "barking mad". Barking is sometimes cited as the origin of the phrase. This is attributed to the alleged existence of a medieval insane asylum attached to Barking Abbey. However, the phrase is not medieval, and first appeared only in the 20th century. A more likely derivation is from comparing an insane person to a mad dog.
Think back to a bar surrounded by craziness
Unthinking drunken punk excess
Lives exploding from the stress
Of thoughts restrained by soberness
Misconception misdirection
Shredding lifelong friend connection
Contorted faces barbed wire words
Fighting talk that goes - heard
ABC defences rise
From loss of all pretences - why
This is real as one perceives it
But total shit as the other sees it
Bang - two friends get separated
I hate to see it generated
One dog barks the other runs
To get another bigger gun
Observers stay but know the fun
Has gone - you know that everyone
Has half an idea what went wrong
But being drunk the idea's gone
The idea's gone
The questions all get theorised
The answer sleeps unrealised
See you in the morning then
I hope we see those to again
Clinking glasses eye to eye
I drive too fast
Under a full moon
Save the best to last
Under a full moon
And pray you don't crash
Under a full moon
When the head's too far out of whack
Step back, step back
Step back, step back
Step back, step back
Step back, step back
Step back, step back
And the hope of the world
Rides with one man
Everybody crying
On the telephone ringing
We hold our breath
We spin around the world
You and me cling
To the outside of the earth
Under a full moon
Under a full moon
I got you on my brain again, again
And I hear your voice
On a northbound bus
Chinatown to Chinatown
And the hope of the world
Rides with one man
Everybody crying
On the telephone ringing
We hold our breath
We spin around the world
You and me cling
To the outside of the earth
Under a full moon
Will you hold my camera?
Will you press release?
Will you capture me?
As the lights go down
And the hope of the world
Rides with one man
Everybody crying
On the telephone ringing
We hold our breath
We spin around the world
You and me cling
To the outside of the earth
Under a full moon
Step back, step back
Step back, step back
Step back, step back
Step back, step back
Don't wait for me, I'm always late
It's in my blood, in the stone
I feel the world go round
I feel the world go round
