Southbank Centre is a complex of artistic venues in London, UK, on the South Bank of the River Thames between County Hall and Waterloo Bridge. It comprises three main buildings (the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Hayward Gallery), and is Europe’s largest centre for the arts. It attracts more than three million visitors annually. Nearly a thousand paid performances of music, dance and literature are staged at Southbank Centre each year, as well as over 300 free foyer events and an education programme, in and around the performing arts venues. In addition, three to six major art exhibitions are presented at Hayward Gallery yearly, and National Touring Exhibitions reach over 100 venues across the UK.
Yoko Ono(オノ・ヨーコ(小野 洋子),Ono Yōko?, born February 18, 1933) is a Japanese artist, author, and peace activist, known for her work in avant-garde art, music and filmmaking as well as her marriage to John Lennon. Ono brought feminism to the forefront in her music which prefigured New Wave music and is known for her philanthropic contributions to the arts, peace and AIDS outreach programs.
Yoko Ono was born in Tokyo in 1933 to mother Isoko Ono, the great-granddaughter of Zenjiro Yasuda of the Yasuda banking family, and to father Yeisuke Ono, a banker and one-time classical pianist who was a descendant of an Emperor of Japan. The name "Yoko" means "ocean child". Two weeks before she was born, her father was transferred to San Francisco by his employer, the Yokohama Specie Bank. The rest of the family followed soon after and Yoko met her father when she was two. Her younger brother Keisuke was born in December 1936. In 1937, her father was transferred back to Japan and Ono was enrolled at Tokyo's Gakushuin (also known as the Peers School), one of the most exclusive schools in Japan.

"The conversation which should be being had is the preservation of the iconic undercroft. This is what tens of thousands of Londoners and visitors to London have signed up to support, and this is the conversation the Southbank Centre is refusing to have.
Their strategically timed publishing of relocation designs ahead of a public forum is the kind of tactic we have come to expect from the Southbank Centre. It is of significant importance that they had previously admitted that their error was not consulting the users of the undercroft which is ultimately why they are in this position, yet they are making exactly the same mistake once again.
The Southbank Centre have recognised Long Live Southbank as the official representation of the undercroft, yet they seek to undermine us at every opportunity in order to avoid discussing preservation and push for relocation, despite not providing us with any proof that the Festival Wing cannot go ahead if the undercroft area remained intact as it is.
They continue to refuse to recognise the voice of the most diverse and inclusive communities on the Southbank site, a voice which has galvinized a campaign with unprecedented public support."

Queensland is proudly known as the sunshine state of Australia, and any time of year makes a good time to visit Brisbane (often called Brizzy by locals). Brisbane sightseeing is marked by parks, coastline, gardens, and more. Whether you want to play in the water or partake in some epic shopping, this Australian city welcomes you.
Start your Brisbane tour with a stop at Mount Coot-tha. The name of this mountain peak is derived from the Maori word for honey, which was once found in abundance here. While you’re at Mount Coot-tha, explore the stars of the Southern Hemisphere at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium. Next, visit a laughing kookaburra at Brisbane Botanical Gardens.
Don’t forget about the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, where you can visit koalas, kangaroos, and other local animals. Once you’re ready to commune with humans again, head to Queen Street Mall for the heart of Brisbane’s shopping. The South Bank is rich with free activities, markets, and a lagoon where you can cool off.
Spare some time to take the public ferry to Newfoundland Park, where you can visit the restored Brisbane Powerhouse, filled with art installations. To end your day, climb the Story Bridge, an ideal spot to watch the sun set over the city. Don’t worry, Brisbane tourism includes many fine and casual dining options.

Brisbane /ˈbrɪzbən/[4] is the capital and most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland and the third most populous city in Australia. Brisbane's metropolitan area has a population of 2.2 million,[1] and the South East Queensland urban conurbation, centered on Brisbane, encompasses a population of more than 3 million.[1] The Brisbane central business district stands on the original European settlement and is situated inside a bend of the Brisbane River, approximately 23 km (14 mi) from its mouth at Moreton Bay. The metropolitan area extends in all directions along the floodplain of the Brisbane River valley between the bay and the Great Dividing Range. While the metropolitan area is governed by several municipalities, a large portion of central Brisbane is governed by the Brisbane City Council, which is by far Australia's largest Local Government Area by population. The demonym of Brisbane is Brisbanite.
Brisbane is named after the river on which it sits, which in turn was named after Scotsman Sir Thomas Brisbane, the Governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825. The first European settlement in Queensland was a penal colony at Redcliffe, 28 kilometres (17 mi) north of the Brisbane central business district, in 1824. That settlement was soon abandoned and moved to North Quay in 1825. Free settlers were permitted from 1842. Brisbane was chosen as the capital when Queensland was proclaimed a separate colony from New South Wales in 1859.
The city played a central role in the Allied campaign during World War II as the South West Pacific headquarters for General Douglas MacArthur. Brisbane has hosted many large cultural and sporting events, including the 1982 Commonwealth Games, World Expo '88 and the final Goodwill Games in 2001. Brisbane is the largest economy between Sydney and Singapore, and as of 2008 is classified as a Global city.[5] It was also rated the 16th most liveable city in the world in 2009 by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
Tourism plays a major role in Brisbane's economy, being the third-most popular destination for international tourists after Sydney and Melbourne.[75] Popular tourist and recreation areas in Brisbane include the South Bank Parklands, Roma Street Parkland, the City Botanic Gardens, Brisbane Forest Park and Portside Wharf. The Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary opened in 1927 and was the world's first koala sanctuary.[76]
The suburb of Mount Coot-tha is home to a popular state forest, and the Brisbane Botanic Gardens which houses the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium and the "Tsuki-yama-chisen" Japanese Garden (formerly of the Japanese Government Pavilion of Brisbane's World Expo '88).
Brisbane has over 27 km (16.8 mi) of bicycle pathways, mostly surrounding the Brisbane river and city centre, extending to the west of the city. The river itself was popular with bathers, and it permitted boating excursions to Moreton Bay when the main port was in the city reaches.[76] Today fishing and boating are more common. Other popular recreation activities include the Story Bridge adventure climb and rock climbing at the Kangaroo Point cliffs.
The nearby Australia Zoo, made famous by Steve Irwin, also encourages many tourists to visit Brisbane.[77]

Frankfurt - Germany Travel Guide http://bit.ly/1gBj2VJ
Frankfurt travel guide, Frankfurt , Germany, Tourism, Vacation, Tourism in Frankfurt, Tourism in Germany
Germany's fifth largest city, Frankfurt am Main is the nation's economic powerhouse, as well as being a highly regarded cultural centre.
Located in the middle of the highly productive Rhine-Main region, right at the centre of Europe, the city is the financial heart not only of Germany, but also of the European Union.
The modern skyscrapers of banks and big business in the central business district are potent symbols of Frankfurt's economic strength and create a skyline that is more North American than European in aspect -- indeed, the city is often dubbed 'Mainhattan'.
Most of Frankfurt's visitors come for one of the numerous trade fairs, exhibitions and congresses. But Frankfurt has another side. As the birthplace of Germany's most revered writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), the city is at pains to impress with its cultural pedigree. Excellent museums, high-calibre performance groups and local festivals tempt too.
-------------------
Frankfurt History
A settlement since at least 3000BC, and settled by the Romans, as the name of the Römer district implies, Frankfurt am Main, to give it its full name and differentiate it from Frankfurt and der Oder in the east of the country, has been Germany's financial centre for centuries.
Frankfurt's long history of commerce stems from its central geographical location on the Main River and the Frankfurt Messe (fair). The Messe has been going since the 12th century and the city received its official Imperial privilege to hold an annual trade fair 100 years later.
The Frankfurt Börse (stock exchange) began trading in the late 16th. If Frankfurt's political aspirations were dashed by the choice of Bonn as capital of the Federal Republic in 1949, the city has directed its post-war energies all the more wholeheartedly into its uncontested financial role.
Frankfurt has been subject to the deprivations of war on numerous occasions, notably during the Napoleonic Wars, when it was seized and occupied by the French on several occasions. And it was severely bombed during WWII, action that resulted in the almost complete destruction of the city's medieval centre -- hence its present mainly modern architecture.
However, a number of old buildings in the Römerberg area were reconstructed in their original style, as was the cathedral.
In latter years, Frankfurt has become a remarkably cosmopolitan city -- it's estimated that people of 180 different nationalities live and work there. It has large Turkish, Korean and Sri Lankan communities among these.
-------------
Weather in Frankfurt
Best time to visit:
Frankfurt's climate is generally mild and well balanced with warm, occasionally wet days in summer, with temperatures sometimes reaching 30°C (90°F) and more, and chilly winter days, when temperatures range between -10°C (14°F) and 10°C (40°F).

Carsten Höller: Decision culminates in the artist’s Isomeric Slides. Accessed from Hayward Gallery’s roof, these slides turn ordinary gallery activity on its head. In a setting usually reserved for contemplation, Höller’s slides are an invitation to lose control. A slide, Höller has remarked, is both ‘a sculpture that you can travel inside’ and a ‘device for experiencing a unique condition somewhere between delight and madness’.

Its 54 articles cover issues as varied as language and health, war and adoption, work and play. Our festival takes this groundbreaking document as its inspiration and features experts in the field such as Camila Batmanghelidjh, founder and director of Kids Company, Dr Maggie Atkinson, the Children's Commissioner for England, actor and director Femi Oyeniran and Amal Azzudin, one of the original Glasgow Girls campaigners, alongside young people from Kids Company.

In a setting usually reserved for contemplation, Höller’s slides are an invitation to lose control. The South Bank is an entertainment, commercial and urban parkland district of Central London, England, next to the River Thames opposite the far east of the City of Westminster and all of City of London. It forms a narrow, unequal strip of riverside land within the London Borough of Lambeth and the London Borough of Southwark where it joins Bankside which is usually considered a part. As with most Central London districts its edges evolve and are informally defined however its central area has no rival names. It has the Southbank Centre, Sea Life London Aquarium, the London Dungeon and the London Film Museum, Jubilee Gardens and the London Eye among its long list of attractions.
South Bank developed later than the north bank of the river due to its formerly often waterlogged condition in winter, and throughout its history has twice functioned as an entertainment district, interspersed by around a hundred years of wharfs, domestic industry and manufacturing being its main use. Restoration began in 1917 with the construction of County Hall at Lambeth replacing the Lion Brewery, its Coade stone symbol was retained and placed on a pedestal at Westminster Bridge and is known as the South Bank Lion. The pedestrianised embankment is The Queen's Walk which is part of the Albert Embankment built not only for public drainage but to raise the whole tract of land and prevent flooding.
In 1951 the Festival of Britain redefined the area as a place for arts and entertainment. It now forms a significant tourist district in central London, stretching from the Blackfriars Bridge in the east to Westminster Bridge in the west. A series of central London bridges connect the area to the northern bank of the Thames Golden Jubilee and Waterloo Bridge.

LLSB: Response to the Southbank Centre's Hungerford Bridge skatepark plans
LLSB activists Chewy Cannon and Henry Edwards-Wood address the Southbank Centre's premature skatepark plans and their over all lack of engagement with their most passionate and politically active community.
Speaking from White Grounds skate plaza in London Bridge - a disused purpose built plaza built by the same designer of the new Hungerford Bridge plans - Henry and Chewy set some facts straight about the real relationship between the Southbank Centre and Long Live Southbank.
Go to http://www.llsb.com to challenge the marginalisation of our community.
LLSB has also released this statement from Henry Edwards-Wood

Things to do in Brisbane: City Travel Guide
For a relaxing city break, Brisbane is the perfect place to visit. Start your trip with a trip to the top of the clock tower for city views to get your bearings.
South Bank Parklands is a great place to take the family, start with the wheel of Brisbane for great views of the river, take the kids to the playground and then go for a dip at the manmade beach.
Art lovers should head to the Gallery of Modern Art and the Queensland Art Gallery located not far from South Bank.
Visit the highest peak in Brisbane for stunning views of the city at Mt Coot-tha and take a stroll along the walking trails. If you don't fancy walking to the top, browse the botanic gardens and parklands at the base.
The kids will love a trip to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, hold the koalas and hand feed the kangaroos.
To end your day, there are some great restaurants in South Bank and along the river at Eagle Street Pier. West End and New Farm also have some great cafes and restaurants.
If you'd like to carry on your night at one of the many bars or clubs head to Fortitude Valley.

Brisbane Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Brisbane Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
What will you do on your next trip to Brisbane?

LWT (London Weekend Television) Construction of the LWT South Bank TV Centre 1972
An internal London Weekend Television film charting the construction of LWT's headquarters, initially known as Kent House and later as the South Bank Television Centre, The London Studios and the ITV Tower.
LWT's studio building at Upper Ground on the South Bank is now a famous London landmark and home to the ITV network. Kent House was built by contractors Higgs and Hill and was, in the early 1970s, the most modern and best-equipped studio complex in Europe. The whole building seems to sum up LWT's spirit - big, bold, and in your face - a larger than life presence at the centre of the city's entertainment and arts district. Of course, LWT was proud of its iconic studio building and rdgularly used images of it for continuity and presentation purposes from the late 1970s to the mid 1980s.

WHY? What's Happening for the Young
WHY? What's Happening for the Young
Did you know that there is a United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child? Recognised by 191 UN member states around the globe, and signed by the UK in 1990, it sets out the human rights of everyone under the age of 18.
