Hello! Here is a video of me trying to speak Norwegian. While I technically first started learning Norwegian last December I only started actively studying a few months ago. I traveled to Norway and stayed in Trondheim and Oslo for two and a half months from August to mid-October. I loved it and hope to go back soon! Below is an English translation: Hi, my name is Alex. I am an American and will try to speak Norwegian. I have studied Norwegian for one year and have recently come back from a 2 and half month trip to Norway. I thought to write a travel blog, but I was too lazy and never started it. But now that I am back in New York again I have finally started this video blog to talk about my experiences and to document my progress with learning the Norwegian language. Why in the world did I decide to study Norwegian? That will be a theme for another video. But after my trip I decided to apply to study there. I withdrew from an American college and have spent the past few years self studying and taking online classes, but now I wish to continue to study at an institution again. If I will study at a Norwegian school I have to take the Bergens Test first. But learning a language takes a long time and a lot of energy so I hope to be inspired to study more. I hope Norwegians can help me with my pronunciation and grammar by giving feedback, and perhaps some people would like to help me improve my conversational skills as well. I hope to meet others who are also studying Norwegian, foreigners and international students in Norway, Norwegians in the US, and anyone would like to talk about Norway! I was like to meet new people and make friends. That was it for now, thank you for watching! See ya!

Norwegian Americans (Norwegian: norskamerikanere) are Americans of Norwegian descent. Norwegian immigrants went to the United States primarily in the later half of the 19th century and the first few decades of the 20th century. There are more than 4.5 million Norwegian Americans according to the most recent U.S. census, and most live in the Upper Midwest. Norwegian Americans currently comprise the 10th largest American ancestry group.
Norsemen from Greenland and Iceland were the first Europeans to reach North America. Leif Ericson reached North America via Norse settlements in Greenland around the year 1000. Norse settlers from Greenland founded the settlement of L'Anse aux Meadows in Vinland, in what is now Newfoundland, Canada. These settlers failed to establish a permanent settlement.
There was a Norwegian presence in New Amsterdam (New York after 1664) in the early part of 17th century. Hans Hansen Bergen, a native of Bergen, Norway, was one of the earliest settlers of the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam having immigrated in 1633. Another of the first Norwegian settlers was Albert Andriessen Bradt who arrived in New Amsterdam in 1637. Pieter Van Brugh, Mayor of Albany, New York was the grandson of Norwegian immigrants. His mother's parents were Roelof Janse (1602–1637), born in Marstrandsön, a small island situated in Båhuslen province in Norway (it was ceded to Sweden in 1658) and Anneke Jans (1605–1663), born on Flekkerøy, an island situated outside the town of Kristiansand, Vest-Agder county, Norway.
