Miss Universe 1969
(Winner)
Gloria Maria Aspillera Díaz (born March 10, 1947) is an award-winning actress in the Philippines, and the first Filipino to bring home the Miss Universe crown during the Miss Universe 1969 Beauty Pageant held in Miami Beach, Florida, USA.
Díaz was born in Aringay, La Union Philippines, an Ibaloi tribe from Baguio city. Often referred to as one of the Díaz clan in newspapers, Díaz was one of 12 children. One of her sisters, Río Díaz, was also a Filipino actress and beauty titlist, who died after a six year battle with colon cancer.
Díaz was approached by an individual who believed she would do well in the Miss Universe competition and groomed the young woman. Díaz was only 22 when she became Miss Universe 1969 after besting other candidates on the final question. It was about how to welcome the first men that had just landed on the moon -- Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins -- as soon as they were back on the planet. She was crowned at the International American-owned pageant in Miami Beach, Florida, USA after their footage was set on the Statue of Liberty in New York.
i'll wear my army coat
cause that's all that i own
i won't forget about
the time spent so alone
you wear your navy shirt
and plaid skirt, no cell phone
those were our better days
i'd die to be there today
in 1994 it seems so far away from 1998
we use to say that we would never let go
we use to say things were OK but now i don't know
i'm afraid to wake up so i won't
if you know any other way, i don't
where were you before 1994?
why did you walk away in 1998?
i can't take anymore cause 1994
it seems so far away from 1998
the songs we use to sing
the walks that we would talk
forget about those days
I haven't cried since my father died
He took a piece of me when he flew away
You all think you know who I am
But did you know I killed a man back in '94?
I know you're with me tonight
I know you're with me tonight
I had a chance to spend my last days with him
But I chose to turn away, blinded by reality
I saw him in one of my dreams
He was the captain of a ship sailing towards the light
I know you're with me tonight
I know you're with me tonight
Where we all left the club
with the sunrise coming up
it was different, i felt suddenly
every summer has an end
you've been looking for new friends
it was different, like it used to be
This moment will stay with me
This moment will stay with me
When I walked down the street
in the early morning heat
it overwhelmed me suddenly
I closed my eyes an the I cried
took a picture in my mind
This moment will stay with me
This moment will stay with me
This moment will stay with me
This moment will stay with me
This moment will stay with me
It was 1994 and we kissed on the floor
this moment will stay with me
it was 1994 and we wanted more and more
this moment will stay with me
This moment will stay with me
This moment will stay with me
This moment will stay with me
This moment will stay with me
Do you remember when this was
All still new and exciting?
When new bands and records weren't lame
And skateboarding meant everything
I wanna get that feeling back
I wanna hear that song in my ears
The one you fucking played
Over and over again
These are the people
That changed our lives
These are the records
We still listen to today
And paved the way
For shitty bands like mine
To try and get it right
Now we're growing old
And still holding on
To what we started
When we were young
We're not giving up
We're still going strong
I remember Washington Park
Seeing the Ramones for free
I'll never forget of that day
The punks took over Albany
I forgot to mention Stranger Than Fiction,
Punk In Drublic, Trashed, Smash,
Dookie, Pummel, Let's Go and
How To Clean Everything
These are the people
That changed our lives
These are the records
We still listen to today
And paved the way
For shitty bands like mine
To try and get it right
When will we finally
Decide to throw in
Our towel
I can't see it
Happening anytime soon
Honestly this shit's just
Too much fun
For us to call it quits
We're in it for life
With open minds and
i'll wear my army coat
cause that's all that i own
i won't forget about
the time spent so alone
you wear your navy shirt
and plaid skirt, no cell phone
those were our better days
i'd die to be there today
in 1994 it seems so far away from 1998
we use to say that we would never let go
we use to say things were OK but now i don't know
i'm afraid to wake up so i won't
if you know any other way, i don't
where were you before 1994?
why did you walk away in 1998?
i can't take anymore cause 1994
it seems so far away from 1998
the songs we use to sing
the walks that we would talk
forget about those days
a childish, nostalgic walk
