The current flying car prototype AeroMobil 3.0 incorporates significant improvements and upgrades to the previous pre-prototype AeroMobil 2.5. It is now finalised and has been in regular flight-testing program in real flight conditions since October 2014. The AeroMobil 3.0 is predominantly built from advanced composite material. That includes its body shell, wings, and wheels. It also contains all the main features that are likely to be incorporated into the final product, such as avionics equipment, autopilot and an advanced parachute deployment system. AeroMobil 3.0 also implements a number of other advanced technologies, such as a variable angle of attack of the wings that significantly shortens the take-off requirements, and sturdy suspension that enables it to take-off and land even at relatively rough terrain. It is a dream that only few people believed in – a flying car. Currently he works on prototype of AeroMobil 3.0 after he successfully tested concepts and pre-prototype. Having graduated from Slovak University of Technology in 1983, Klein studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (AFAD), and also at the École des Beaux Arts et Design, Saint Étienne in 1993. Klein became Head of Department for Transport and Design at AFAD where he had responsibility for leading innovative research projects for companies including Audi, Volkswagen and BMW. Klein’s passion for flying led him to co-found AirExplore family owned charter flights company and he has personally clocked up over 1,200 hours of flying a powered aircraft and over 8,000 hours of flying a glider. His ability to mix design and innovation with commercial acumen has resulted in several successful projects such as the walking excavator for Menzi Muck Switzerland, Locomotive 772, Golf car for Melex Poland and the electric scooter for Piponeer to name but a few. He is currently visiting professor at the Mackintosh School of Art in Glasgow. The world’s first production-ready flying car, which transforms from an automobile to a plane in just several seconds, has been unveiled to the public by its Austrian inventors. The presentation of AeroMobil 3.0 took place at the Pioneers Festival in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Wednesday. “Really, I dedicate of this topic practically 25 years and I started really in garage with my father and with my brother and we made several projects, several prototypes, and now it's time that we can present the real concept,” AeroMobil co-founder and CTO, Stefan Klein, said. The AeroMobil 3.0 transforms from a car to a plane by unfolding its wings, which are located behind the cockpit where the rear seats in an ordinary car would be. The compact vehicle is designed to be able to drive in road traffic and fit into a standard parking space. The flying car requires a paved or grass strip of around 250 meters to take off, and just 50 meters to land. Powered by a Rotax 912 engine, it can reach speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour on land and 200 kilometers per hour in the air. The AeroMobil 3.0 runs on standard automobile gasoline and can be re-fueled at any petrol station. The fuel consumption stands at 12.5 kilometers per liter while flying, and 15 liters per hour while driving. A pilot’s license would be required to fly the car, which has all the safety features present in other airborne vehicles – including autopilot, avionics, and a parachute deployment system.
