Kerikeri Basin

John and Ann Dalton established the Kerikeri Chronicle in 1974.   Nine years later they sold to The News Ltd. 

In the late 1980's the former Bay Bugle and the Kerikeri Chronicle merged to form the Bay Chronicle.  The editorial office is based in Kerikeri.

The Bay Chronicle, recipient of several national community newspaper awards, has grown to an audited circulation of 11,940.  As part of the Suburban Newspapers Group, it serves the wider Bay of Islands and Doubtless Bay areas.

The Circulation area includes Bay Chronicle circulates in Doubtless Bay, RD3 Kaitaia, Kaeo, Kerikeri, Waipapa, Paihia, Opua, Russell and surrounding rural areas. Incorporating features from the Northern News.

Newspaper Display Advertising

Display advertising is located throughout the publication and utilises size, colour, illustration and typography to attract the reader's attention. Display advertising is primarily found in the editorial sections but can also be placed within classified sections if deemed appropriate and relevant.

You can request a preferred position within the newspaper for a fee or choose "run of paper" whereby the advertisement is placed in any position in the paper at our discretion. Opting for run of paper generally results in a reduced charge to an advertiser.

Classified Advertising

Classifieds are advertising only pages across a number of different categories e.g for sale, trade services or situations vacant.

Premium Positions

Advertisers are able to purchase front page solus, premium pages and specific positions, subject to availability.

Standard Sizes

Run of Paper display ads range from 8cm high x 7.5cm wide to a full page at 38cm high x 27cm wide.

Classified - Run-ons minimum of 4 lines to boxed ads with discounts available for regular volume advertising, colour classifed ads are available.

The Bay Chronicle publishes ROP every Thursday.

Advertorials are available for every 8 ads placed in one of the above features.

Reader advertisements are also accepted, they must contain the following:

  • reader advertisements must be entirely contained within a ruled border
  • the text may be set in ordinary news type
  • the word ADVERTISEMENT must be set in 14pt capitals and in bold, and must be placed inside the border at the top left-hand corner of the advertisement or centred at the top.

How to calculate a rate

The Bay Chronicle has a number of varying rate levels depending on volume and position in the paper. 

Solus or special loading positions are available for an added percentage rate

Multi-Paper bookings apply to the four northern papers, The Whangarei Leader, Northern News, The Bay Chronicle and the Dargaville and District News.  This applies for insertions of the same material in the same week.

The total amount is exclusive of gst.

How to book

Bookings can be made through the Northern News/The Bay Chronicle office, Suburban Newspapers office and the New Zealand Community Network office, all located at 2 Hereford Street, Freemans Bay, Auckland 1142.

All bookings are booked to a monthly account or prepaid by Credit Card or Direct Debit.
