The Dargaville & Districts News was founded in 1992 and has since
become a well respected community newspaper serving readers in the
Kaipara and surrounding districts. Original owner, Peter Martin,
published and distributed the paper until it was sold to Independent
Newspapers Ltd (INL) in 2000. It came under the management of
Independent Community Newspapers Ltd (ICN), based in Pukekohe, which
already managed two other Northland newspapers - Northern News and The
Bay Chronicle.
INL was sold to Fairfax Media in July 2003 and since July 2004 the
Dargaville & Districts News has been managed by Suburban Newspapers
Ltd.
