Johnny Reid "John" Edwards (born June 10, 1953) is an American politician, who served as a U.S. Senator from North Carolina. He was the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 2004, and was a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 and 2008.
He defeated incumbent Republican Lauch Faircloth in North Carolina's 1998 Senate election. Towards the end of his single six-year term, he sought the Democratic Party's nomination in the 2004 presidential election. He eventually became the 2004 Democratic candidate for vice-president, the running mate of presidential nominee Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts.
Following Kerry's loss to incumbent President George W. Bush, Edwards began working full-time at the One America Committee, a political action committee he established in 2001, and was appointed director of the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. He was also a consultant for Fortress Investment Group LLC. Edwards launched a second bid for the Democratic nomination during the 2008 presidential campaign.
Ricki Pamela Lake (born September 21, 1968) is an American actress, producer, and television host. She is best known for her starring role as Tracy Turnblad in the original Hairspray, her documentary film The Business of Being Born, and her talk show which was broadcast internationally from 1993–2004. In fall 2012, Lake will embark on a second syndicated talk show endeavor airing on weekdays.
Lake was born to a Jewish family in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, the daughter of Jill, a homemaker, and Barry Lake, a pharmacist. She attended Ithaca College and the Professional Children's School.
Lake made her film debut as Tracy Turnblad, the lead character in John Waters' 1988 cult-classic Hairspray. Lake also starred in other Waters films including the cult-classic Cry-Baby with Johnny Depp, Cecil B. Demented, and Serial Mom with Kathleen Turner.
Lake starred in Mrs. Winterbourne with Shirley Maclaine and Brendan Fraser, Cabin Boy, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Cookie, and Inside Monkey Zetterland. Lake joined the cast of the Vietnam War drama series China Beach as Red Cross volunteer Holly "the Donut Dolly" Pelegrino for the show's third season. Lake had a recurring role on the CBS sitcom King of Queens as Doug's sister Stephanie. She has also guest-starred on television series including Drop Dead Diva and a voice role on King of the Hill, and starred in the television movie Baby Cakes.
Char Margolis (born August 21, 1951) is an American psychic medium. She stars in her own show, Char, on Dutch television, in which she claims to utilize her intuition to contact the spirits of deceased relatives of guests in her show. Char has come under public scrutiny in the Netherlands after several media outlets suggested she was a fraud using several self-taught tricks, including cold reading, to perform her readings.
Margolis was born in Detroit, Michigan, on August 21, 1951. At the age of 5 her family moved to Oak Park, Michigan where she attended public school from K-12. She attended Oakland Community College and transferred to Wayne State University with a teaching degree in secondary education.
She was a volunteer for the Easter Seal Society in Michigan and while fundraising she was asked to be on a radio show as a psychic. She then was a regular on local TV in Michigan and in the 1980s was discovered by Regis Philbin, who at the time was hosting A.M.L.A.,[clarification needed] Char became a regular guest on the show. An appearance on Live with Regis in 2001 gave her national acclaim when she predicted Kelly Ripa's pregnancy (on live TV) when Kelly was auditioning for the host position. A stunned Ripa had to acknowledge the accuracy of this prediction by Char and in her own words, "I haven't even told my bosses yet!"[citation needed]
John Edward McGee, Jr. (born October 19, 1969) is an American television personality and professional psychic medium. He is best known for his TV shows Crossing Over with John Edward and John Edward Cross Country.
Born in Glen Cove, New York, Edward says he was convinced at a young age that he could become a psychic. After writing his first book on the subject in 1998, Edward became a well-known and controversial figure in the United States through his shows broadcast on SCI FI Channel beginning in July 2000 and We TV since May 2006.
The only son of an Irish-American policeman and an Italian-American working mother, Edward was raised Roman Catholic. Although Edward later stopped practicing that faith, he has said he never stopped feeling connected to God and is still closely connected to his Catholic roots. Edward once said, "This is something that is driven by a belief in God. It's the energy from that force that I think allows us to create this energy."
According to Edward, when he was 15 and "a huge doubter" (in psychic abilities), he was "read" by a New Jersey woman who convinced him that he could become a medium.
Cheryl Ladd (born Cheryl Jean Stoppelmoor; July 12, 1951) is an American actress, singer and author. Ladd is best known for her role as Kris Munroe in the television series Charlie's Angels, hired amid a swirl of publicity prior to its second season in 1977 to replace the departing Farrah Fawcett-Majors. Ladd remained with the show until its cancellation in 1981.
Ladd was born Cheryl Jean Stoppelmoor in Huron, South Dakota to parents of German descent,[citation needed] the second daughter of Dolores (née Katz), a waitress, and Marion Stoppelmoor (1929–2001), a railroad engineer. She married fellow actor David Ladd, son of the famous actor Alan Ladd, with whom she had a daughter, Jordan. She took his surname as her own, which she kept after their divorce. She has been married to music producer Bryan Russell since 1981, and has a stepdaughter, Lindsay Russell. Ladd is a celebrity ambassador for the child abuse prevention and treatment non-profit Childhelp.
Ladd initially came to Hollywood in 1970 to begin a career in music (she was known as "Cherie Moor" when she was the singing voice of Melody on Hanna-Barbera's Josie and the Pussycats animated series). She soon began to land non-singing roles in commercials and episodic television - including guest appearances on shows such as The Rookies, The Partridge Family and Happy Days. The Charlie's Angels series made her an overnight star, and Ladd took the opportunity of her sudden popularity to further pursue her musical interests, guest-starring in musical-comedy variety series and specials, performing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl XIV in January 1980, and releasing three albums, enjoying a Top 40 Hot 100 single and a Gold record. In September 2000, Ladd starred on Broadway, taking over the title role from Bernadette Peters in a revival of Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun. She played the role until January 2001, when Reba McEntire took over.
