Travel video about destination Syria. Syria is an ancient country of culture located between the Mediterranean and the desert. Its ancient desert metropolises, old villages, impenetrable fortresses and biblical harbour towns have witnessed the rich and fascinating history of bygone times.Damascus is the capital of Syria and symbol of culture in the Near East and located a hundred kilometres from the Mediterranean coast. The Kalaa Citadel is situated on the periphery of the old town that was once surrounded by huge walls and it was from there that Saladin fended off the attacks of the Crusaders. The Khan As´Ad Pasha is often referred to as being the most beautiful caravansary in the Near East. Its inner courtyard is covered by eight mighty and partly painted cupolas each of which is supported by four pillars. Set amid the desert savannah of Syria are the proud remains of a unique and mysterious metropolis, Palmyra, a legendary ancient city that was built due to the existence of the Tadmur Oasis. The shortest and fastest route from the Mediterranean to Mesopotamia and Persia travels directly past the Tadmur Oasis thus it was only a question of time until an important trading post was founded there. Around a quarter of a million Bedouins live in Syria’s desert areas. They are nomads who speak Arabic and belong to the Muslim faith and their income is derived from sheep, goats and camels which produce both milk and meat. They travel the desert accompanied by their animals. Further north on the edge of the fertile Al Ghab Ditch is the ancient metropolis of Apameia, one of the most beautiful cities in the Near East. Apart from Bosra and Palmyra this huge city of ruins is one of the most important Hellenist regions in Syria. Syria is the Pearl Of The East. With deserts, wadis and mountains, castles and crusader fortresses, Roman ruins, palaces and mosques. A legendary country between both past and future whose cultural treasures still survive today.

Take a tour of Ancient City of Bosra in Bosra, Syrian Arab Republic -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. The half-standing ruins of this dark-stoned city rise out of the southern Syrian landscape. Nearly deserted today, Bosra has a great deal of history from thousands of years of habitation by different cultures. The city is at least old enough to have appeared in historical documents from the fourteenth century BC. Early in the first millennium AD, Bosra became a part of the Roman Empire, which is the strongest influence seen at work in the ruins. Since then, it has been the territory of the Byzantine Empire and the Arabs who swept in during the seventh century. Among the ruined city's Roman and Christian structures, the fortified amphitheater is probably the greatest. This deep, stadium-like building is mostly intact and gives a taste of what Bosra may once have been like.
We see what the capital of Syria has to offer during Eid. We stay (mainly) in the old town and see the sights.

Travel video about destination Damascus in Syria. Damascus is the capital of Syria and is a symbol of culture in the Near East. A hundred kilometres from the Mediterranean coast, the strategically located city was once the capital of the Umayyad.Cannons, the busts of various presidents and military vehicles are displayed in the large courtyard of the Takiyeh Mosque, an ancient Dervish monastery complex. Built in 1554 and designed by Ottoman master architect, Sinan, it also includes an adjoining inn for the numerous pilgrims who travelled to Mecca. Damascus has always been much prized: by the pharaohs and the Babylonian monarch, Nebukadnezar, and later, Alexander The Great. Then came Persian, Roman and Islamic emperors followed by the Crusaders and Mongols. The Kalaa Citadel is situated on the periphery of the old town that was once surrounded by huge walls. It was from here that Saladin fended off the attacks of the Crusaders. The Romans built a fort here that was constantly extended with impressive walls and towers and located directly outside the city wall, the River Barada was also of strategic importance. Although the Mongols destroyed the inner buildings, the fortress walls survived. The Suq is an important part of every Islamic city, a market that originated in ancient times. Thousands of shops in numerous interconnected lanes form the commercial heart of Damascus. In the Gold Suq everything glitters, bracelets, rings and even a large variety of kitchen utensils. Damascus has for thousands of years been a place desired by the powerful. Yet it has managed to survive and is still the most beautiful capital city in the Near East.

This is a short clip about travel in Syria
Syria Travel - Syria is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest. The name Syria formerly comprised the entire region of the Levant, while the modern state encompasses the site of several ancient kingdoms and empires, including the Eblan civilization of the third millennium BC. In the Islamic era, its capital city, Damascus, was the seat of the Umayyad Empire and a provincial capital of the Mamluk Empire. Damascus is widely regarded as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Modern Syria was created as a French mandate and attained independence in April 1946, as a parliamentary republic. The post-independence period was rocky, and a large number of military coups and coup attempts shook the country in the period 1949-1970. Syria has been under Emergency Law since 1962, effectively suspending most constitutional protections for citizens, and its system of government is considered non-democratic. The country has been governed by the Baath Party since 1963, although actual power is concentrated to the presidency and a narrow grouping of military and political strongmen. Syrias current president is Bashar al-Assad, who won a referendum on extending his presidency for second term, garnering 97.62 percent of votes in 2007 and is the son of Hafez al-Assad, who held office from 1970 until his death in 2000. Syria has played a major regional role, particularly through its central role in the Arab conflict with Israel, which since 1967 has occupied the Golan Heights, and by active involvement in Lebanese and Palestinian affairs. The population is mainly Sunni Muslim, but with significant Alawite, Shia, Christian and Druze minorities. Since the 1960s, Alawite military officers have tended to dominate the countrys politics. Ethnically, some 80% of the population is Arab, and the state is ruled by the Baath Party according to Arab nationalist principles, while approximately 20% belong to the Kurdish, Armenian, Assyrian, Turkmen, and Circassians minorities. The heart-wrenching tale of torture and maltreatment shows just how bad life inside Syrian can be, especially as a woman. Why not join the channel at: http://www.youtube.com/worlddocs2100 Syria, officially the Syrian Arab Republic, is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest. Its capital Damascus is among the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world. A country of fertile plains, high mountains, and deserts, it is home to diverse ethnic and religious groups, including the Arab, Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, Kurds, Circassians, Mhallami, Mandeans and Turks. Religious groups include Sunni, Christians, Alawite, Druze religion, Mandeanism and Yezidi. Sunni Arabs make up the largest population group in Syria. In English, the name "Syria" was formerly synonymous with the Levant (known in Arabic as al-Sham) while the modern state encompasses the sites of several ancient kingdoms and empires, including the Eblan civilization of the 3rd millennium BC. In the Islamic era, Damascus was the seat of the Umayyad Caliphate and a provincial capital of the Mamluk Sultanate in Egypt. The modern Syrian state was established after World War I as a French mandate, and represented the largest Arab state to emerge from the formerly Ottoman-ruled Arab Levant. It gained independence in April 1946, as a parliamentary republic. The post-independence period was tumultuous, and a large number of military coups and coup attempts shook the country in the period 1949–1971. Between 1958-61, Syria entered a brief union with Egypt, which was terminated by a military coup. The Arab Republic of Syria came into being in 1963, transforming from the Republic of Syria in the Ba'athist coup d'état. Syria was under Emergency Law from 1963 to 2011, effectively suspending most constitutional protections for citizens, and its system of government is considered to be non-democratic. Bashar al-Assad has been president since 2000 and was preceded by his father Hafez al-Assad, who was in office from 1970 to 2000. EXCLUSIVE: VICE News Meets Barack Obama: http://bit.ly/1wT03Bi The Islamic State, a hardline Sunni jihadist group that formerly had ties to al Qaeda, has conquered large swathes of Iraq and Syria. Previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the group has announced its intention to reestablish the caliphate and has declared its leader, the shadowy Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as the caliph. The lightning advances the Islamic State made across Syria and Iraq in June shocked the world. But it's not just the group's military victories that have garnered attention — it's also the pace with which its members have begun to carve out a viable state. Flush with cash and US weapons seized during its advances in Iraq, the Islamic State's expansion shows no sign of slowing down. In the first week of August alone, Islamic State fighters have taken over new areas in northern Iraq, encroaching on Kurdish territory and sending Christians and other minorities fleeing as reports of massacres emerged. VICE News reporter Medyan Dairieh spent three weeks embedded with the Islamic State, gaining unprecedented access to the group in Iraq and Syria as the first and only journalist to document its inner workings. The World Health Organization said on Monday, the Syrian government has approved the delivery of medicine and surgical supplies to three areas of the country aid workers were previously unable to reach regularly, including opposition-held Aleppo. Elizabeth Hoff, the WHO's Syria representative, told Reuters the areas freed for access are Aleppo, the besieged Damascus district of Mouadamiya, and Eastern Ghouta, outside the capital. Hoff said, security constraints from the civil war have been the biggest impediment to aid deliveries. The United Nations says 4.7 million Syrians live in areas that are hard to reach, including at least 241,000 people who remain besieged by either government or opposition forces. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/it-RRp2qntE/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
According to the World Health Organization one million people have been wounded during Syria's civil war and diseases are spreading as regular supplies of medicine fail to reach patients. A plunge in vaccination rates from 90 percent before the war to 52 percent this year and contaminated water have added to the woes, allowing typhoid and hepatitis to advance. Assad's government -- which demands to sign off on aid convoys -- is still blocking surgical supplies, such as bandages and syringes, from entering rebel-held areas. Syrian officials could not be reached for comment on Thursday or Friday. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/nI0hPliKv-k/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
Resilience of health services under conflicts: UNRWA’s experience in Gaza and Syria ”Det globala hälsosamfundet måste inse hur viktigt fred och andra politiska faktorer är för människors hälsa” anser Akihiro Seita.
Syria’s pharmaceutical sector has been hit by many problems and difficulties. Many companies have been destroyed or at least have been vandalized. Located in conflict zones, especially in the rural areas of Aleppo and Homs, pharmacological labs have gone out of service or their capacity has dropped to minimum. This has crippled production of medicines at home. The economic sanctions imposed on Syria have also severely affected the import of raw materials needed for production of drugs for many chronic diseases. Meanwhile, some labs have moved their production lines to safer areas while some others still able to produce drugs and export them to some neighboring Arab countries, such as Iraq. Importing raw materials from ally countries such as Iran and Russia also helps secure production of some essential medicines for chronic diseases such blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma, besides chemical doses for cancer patients.Despite the difficult financial situation of the government, Damascus is still committed to supplying medication on discounted prices. The Syrian pharmacological industry used to cover 93% of the local market needs and was also exported to 54 countries through 76 companies across Damascus, Damascus countryside, Homs and Aleppo, whose factories are no longer functional. Medicine prices remained stable during the first 22 months of the crisis, but the increasing effect of the exchange rate increased the prices up to 40%. Today Syrians are suffering from insufficient medicines and health care under severe economic sanctions on the country by United States and its allies, as well as the ongoing attacks by foreign-backed militants. SUBSCRIBE to ELITE NWO AGENDA for Latest on ISIS / ISIL / UKRAINE CRISIS / NEW WORLD ORDER / EBOLA OUTBREAK / GOLD / SILVER / GLOBAL RESET http://www.youtube.com/EliteNWOAgenda U.S. AID & WEAPONS Destined for SYRIA Now In The Hands of ISIL / ISIS As if it was not tragic enough that much of the military equipment and munitions ISIS is using is supplied by the US via the Iraqi National Army, now it has been revealed that much of the humanitarian aid being provided by the US is also going to ISIS. In order to operate in Syria the health networks pay a portion of the aid and bribes to ISIS in the form of a tax. ISIS, which calls itself the Islamic State (IS), considers itself a government and therefore collects taxes in the area it controls. ISIS shows American-made weapons it says were intended for the Kurds but actually were air dropped into territory they control. At least one bundle of U.S. weapons airdropped in Syria appears to have fallen into the hands of ISIS, a dangerous misfire in the American mission to speed aid to Kurdish forces making their stand in Kobani. The payoffs come from networks that are transporting aid provided by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The payoffs from the health networks are used to feed ISIS fighters or, in the case of food and medicine, sold to fund ISIS operations. The health networks reportedly hide the payoffs on their books in fear that they would lose support if it became known that aid provided by the US and others was strengthening ISIS. The aid—mainly food and medical equipment—is meant for Syrians displaced from their hometowns, and for hungry civilians. It is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, European donors, and the United Nations. Whether it continues is now the subject of anguished debate among officials in Washington and European. The fear is that stopping aid would hurt innocent civilians and would be used for propaganda purposes by the militants, who would likely blame the West for added hardship. ISIS militants launched about 15 near-simultaneous attacks on Kurdish forces in northern Iraq on Monday in what Kurdish government officials and the Kurdish news agency Rudaw said was a fierce and renewed push for Kurdish-held territory. In June Obama ordered the deployment of an additional 200 troops to reinforce security at the embassy and airport. “The presence of these additional forces will help enable the Embassy to continue its critical diplomatic mission and work with Iraq on challenges they are facing as they confront (ISIS),” Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby said at the time. Security at the embassy and airport now face a serious threat from ISIS as it advances within striking distance of Baghdad. Earlier this month the U.S. and Gulf Emirate created terror army advanced as far as the Baghdad suburb of Abu Ghraib, a mere eight miles from the airport. “Daash [ISIS] is openly operating inside Abu Ghraib,” an Iraqi soldier told McClatchy on October 3. While U.S. warplanes strike at the militants of the so-called Islamic State in both Syria and Iraq, truckloads of U.S. and Western aid has been flowing into territory controlled by the jihadists, assisting them to build their terror-inspiring “Caliphate.” President Barack Obama is set to announce his plan to combat ISIS terrorists in Iraq and Syria by arming so-called “moderate” Syrian rebels despite the fact that such militants have openly aligned themselves with Islamic State fighters.
Almost 50 people have been killed by Syrian government air strikes in an opposition-held town, activists say. Six children were among those who died as Talbiseh, in Homs province, was bombarded for two days, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported. A dozen rebel fighters were also killed, the UK-based group added. Meanwhile, at least 15 children have died in another opposition-held area of Syria, reportedly after being given contaminated measles vaccinations. The main opposition alliance, the National Coalition, has launched an investigation and halted the vaccination programme it was organising in the northern province of Idlib. 'Terrifying massacre' The air strikes of Talbiseh reportedly began on Monday and continued into Tuesday. State media said the army had targeted a meeting of "terrorists". The death toll from the bombardment was expected to rise because bodies were still being pulled out of the rubble and dozens of people, including children, had been critically injured, the Observatory said. "Residents woke up from the massacre [on Monday] only to witness another terrifying massacre," a local activist group wrote on Facebook. The post said Talbiseh was "filled with civilians and displaced who cannot find bread to eat, chased by the shelling of regime forces". Videos purportedly of the aftermath showed a man weeping as he clutched the body of his baby son, as well as people praying over the bodies of a mother and her five children. Talbiseh is on the country's main north-south motorway about 10km (6 miles) north of the city of Homs, which had been a centre of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad. Rebel forces abandoned their last stronghold in the centre of Homs in May after more than a year of siege and bombardment. The government now controls most of Damascus, along with the motorway from the capital through to Homs and the western Mediterranean coast. Rebels control much of the north and east. Six people also were killed in a government air raid on the northern city of Aleppo on Wednesday, and another six died when the Damascus suburb of Douma was attacked by jets, the Observatory said. 'Allergic shock' It is not known what caused the children's deaths in eight opposition-held towns in Idlib province, but parents accused opposition health authorities of not storing the vaccines properly or using out-of-date medication. A doctor at a clinic in the town of Jarjanaz said the children, some just babies, had exhibited signs of "severe allergic shock" about an hour after they had been given the vaccines, with many suffocating to death as their bodies swelled. Abdullah Ajaj told the Associated Press that all had the same symptoms to varying degrees, and that it was the first time he had seen them after administering vaccinations. "There was shouting and screaming, it was hard for the parents. You get your child vaccinated and then you find your child dying, it's very hard." Opposition officials denied the allegations of negligence, saying the vaccines had come from the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), via the Turkish government. They said the same batch had been used successfully to vaccinate 60,000 children in recent days and claimed a preliminary investigation pointed to a "security breach by vandals likely connected to the regime". A Lebanon-based public health specialist, Fouad Fouad, told AP that an out-of-date vaccine was more or less harmless and "cannot cause death". The conflict in Syria and the resultant breakdown in state institutions have meant that diseases such as measles and polio have been spreading. More than 191,000 people have been killed and nine million displaced from their homes since the uprising began in 2011.

One of four clinics MSF runs for Syrian refugees, Palestinians, and local residents in the Bekaa Valley, MSF’s project in Arsal provides free health care to people who otherwise cannot access or afford it and would likely go without. Staff offers primary health care, pediatric care, chronic disease care, and maternal care, including obstetrics and gynecological services. The crowds are testament to the scope of the medical needs in the area, especially among the ever-expanding refugee population, many of them from Syrian towns and villages just over the border, a few miles away. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. Fox News 2015-03-21Syria (/ˈsɪriə/ ( listen) SIRR-ee-ə; Arabic: سورية Sūriyya or سوريا Sūryā; Syriac: ܣܘܪܝܐ; Kurdish: Sûrî), officially the Syrian Arab Republic (Arabic: الجمهورية العربية السورية al-Jumhūriyyah al-‘Arabīyah as-Sūriyyah Arabic pronunciation (help·info)), is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the West, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest.
In English, the name Syria was formerly synonymous with the Levant, known in Arabic as Sham, while the modern state encompasses the sites of several ancient kingdoms and empires, including the Eblan civilization of the third millennium BC. In the Islamic era, its capital city, Damascus, the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, was the seat of the Umayyad Caliphate, and a provincial capital of the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt.
The population of Syria is 74% Sunni, 12% Alawi, 10% Christian, and 3% Druze. Combined, 87% of the Syrian population is Muslim, while the other 10% is Christian, which includes mainly Arab Christians but also Assyrians and Armenians. Major ethnic minorities in Syria include Kurds (9%), Assyrians, Armenians, Turkmens and Circassians. The majority of the population is Arab (90%).
