Imphal (/ˈɪmpəl/, 
Imphal.ogg (help·info)) is the capital of the Indian state of Manipur.
In the heart of the town and surrounded by a moat, are ruins of the old Palace of Kangla. Kangla Fort used to be the home of the Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force and on November 2004 it was handed over to state of Manipur by Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Another place of historical interest is the Polo Ground which is the oldest existing polo ground in the world.[citation needed] Near the Polo Ground is the Manipur State Museum, which has a collection of old artifacts and pictures depicting the history of Manipur. 'Ima Keithel' at Khwairamband Bazar is the only market in the world where, as the name suggests(Ima-Mother,Keithel-Market), all the stalls are run by women.[citation needed]
In 1944 during World War II the Battle of Imphal, along with the simultaneous Battle of Kohima, was the turning point in the Burma Campaign. For the first time in the South-East Asian Theatre of World War II the Japanese lost the initiative to the Allies, who retained it until the end of the war.[citation needed]

Ode to the Loktak(Official) - Imphal Talkies

Loktak Lake is the biggest fresh water lake in North East India. This is a song written right after Operation Summer Storm in which the Indian Para Military Forces scanned the entire lake with highly sophisticated arms and ammunition which troubled the lives of many fishermen and women. Also the Manipur Govt's plan for development and tourism also has affected the lives of many fishermen and women. The state police force actually burnt down huts on Phumdis leaving many fishermen and women homeless. Here we are in solidarity with all these folks who have suffered because of this mindless sense of development and civilization.

A beautiful waterfall in Leimaram also known as the Sadu Chiru waterfall, Manipur.
Sadu Chiru Waterfall is no doubt the most popular waterfall in Manipur. In a state surrounded by mountains, one would expect lots of waterfalls like the ones in Meghalaya and Sikkim, but honestly there are not many waterfalls in Manipur. Manipur has poor and in some cases no road facilities to most remote parts of the state. The insurgency problems surface too often, that only a handful of tourists visit the state. Among all the North-East states Manipur is the least explored, you'll hardly see any foreign tourists, except for a few who visit for official purposes. There's a lot to tap from tourism, but with the Armed Forces Special Power Act still imposed and many militants groups lurking in the forest, especially along the Indo-Myanmar border, tourists don't feel safe visiting the state.
Leimaram in that sense is safe and has a road running from Imphal right up to 300m at the base of the fall. The drive from Imphal to Sadu Chiru Village was pleasant, except for a brief deviation from the main road, National Highway 150 is one of the best highways in the state. Imphal is often referred as the 'Jewel of India', after the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru gave it the title during his visit to the state. The Imphal valley is surrounded by green hills on all sides. Sadu Chiru Waterfall is at this precise point where the hills roll down into the valley.

Yelagiri is a beautiful place in southern India and is located among the hills on all sides of it. Its a beautiful hill station with pleasing environment and fine climate and the place is fabulously wonderful in the winters. Highly populated with tribals who are chiefly engaged in forestry, agriculture and horticulture along with all other occupations undertaken by the rural people.
A wonderful tourist place where one can enjoy the charms of traditional life in the lap of the mother earth. The path taking the roadway to Yelagiri is finely constructed and well punctuated with the milestones and signboards all way through. Petrol pumps are sufficient enough which makes traveling convenient and easy.
Huge plains can be seen from the ghat and visitors enjoy using their telescope for enjoying the ethnic beauty which stays spread far and wide. A little risk of the stray animals does persist but one can always enjoy a good time with the tamed ones. The difficulty which one would actually face is the lack of medication facility provided in these areas. So, when one opts for the hilly destination one is supposed to have first aid kit, so as to avoid any medical traumas.
It is a wonderful place for trekking and people generally love going trekking in these hilly areas. Full of wonderful temples on the hilly region, it makes it a wonderful place for the young and old alike. Temple bells add a special mythological essence to the bells and keeps the feeling of life alive even in times of bare silence.

A beautiful waterfall in Leimaram also known as the Sadu Chiru waterfall, Manipur. Sadu Chiru Waterfall is no doubt the most popular waterfall in Manipur. In a state surrounded by mountains, one would expect lots of waterfalls like the ones in Meghalaya and Sikkim, but honestly there are not many waterfalls in Manipur. Manipur has poor and in some cases no road facilities to most remote parts of the state. The insurgency problems surface too often, that only a handful of tourists visit the state. Among all the North-East states Manipur is the least explored, you'll hardly see any foreign tourists, except for a few who visit for official purposes. There's a lot to tap from tourism, but with the Armed Forces Special Power Act still imposed and many militants groups lurking in the forest, especially along the Indo-Myanmar border, tourists don't feel safe visiting the state. Leimaram in that sense is safe and has a road running from Imphal right up to 300m at the base of the fall. The drive from Imphal to Sadu Chiru Village was pleasant, except for a brief deviation from the main road, National Highway 150 is one of the best highways in the state. Imphal is often referred as the 'Jewel of India', after the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru gave it the title during his visit to the state. The Imphal valley is surrounded by green hills on all sides. Sadu Chiru Waterfall is at this precise point where the hills roll down into the valley.
