Bossa nova is a well-known style of Brazilian music developed and popularized in the 1950s and 1960s. The phrase bossa nova means literally "New Trend" (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈbɔsɐ ˈnɔvɐ] ( listen)) A lyrical fusion of samba and jazz, bossa nova acquired a large following in the 1960s initially from young musicians and college students. Since its birth, it remains a vital part of the standard jazz repertoire.
In Brazil, the word "bossa" is slang for doing something with particular charm, natural flair or innate ability. As early as 1932, Noel Rosa used the word in a samba:
"O samba, a prontidão e outras bossas são nossas coisas, são coisas nossas" ("The samba, the readiness and other bossas are our things, are things from us").
The exact origin of the term "bossa nova" still remains uncertain. Within the artistic beach culture of the late 1950s Rio de Janeiro, the term "bossa" was used to refer to any new "trend" or "fashionable wave". In his book Bossa Nova, Brazilian author Ruy Castro asserts that "bossa" was already in use in the 1950s by musicians as a word to characterize someone's knack for playing or singing idiosyncratically. Castro claims that the term "bossa nova" might have first been used in publicity for a concert given in 1958 by the Grupo Universitário Hebraico do Brasil (University Hebrew Group of Brazil). This group consisted of Sylvinha Telles, Carlinhos Lyra, Nara Leão, Luizinho Eça, Roberto Menescal, et al. And in 1959, Nara Leão also participated in more than one embryonic display of bossa nova. This included the 1st Festival de Samba Session, conducted by the PUC's (Pontifical Universidade Catolica) student union. (This session was then chaired by Carlos Diegues, a law student that Leão ultimately married.) While these early musicians were likely using the term "bossa nova" as a generic reference this novel musical style, the term took hold as the definition of their own specific artistic creation to this day.
Marcus Vinícius da Cruz e Mello Moraes (October 19, 1913 – July 9, 1980), known as Vinícius de Moraes (Portuguese pronunciation: [viˈnisius dʒi moˈɾajs]) and nicknamed O Poetinha (the little poet), was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Son of Lydia Cruz de Moraes and Clodoaldo Pereira da Silva Moraes, he was a seminal figure in contemporary Brazilian music. As a poet, he wrote lyrics for a great number of songs that became all-time classics. He was also a composer of bossa nova, a playwright, a diplomat and, as an interpreter of his own songs, he left several important albums.
Son of Clodoaldo da Silva Pereira Moraes - a City Hall officer, as well as poet and amateur guitar player - and Lidia Cruz - a housewife and amateur pianist - Vinicius was born in 1913 in the neighborhood of Gávea, then a rural suburb of Rio de Janeiro. In 1916, he moved with his family to various addresses at the downtown quarter of Botafogo, where he attended classes at Afrânio Peixoto Primary School. In 1920, through his maternal grandfather, he gained entrance at a Masonic lodge. In 1922, Moraes's parents, shocked at the 18 of the Copacabana Fort revolt, were to move to another suburb, Governador Island, while young Vinicius stayed at his grandfather's downtown home in order to finish primary school, going to his parents' home only at weekends and during holidays. During his visits to his folks' home, Vinicius was to get in touch with various musicians, among them the composer Bororó.
Olivia Ong (simplified Chinese: 王俪婷; traditional Chinese: 王儷婷; pinyin: Wáng Lìtíng; born 2 October 1985) is a Singaporean singer. She sings mostly in English but developed her career singing in English and Japanese. In addition, she has released rare tracks, recorded in Mandarin, and Cantonese which can be found on limited edition albums.
Likened to Seiko Matsuda, she won a singing contest and was signed to a Japanese recording company S2S Pte Ltd at the age of 15.
After taking her O-level examinations in Singapore, Ong moved to Japan to further her studies as well as her career as a solo artist. In Singapore, Ong, along with 2 other Singaporean girls formed the Japanese pop (J-pop) group, Mirai. Their first single, "Open Up Your Mind", was one of the theme songs in the Japanese anime Gensoumaden Saiyuki.
She released her bestselling début, A Girl Meets Bossa Nova at only 19. With her sultry, soulful, pristine and innocent vocals, she reinterprets Frank Sinatra's hits such as "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars", among other jazz and pop numbers. She is one of the new wave of Singaporean talent being exported internationally. So far, Ong is the only pop sensation exported exclusively to Japan; previous stars such as Mavis Hee, Kit Chan, Tanya Chua, Joi Chua, Stefanie Sun, Michelle Saram etc., have been promoted mainly in the Greater Chinese market.

Es war die Zeit wilder Partys
Jeden Samstag war irgendwas los
Ich konnt' es kaum erwarten
War vor Spannung ganz atemlos
Da war der Schwarm aller Mädchen
Und er hat mich ganz einfach gefragt
Willst du nicht mit mir tanzen
Und ich hab' den Schritt gewagt
Beim Bossa Nova Bossa Nova
War mein Herz im Sturm erobert
Hab' kein Auge zugemacht
Wir tanzten die ganze Nacht
Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova
Und er spielte Kasanova
Er hat mich nur angelacht
Schon war ich in seiner Macht
Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova
Als ich am Morgen nach Haus' kam
War ich happy und müde zugleich
Ich war total verzaubert
Denn ich hatte mein Ziel erreicht
Er sah mir tief in die Augen
Und dann hat er mich endlich gefragt
Willst du nicht mit mir gehen
Und ich hab' na klar gesagt
Beim Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova
War mein Herz im Sturm erobert
Hab' kein Auge zugemacht
Wir tanzten die ganze Nacht
Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova
Und er spielte Kassanova
Er hat mich nur angelacht
Schon war ich in seiner Macht
Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova
Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova
Beim Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova
War mein Herz im Sturm erobert
Hab' kein Auge zugemacht
let's not be friends cuz then we could never fuck haven't you figured it out by now? or are you that much of a shmuck? do whatever you want to do just don't do it around me cuz i am tired of not feeling like i'm free your dishonesty's astonishing try growing up for awhile i pour out my soul as i tell you the truth and you just nod your head and smile its like something you can't explain its life making love in the rain its like a stranger who catches your eye its like telling the perfect lie its like a sunset walk on the beach its like the lecture you just can't teach its like finally finding your fate its like seeing the girl you hate
If you say my singing is off key my love
You will hurt my feelings don't you see my love
I wish I had an ear like yours
A voice that would behave
But all I have is feelings and a voice gone deaf
You insist my music goes against the rules
Yes but rules were never made for lovesick fools
I wrote this little song for you but you don't care
It's a crooked song oh but all my heart is there
The thing that you would see if you would do your part
Is even if I'm out of tune I have a gentle heart
I took your picture with my trusty Rollaflex
And now all I have developed is a complex
Possibly in vain I hope you weaken oh my love
And forget these rigid rules that undermine my dream of
A life of love and music with someone who'll understand
That even though I may be out of tune
When I attempt to say how much I love you
All that matters is the message that I bring
Which is my key one I love you.
Well I think I hate you
Isn't this fun your gonna shoot and I darling loaded the gun
Well I think I'm done
What train did you step off of anyway
I really don't care I'm the luckiest girl
Gonna lie with you baby
Cause there's nowhere else
I can lay
I'm never talking to you again
I'll go join the marines
And then I will peacefully sail away with some safe magazines
Did you hear what I say
You can't fall down the stairs two times the same way
And I really don't care
I'm the luckiest girl
Gonna tell you I love you
More than anything else
I can see
If people were cars I'd be covered with scars
I'll hold on to my dignity
I bought this old dress to cover the mess
Please don't take it off I donÕt want you
I don't want you to see
So stop singing that song
I'll stand hard like a tree
Yeah you make me sick you red razor nick get your hot hands off me
Baby you're from the moon
Sensibility tells me that this is too soon
And I really don't care
I'm the luckiest girl
Yeah and I want you baby
More than anything else
More than anything else
