A Latin Grammy Award is an accolade by The Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry. Unlike the regular Grammy Award which primarily honors music produced in the United States, the Latin Grammy honors works produced anywhere around the world that were recorded in either Spanish or Portuguese. However, both awards have similar nominating and voting processes, in which the selections are decided by peers within the music industry.

The first annual Latin Grammys ceremony was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on September 13, 2000. Broadcast by CBS, that first ceremony became the first primarily Spanish language primetime program carried on an English-language American television network.

The 13th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will be held on November 15, 2012 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Eugenio González Derbez (born September 2, 1962) is a Mexican actor of film and comedy television. He created the television series of XHDRBZ, Vecinos, and La familia P. Luche. Derbez is also a Formula Three Auto racing driver.

Derbez was born in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico, the son of actress Silvia Derbez and publicist Eugenio González Salas. His maternal grandfather was French. Derbez developed an early childhood interest in acting. He made his television debut at twelve, acting as an extra in a telenovela. Derbez kept acting during his school years and took his first formal acting class at age 19. Derbez began his acting career in the theater. During the early 1980s, Derbez was a regular in Cachun, Cachun, Ra, Ra!, a Mexican television show. He also participated in En Familia con Chabelo, a children's television show.

In 1988 Derbez got his first recurring television position when he played a number of roles in a comedy show called "Anabel". In 1987, he briefly worked in a television series named Tal Como Somos ("Just The Way we Are"). In 1990, he played Eugenio in the comedy film Transplante a la Mexicana ("Mexican Style Transplant"). That same year he participated in Fotógrafo de Modelos ("Models Photographer"). Derbez kept making movies during the 1990s. In 1992 he began hosting the variety show Al Derecho y al Derbez.

Christopher "Cris" Brown is an Australian freestyle wrestler who competed at five Olympics from 1980 to 1996. His best result was fourth at the 1984 Olympics when he lost in the bronze medal match of the Featherweight class to South Korean Lee Jung-Keun.

Cris has also participated in Submission Wrestling and MMA matches, scoring a win over Renzo Gracie in an ADCC tournament. He currently coaches and trains at Extreme Mixed Martial Arts in Chadstone, Melbourne.

Angelique Boyer (born July 4, 1988) is a French-born Mexican actress, model, and singer. She started her career playing secondary roles in the telenovelas Rebelde, Muchachitas como tú, and Corazón Salvaje. In 2010, she was given her first protagonist role in Teresa a remake of the 1959 telenovela. In Teresa, Boyer portrays "Teresa Chávez Aguirre", a young woman who will use her beauty and ambition to escape from her impoverished life in a poor Mexico City neighborhood. Her acting and portrayal received widespread critical acclaim from critics and audiences alike, and in 2011 she won the Premios TVyNovelas "Award for Best Actress" for her work in Teresa. Boyer was included in Los 50 más bellos list of People en Español, a list of Latino celebrities chosen for their beauty. In 2012, she was given her second protagonist role in Abismo de pasión a remake of the 1996 telenovela, Cañaveral de Pasiones, starring Daniela Castro.

Boyer's full name is Angélique Monique-Paulette Boyer Rousseau and she was born in Saint-Claude, Jura, France. She has said personally that her mother, whose maiden name is "Rousseau", was born in Mexico to French parents. In 1990, Boyer's family moved to Mexico. In reference to her parents migration to Mexico; Boyer quotes "I am very thankful for my parents' decision, because it was a choice between either Spain or Mexico".

Jorge Drexler (born Jorge Abner Drexler Prada; September 21, 1964) is an Uruguayan musician, actor, and doctor specialized on otolaryngology.

In 2004 Drexler won wide acclaim after becoming the first Uruguayan ever to win an Academy Award. He won for composing the song "Al Otro Lado del Río" from The Motorcycle Diaries.

Drexler was born in Montevideo. His father, a German Jew, fled to Uruguay with his family at the age of four to escape the Holocaust. His mother is a Christian of mixed Spanish, French and Portuguese descent. Drexler was raised Jewish, but embraces Christian tradition as well.

Like much of his family, he studied medicine and became an otolaryngologist ear, nose and throat specialist. Drexler began playing piano at age five, before attending guitar and composition classes. Although he had an interest in music, he became a doctor like both of his parents. He attended medical school in Montevideo. During his time in medical school, Drexler took a break to hitchhike through Brazil.
