From the film 'Vlad Tepes' i decided to post these 2 vids showing the fighting scense of Prince Vlad III of Wallachia aka Vlad Dracula the Impaler of the Order of the Dragon against Sultan Mehmet II of the Ottoman Empire. He was nicknamed 'Vlad the Impaler' because of the 20,000 Turkish prisoners & other 1000s of Bulgarians he Impaled on pikes. Vlad was known & feared for his cruelty & nightraids harassing the Ottomans, even entering the Turkish camp dressed as a Turk in an attempt to kill the sultan & causing panic by burning their tents & equipment.

For eight centuries, the conquest of Constantinople, now Istanbul, Turkey, was a dream for the Muslim commanders. Ever since the era of the revered companion, Mu`aawiyah Ibn Abu Sufyaan, there had been many attempts to conquer it, but none had succeeded.
Every Muslim commander wanted to be the conqueror praised in the narration in which the Prophet said: "You will conquer Constantinople. Its commander is the best and its army (that will conquer it) is the best."
Muhammad Al-Fatih was born on 27th Rajab, 835 A.H., 30th March, 1432. He was a committed Muslim who abode by the rulings of Islamic jurisprudence. Because of the way he was brought up, he was a pious man.
Muhammad Al-Faatih managed to realize his dreams through hard, continuous work, and well-organized planning. For example, before besieging Constantinople, he prepared for the war by making cannons, preparing his fleet, and making use of all the factors that might render him victorious.
Through high ambition, determination, and the effort to achieve his goals, he managed to materialize his dream, make his hope an existing reality which made him one of the great Muslim heroes and conquerors.
Muhammad Al-Fatih attained this victory when he was twenty three years old. This indicated his early military genius. He also deserved the glad tidings of the Prophet who foretold that a good person would conquer that city.

Muhammad Al-Fatih was born on 27th Rajab, 835 A.H., 30th March, 1432. He was a committed Muslim who abode by the rulings of Islamic jurisprudence. Because of the way he was brought up, he was a pious man.
Muhammad Al-Faatih managed to realize his dreams through hard, continuous work, and well-organized planning. For example, before besieging Constantinople, he prepared for the war by making cannons, preparing his fleet, and making use of all the factors that might render him victorious.
Through high ambition, determination, and the effort to achieve his goals, he managed to materialize his dream, make his hope an existing reality which made him one of the great Muslim heroes and conquerors.
Muhammad Al-Fatih attained this victory when he was twenty three years old. This indicated his early military genius. He also deserved the glad tidings of the Prophet who foretold that a good person would conquer that city.

Hoy os traigo la reseña del libro “Mehmed II, el conquistador de Bizancio” de André Clot, ejemplar dedicado a narrar la tempestuosa vida del sultán al que su pueblo conoció con el nombre de El Conquistador (Fatih Mehmed) por el hecho más relevante de su beligerante reinado: la toma de Constantinopla en 1453 que supuso el punto y final a más de milenio y medio de Imperio romano. Aprende la fascinante historia de un soberano que, al inicio de su reinado, contaba con todos los elementos necesarios para ser un gobernante fallido y al que todos sus enemigos minusvaloraron como un regente incapaz. Mehmed II hizo que lloraran sangre por su crítico error de cálculo ya que, a su muerte, había arrinconado a todos sus estados vecinos, tanto occidentales (cristianos) como orientales (musulmanes).

Bizans İmparatorluğu sadece İstanbul’da sıkışıp kalmış,parti ve mezhep mücadeleleriyle uğraşıyordu.Avrupa’dan destek sağlamak için imparator Konstantin,Ortodokslarla Katoliklerin birleşmesini savunuyordu.Ancak IV.Haçlı seferinde Avrupalıları iyi tanıyan Bizans halkı bu birleşmeye karşı çıkıyor ve “İstanbul’da kardinal külahı görmektense ,Osmanlı sarığı görmeyi tercih ederiz” diyorlardı.Karadan ve denizden kuşatılması gereken İstanbul’un konumu ve güçlü surları İmparatora cesaret veriyordu.Ayrıca suda bile yanan Rum ateşi (Grejuva) şimdiye kadar İstanbul’un alınamamasında etkili olmuştur.
Ayrıca İmparator şehri savunmak için bir takım tedbirler aldı.Surları onarttı.Haliçin ağzını zincirle kapattı.Halkın büyük bir kısmını silahlandırdı.Diğer taraftan da Avrupa devletlerinden yardım istedi.

1-Anadolu Hisarı’nın (Güzelcehisar) karşısına Rumeli Hisarı (Boğazkesen) yaptırıldı.
2-İstanbul’u denizden kuşatmak için 400 parçalık güçlü bir donanma hazırlandı.
3-Edirne’de büyük kuşatma topları döktürüldü.
4-İstanbul yakınlarındaki Silivri ve Vize kaleleri alındı.
5-Surlara tırmanmayı kolaylaştırmak için tekerlekli kuleler yaptırıldı.
İstanbul’un Fethi (Kuşatma 53 gün sürdü)
Yapılan hazırlıklar yaklaşık 2 yıl sürdü.6 Nisan sabahı hem karadan hem denizden kuşatma başladı.Fatih,İmparatora elçi göndererek şehrin teslimini istedi.Ancak İmparator Konstantin surlara ve Avrupa’dan gelecek yardımlara güvenerek bunu kabul etmedi.Bunun üzerine 18 Nisan’da ilk hücum emri verildi.20 Nisan’da da ilk deniz Savaşı yapıldı.Bizans tarafından Haliç girişi zincirlerle kapatıldığı için donanma Haliç’e giremedi.Bunun üzerine 21/22 Nisan gecesi 72 gemi kızaklarla Haliç’e indirildi.
Nihayet 29 Mayıs Salı günü İstanbul fethedildi.Surlara ilk bayrağı diken Ulubatlı Hasan şehit edildi.Ancak arkadan gelen kuvvetler surları aşarak İstanbul’a girmişlerdir.Halkın serbest olduğu ve mallarının güvence altında olduğu ilan edildi.

Mehmed II or Mehmed the Conqueror (30 March 1432 -- 3 May 1481) (Ottoman Turkish: محمد ثانى, Meḥmed-i s̠ānī; Turkish: II. Mehmet Turkish pronunciation: [mɛːmɛt]; also known as el-Fātiḥ, الفاتح, "the Conqueror" in Ottoman Turkish; in modern Turkish, Fatih Sultan Mehmet; also called Mahomet II in early modern Europe) was Sultan of the Ottoman Empire twice, first for a short time from 1444 to September 1446, and later from February 1451 to 1481. At the age of 21, he conquered Constantinople and brought an end to the Byzantine Empire, transforming the Ottoman state into an empire. Mehmed continued his conquests in Asia, with the Anatolian reunification, and in Europe, as far as Bosnia and Croatia. Mehmed II is regarded as a national hero in Turkey, and among other things, Istanbul's Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and Fatih University and Fatih College are all named after him.
Mehmed II was born on 30 March 1432, in Edirne, then the capital city of the Ottoman state. His father was Sultan Murad II (1404--51) and his mother Valide Sultan Hüma Hatun, born in the town of Devrekani, Kastamonu.
When Mehmed II was eleven years old he was sent to Amasya to govern and thus gain experience, as per the custom of Ottoman rulers before his time. After Murad II made peace with the Karaman Emirate in Anatolia in August 1444, he abdicated the throne to his 12-year-old son Mehmed II. Sultan Murad II had sent him a number of teachers for him to study under.
This Islamic education had a great impact in molding the mindset of Mehmed and reinforcing his Muslim beliefs. He began to praise and promote the application of Sharia law. He was influenced in his practice of Islamic epistemology by contemporaneous practitioners of science - particularly by his mentor, Molla Gürani - and he followed their approach. The influence of Ak Şemseddin in Mehmed's life became predominant from a young age, especially in the imperative of fulfilling his Islamic duty to overthrow the Byzantine empire by conquering Constantinople.
In his first reign, he defeated the crusade led by János Hunyadi after the Hungarian incursions into his country broke the conditions of the truce Peace of Szeged. Cardinal Julian Cesarini, the representative of the pope, had convinced the king of Hungary that breaking the truce with Muslims was not a betrayal. At this time Mehmed II asked his father Murad II to reclaim the throne, but Murad II refused. Angry at his father, who had long since retired to a contemplative life in southwestern Anatolia, Mehmed II wrote, "If you are the Sultan, come and lead your armies. If I am the Sultan I hereby order you to come and lead my armies." It was only after receiving this letter that Murad II led the Ottoman army and won the Battle of Varna in 1444.
Murad II's return to the throne was forced by Çandarlı Halil Paşa, the grand vizier at the time, who was not fond of Mehmed II's rule, because Mehmed II's influential lala (royal teacher), Akşemseddin, had a rivalry with Çandarlı. Çandarlı was later executed by Mehmed II during the siege of Constantinople on the grounds that he had been bribed by or had somehow helped the defenders
When Mehmed II ascended the throne in 1451 he devoted himself to strengthening the Ottoman Navy, and in the same year made preparations for the taking of Constantinople. In the narrow Bosporus Straits, the fortress Anadoluhisarı had been built by his great-grandfather Bayezid I on the Asian side; Mehmed erected an even stronger fortress called Rumelihisarı on the European side, and thus having complete control of the strait. Having completed his fortresses, Mehmet proceeded to levy a toll on ships passing within reach of their cannon. A Venetian vessel refusing signals to stop was sunk with a single shot and all the surviving sailors beheaded.
The conquest of Constantinople was one of the major goals of Islam in Islamic tradition. Reference is made to the prospective conquest of Constantinople in an authentic hadith, attributed to a saying of the Prophet Muhammad.
" Verily you shall conquer Constantinople. What a wonderful leader will he be, and what a wonderful army will that army be! "
Earlier there had been two sieges during the 7th and 8th centuries by the Muslims on account of the hadith. One of the Muslim martyrs was Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, the companion and standard bearer of the Prophet Mohammad. During the siege his tomb was located by Mehmed's sheikh Akşemseddin. After the conquest, Mehmed built Eyüp Sultan Mosque at the site, by which he wanted to emphasize the importance of the conquest to the Islamic world and highlight his role as ghazi.
