(G-TCBB) Boeing 757-236 smooth takeoff from Gatwick and a turbulent approach with amazing RB211 engine sound before landing into Corfu. A flight video including the taxi, takeoff, approach and landing of TCX3008 to Kerkyra, Corfu. A faultless flight on board one of Thomas Cook's respected Boeing 757-200 aircraft in the Egypt 'Where it all begins' livery, a few months before they are withdrawn from the fleet. The flight was short and enjoyable, just a shame about the poor legroom, but it's not anything too great of concern for a flight with a duration of just under 3 hours. This is the second time I have flown on this particular aircraft (Bravo Bravo / G-TCBB) If you haven't already and wouldn't mind watching, you can check out my flight to Palma, Mallorca from Manchester back in April. The flight was more or less full with around 230 passengers on board, and we were tankering - carrying extra fuel - of about 9 tonnes extra than we required on the flight. This fuel was used for the return sector which saves money for the company since the fuel prices are higher in Greece. Carrying the amount of fuel needed to go to the Canary Islands or Turkey, we were heavier than usual and therefore required more thrust on takeoff. After push back, it was a short taxi out to runway 26L and from the holding point to takeoff, I was surprised by the amount of times the engines were spooled up and idled constantly before takeoff. Great RB211 sound echoed through the cabin on departure with the distinct sound of rattling as we rolled down the runway and lifted off the ground. It was an interesting departure using the ADMAG1X SID which really brought out the sounds from the engines for quite some time before we climbed to the cruising altitude of 33 then 35000ft.Routing took us across the English Channel into Belgium across through to Germany and Austria, where there were some brilliant views of the alps mountain range near Innsbruck. After Austria, we made a left turn in Italy to follow the Adriatic sea past Croatia and Albania before descent into Corfu. Descent was initiated quite late and therefore meant that the aircraft was in a steeper descent rate than usual, the speed breakers were deployed for a large proportion of the descent. After passing Corfu, following the PITAS2J arrival, a series of turns and holds were made to help lose altitude and speed. However, just as we made the final turn to line up, a lot of speed was lost since we were over 9 tonnes over the usual landing rate. This caused the autothrottle to output a crazy amount of thrust from the engines, almost reaching go-around conditions! It certainly caused a few problems since we were closing in on the airport quite fast. Notice how the throttles we closed to idle pretty much straight after the thrust input. However the sound was absolutely incredible! Check it out at 45:00. The landing was smooth on runway 35 with full reverse thrust to slow down. Something that I haven't heard in a while is people clapping after landing, to be honest It's not something I like and I'm not sure why people do it. They are always flying, pretty much every day for the airline. Before TCBB took us to Corfu, it had only arrived from Dalaman at 4.30AM and continued for a flight to Las Palmas after it's return to Gatwick. You can see that they are getting old from the inside and rattle on takeoff but, they still do a brilliant job for the airline!
