Tahiti is the largest island in the Windward group of French Polynesia, located in the archipelago of the Society Islands in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is the economic, cultural and political centre of French Polynesia. The island was formed from volcanic activity and is high and mountainous with surrounding coral reefs. The population is 178,133 (2007 census), making it the most populous island of French Polynesia and accounting for 68.6% of the group's total population. Tahiti was formerly known as Otaheite.
The capital, Papeete, is located on the northwest coast with the only international airport in the region, Faa'a International Airport, situated 5 km (3.1 mi) from the town centre. Tahiti was originally settled by Polynesians between CE 300 and 800. They comprise about 70% of the island's population with the rest made up of Europeans, Chinese and those of mixed heritage. The island was proclaimed a colony of France in 1880 although it was not until 1946 that the indigenous Tahitians were legally authorised to be French citizens. French is the only official language although the Tahitian language (Reo Tahiti) is widely spoken. It was part of the Kingdom of Tahiti until its annexation by France in 1880.

Colbie Marie Caillat (i/ˈkoʊlbi kəˈleɪ/; born May 28, 1985) is an American pop singer-songwriter and acoustic guitarist from Malibu, California. She debuted in 2007 with Coco, which included hit singles "Bubbly" and "Realize". In 2008, she recorded a duet with Jason Mraz, "Lucky", which won a Grammy. Caillat released her second album, Breakthrough, in August 2009. Breakthrough was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2010 Grammy Awards. Caillat was born in Malibu, California, and grew up in Newbury Park, California. Her father, Ken Caillat, co-produced Fleetwood Mac's Rumours (1977) and Tusk (1979) albums. When she was an infant, her parents gave her the nickname "Coco", which she would later name her debut album. Caillat took piano lessons as a child, but lacked significant inspiration until she turned 11 years old, when she became enthralled with Lauryn Hill's performance in Sister Act 2. She realized that she wanted to be a singer, and began taking vocal lessons, performing onstage for the first time in sixth grade. Since then she has covered the Roberta Flack song that Lauryn Hill immortalized, "Killing Me Softly", and Hill's own[citation needed] "Tell Him" (an import bonus song from her solo debut album).
Tahiti land of love o sweetest paradise where palms whisper softly to me
My hart verlang terug geluk wag op my daar aan haar wil ek my liefde openbaar
I remember oh so well when first we met the song of the palms I can't forget
Community saw the best in me
Exchanging the common heart for the salt in the sea
Children of the sun on a highway of hope
The beauty of coming together
In sorrow
Tahiti we don't got no name
Tahiti we don't got no home
Tahiti we don't got no money
Tahiti we don't got no
Honey
But we do the dishes, we make the bread
We are powdered ashes in the light of the beauty
He said
Wear those dark glasses to help us see
Hot tears rolling down and our arms are knitted
Creatures of the night on a highway of hope
And the beauty that we'll leave each other
Tomorrow
Tahiti we don't got no name
Tahiti we don't got no home
Tahiti we don't got no money
Tahiti we don't got no
Chorus 1:
Tahiti, I have loved your sunny rain and your rainbows.
Tahiti, all your flowers sweet and cool when the rain goes;
And the hum of happy people on the island,
And the drumming of the seas upon the reef.
Tahiti, Tahiti, Tahiti.
Where the mountains reach up high to touch the heavens,
And the heavens wander low to kiss the sea.
Chorus 2:
Tahiti, I have loved your sunny rain and your rainbows.
Tahiti, all your flowers sweet and cool when the rain goes;
And the hum of happy people on the island,
And the drumming of the seas upon the reef.
Tahiti, Tahiti, Tahiti.
Where the mountains reach up high to touch the heavens,
And the heavens wander low to kiss the sea;
Tahiti, you're all this to me.
