Today, Craig is going to finish up our discussion of the First Amendment with freedom of the press. Like an individual's right to free speech, the press has a right, and arguably responsibility, to tell the public what the government is doing. But of course there are some complications in doing so, like if that information will compromise national security or wrongfully discredit an individual. When considering Edward Snowden's NSA disclosures or Julian Assange's Wikileaks, it's just as important as ever to understand the role of the press in informing the public as well as our role as citizens in staying informed.

Video shot by Mark Schierbecker--- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S3yMzEee18 --COLUMBIA, Mo. — A video that showed University of Missouri protesters restricting a student photographer’s access to a public area of campus on Monday has ignited discussions about press freedom. Video shows Tim Tai, a student photographer on freelance assignment for ESPN trying to take photos of a small tent city that protesters had created on a campus quad. Concerned Student 1950, an activist group that formed to push for increased awareness and action around racial issues on campus, did not want reporters near the encampment. The video also shows Melissa Click, an assistant professor of mass media at the University of Missouri, ordered a journalist to leave an area where demonstrators had gathered on campus.
Click shouted "I Need Some Muscle" to rally students to forcibly remove journalist Mark Schierbecker from the public space.
Protesters blocked Mr. Tai’s view and argued with him, eventually pushing him away. At one point, they chanted, “Hey hey, ho ho, reporters have got to go.”
“I am documenting this for a national news organization,” Mr. Tai told the protesters, adding that “the First Amendment protects your right to be here and mine.”
The protesters accused him of acting unethically and disregarding their requests for privacy.
“What is so hard about respecting our wishes?” one protester asked.
“Because I have a job to do,” Mr. Tai answered. That elicited a retort: “We don’t care about your job.”

Freedom of the press or freedom of the media is the freedom of communication and expression through vehicles including various electronic media and published materials. While such freedom mostly implies the absence of interference from an overreaching state, its preservation may be sought through constitutional or other legal protections.
With respect to governmental information, any government may distinguish which materials are public or protected from disclosure to the public based on classification of information as sensitive, classified or secret and being otherwise protected from disclosure due to relevance of the information to protecting the national interest. Many governments are also subject to sunshine laws or freedom of information legislation that are used to define the ambit of national interest.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference, and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers"

Like an individual's right to free speech, the press has a right, and arguably responsibility, to tell the public what the government is doing. Video shows Tim Tai, a student photographer on freelance assignment for ESPN trying to take photos of a small tent city that protesters had created on a campus quad. Concerned Student 1950, an activist group that formed to push for increased awareness and action around racial issues on campus, did not want reporters near the encampment. The video also shows Melissa Click, an assistant professor of mass media at the University of Missouri, ordered a journalist to leave an area where demonstrators had gathered on campus.
Click shouted "I Need Some Muscle" to rally students to forcibly remove journalist Mark Schierbecker from the public space.
Protesters blocked Mr. Tai’s view and argued with him, eventually pushing him away. At one point, they chanted, “Hey hey, ho ho, reporters have got to go.”
“I am documenting this for a national news organization,” Mr. Tai told the protesters, adding that “the First Amendment protects your right to be here and mine.”
The protesters accused him of acting unethically and disregarding their requests for privacy.
“What is so hard about respecting our wishes?” one protester asked.
“Because I have a job to do,” Mr. Tai answered. That elicited a retort: “We don’t care about your job.”

India is the world’s largest democracy, with a population of more than one point two billion people. It’s also an incredibly diverse place where people speak more than one hundred different languages.
The media environment in India reflects its diversity. There are 90,000 different print publications and more than 700 television stations and there is vibrant debate and criticism of government policies.
But on a number of fronts, the freedom of expression and freedom of the press is facing threats in the world’s second most populous country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Hindu-nationalist party have accused three television companies of violating broadcasting regulations for their reporting on a terrorism case. Books deemed offensive to Hinduism have been pulled from book shelves and authors threatened. Journalists routinely face threats, particularly in the countryside. At least six have been killed this year, according to the International Federation of Journalists.
On this edition of Global Journalist, a look inside India’s ongoing struggle with press freedom, and how things look for the future.

On Wednesday a Thai resident captured a video of his encounter with a giant reptile, who was knocking on his door trying to get into his house. Attanai Thaiyuanwong found this huge lizard trying to make his way into his place and within no time shared the photos of it on Facebook....
