Kevin Schürer, a genealogist and head of research at Leicester University, whose work with King on the ancestor is published this week in Nature Communications, said the results on the Y chromosomes, handed only from father to son, did not change history. “This is not a criminal investigation,” he said, pointing out that the Tudors took the crown because they killed Richard at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, not because they could prove the blood royal flowed through their veins.
However the Tudors did back up their claim to the throne through descent from John of Gaunt, son of Edward III and father of Henry IV – and ancestor of the Tudor dynasty through his legitimised Beaufort children after he married his mistress Katherine Swynford.
Although the Queen is descended from the Hanoverian kings, imported 300 years ago when the Stuart line failed with the death of the childless Queen Anne in 1714 and the Act of Settlement ensured that only Protestants could take the throne, the blood lines are entangled.

Founded by Ernest Anton, the sixth duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, it is the royal house of several European monarchies, and branches currently reign in Belgium through the descendants of Leopold I, and in the Commonwealth realms through the descendants of Prince Albert. Due to anti-German sentiment in the United Kingdom during World War I, George V of the United Kingdom changed the name of his branch from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to Windsor in 1917. The same happened in Belgium where it was changed to "van België" (Dutch) or "de Belgique" (French).

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II 63 years, the longest-ruling monarchy with German Blood DNA
A recent discovery in August 2012, of King Richard III dead body, was found under a car park in Leicester. The search was initiated by the Looking for Richard project with the support of the Richard III Society.
He was the last English king of the House of York and the last of the Plantagenet dynasty, who was killed in battle of the Wars of the Roses in 1485.
Preliminary DNA analysis showed that mitochondrial DNA extracted from the bones matched that of two matrilineal descendants, one 17th-generation and the other 19th-generation, of Richard's sister Anne of York.
The DNA confirmed that the current royal Dynasty does not have a British royal bloodline, and that Queen Elizabeth II did not descended from previous Tudor or Plantagenet kings and queens.
So where did the current British queen come from?
She was born in London, served as a mechanic in the war and prefers dogs to humans. How much more British could Her Majesty be?
The obvious place to start is the family tree, although unfolding it is enough to make even the most seasoned genealogist reach for a stiff drink. Yet what comes across very clearly — and very quickly — is that there is a lot of German in it.
There is no real starting point, but we may as well begin with 1714. At the age of 54, after the death of Queen Anne died, and her direct Stuart line came to an end.
Although over fifty Roman Catholics bore closer blood relationships to Anne, the Act of Settlement 1701 prohibited Catholics from inheriting the British throne; George was Anne's closest living Protestant relative.
They were passed over, and in the end Georg Ludwig, the Protestant Prince Elector of Hanover, our royal house changed from Stuart to Brunswick-Luneburg-Hanover, bringing with it a wealth of connections to the ancient royal houses of Welf and Este.
Until recently, members of the Royal Family had no surname. They customarily used first names and the name of their house, which was inherited from the father (Richard the Lionheart was a Plantagenet, Henry VIII was a Tudor, George I was a Hanover).
Accordingly, the House of Hanover ended with Queen Victoria, and her descendants took the dynastic name of her husband, Prince Albert, which was also German: Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
How German is the Queen?
House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha is a German dynasty, the line of the Saxon House of Wettin that ruled the Ernestine duchies including the duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
Later, as a result of the First World War (1914–18), the empires of his first cousins Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany fell while the British Empire expanded to its greatest effective extent.
In 1917, the House of Windsor, was founded by King George V by royal proclamation. George became the first monarch of the House of Windsor, when he renamed the British Royal Family from the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha as a result of anti-German public sentiment in the British Empire during World War I.
After the war, Philip was granted permission by George VI to marry Elizabeth in 1947. Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, took British citizenship and became a naturalised British subject, adopting the surname Mountbatten from his maternal grandparents.
This "hidden surname" derives from the German town of Battenberg, in Hesse. Prince Louis of Battenberg Anglicised his surname to Mountbatten (its literal English translation) during the First World War at the request of King George V.
Just before the wedding, the King granted him the style of "His Royal Highness" and the title Duke of Edinburgh. His wife made him a prince of the United Kingdom in 1957.
Through a British Order in Council issued in 1960, descendants of Philip Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth II can use the surname of Mountbatten-Windsor, and is the personal surname of some of their descendants.
It is, in fact, worth remembering that the word “English” is derived from the Angles, of Anglo-Saxon fame. When the Romans cleared out of Britain in AD 410, a range of German, Danish, and Dutch tribes that we sloppily call the Anglo-Saxons moved in from across the Whale Road. That’s not forgetting the Vikings either, who brought Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish blood to swathes of Britain. So, to be honest, if we scrutinise the Royal Family’s connections with the Fatherland, we should take a long look at our own, too, and acknowledge that this country has had the most profound and close genetic and cultural ties with the people of Germany and Scandinavia for over 1,500 years.

The Moor of Coburg -- US President Barack Obama suffers embarrassing royal toast mishap at Queen's banquet - The Telegraph 25 May 2011 -- Barack Obama suffered an awkward moment during a banquet at Buckingham Palace when he broke royal protocol by speaking over the national anthem. The US President had just begun proposing a toast to the Queen when the orchestra accidentally struck up God Save The Queen.
However, rather than pause and continue the speech after the music had stopped, Mr Obama pressed on only to be rebuffed when he raised his glass to the monarch.
The Queen did not seem to take offence at the mishap and appeared to stifle an embarrassed smile.
Protocol demands that people stand to attention when the national anthem is played.

Anyone traveling in Coburg will encounter the Coburg Moor, who is on the city arms and is the patron saint of the city. Saint Mauritius from Egypt was portrayed as a Moor by the artists of the middle ages. The oldest impression of the city seal with Mauritius dates back to the year 1521.
Saint Mauritius was portrayed for the first time in Magdeburg in a statue mistakenly with Negroid features. This portrayal was maintained and turned Saint Mauritius from Thebes in Egypt into the Moor's head of Coburg.

On May 18th, 1965 – twenty years after the end of WW2 – Queen Elisabeth II visited the British occupation sector of West-Berlin, a free city and political enclave surrounded by East Berlin and East Germany that existed between 1949 and 1990. It comprised the western regions of Berlin, which were bordered by East Berlin and parts of East Germany. West Berlin consisted of the American, British, and French occupation sectors, which had been established in 1945.
It was politically closely affiliated with, though not part of, West Germany. It had a special status because its administration was formally conducted by the Western Allies. East Berlin consisted of the region occupied and administered by the Soviet Union, and was claimed as its capital by East Germany. The Western Allies did not recognise this claim, as they asserted that the entire city of Berlin was legally under four-power administration. The Berlin Wall, built in 1961, physically divided East and West Berlin until it fell in 1989.

The Allied powers who defeated Nazi Germany in World War II asserted governmental authority over all territory of the German Reich which lay west of the Oder–Neisse line, having formally abolished the German government of Adolf Hitler. (See 1945 Berlin Declaration.)

By the Berlin Declaration of June 5, 1945, (officially the "Declaration regarding the defeat of Germany and the assumption of supreme authority with respect to Germany by the Governments of the United States of America, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the United Kingdom and the Provisional Government of the French Republic"), the Allies of World War II assumed "supreme authority" over German territory and basic administrative issues were addressed:
The declaration confirmed the complete legal dissolution the the Third Reich at the death of Adolf Hitler, but the continued existence of a German national territory as at 31 December 1937 (though subject to the exclusion the eastern territories to be incorporated into Poland and the Soviet Union); and the division of Allied-occupied Germany into four occupation zones according to the Yalta Conference. The text of the declaration was that of the German Instrument of Surrender agreed by the European Advisory Commission on 28 July 1944, but not including the 'dismemberment clause' proposed as being added to the agreed surrender instrument at Yalta..[1]

Queen Elisabeth II. visiting West-Berlin 1965

The people we elect aren’t the ones calling the shots, says Tufts University’s Michael Glennon -- By Jordan Michael Smith October 19, 2014
The voters who put Barack Obama in office expected some big changes. From the NSA’s warrantless wiretapping to Guantanamo Bay to the Patriot Act, candidate Obama was a defender of civil liberties and privacy, promising a dramatically different approach from his predecessor.
How exactly has double government taken hold? And what can be done about it? Glennon spoke with Ideas from his office at Tufts’ Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. This interview has been condensed and edited.
IDEAS: Where does the term “double government” come from?
GLENNON:It comes from Walter Bagehot’s famous theory, unveiled in the 1860s. Bagehot was the scholar who presided over the birth of the Economist magazine—they still have a column named after him. Bagehot tried to explain in his book “The English Constitution” how the British government worked. He suggested that there are two sets of institutions. There are the “dignified institutions,” the monarchy and the House of Lords, which people erroneously believed ran the government. But he suggested that there was in reality a second set of institutions, which he referred to as the “efficient institutions,” that actually set governmental policy. And those were the House of Commons, the prime minister, and the British cabinet.
IDEAS: What evidence exists for saying America has a double government?

Due to anti-German sentiment in the United Kingdom during World War I, George V of the United Kingdom changed the name of his branch from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to Windsor in 1917. The same happened in Belgium where it was changed to "van België" (Dutch) or "de Belgique" (French).

I can't believe there are people in the Western world who think monarchy is still acceptable. This woman's presence in this chamber is a slap in the face to all notions of freedom and democracy. Young Brits really need to can this shit.

+AngryPenguin27 The UK is a constitutional monarchy. Policymakers in the House of Commons are elected, which is what makes the UK a de facto democracy, in the same way as the Kingdoms of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. All of which are democratic and modern, free nations. You haven't stated any real problem that's caused by the fact we have a monarchy.

Luise of Tuscany (2 December 1870 in Salzburg – 23 March 1947 in Brussels) (Luise Antoinette Maria Theresia Josepha Johanna Leopoldine Caroline Ferdinande Alice Ernestine, Princess Imperial and Archduchess of Austria, Princess of Tuscany, Hungary and Bohemia) was a daughter of Ferdinand IV of Tuscany and his second wife, Alice of Bourbon-Parma.
In Vienna on 21 November 1891, she married Prince Frederick Augustus of Saxony who later became Crown Prince. They had seven children. Luise was very popular in Saxony. However, she did not follow etiquette at the court, which resulted in arguments with her father-in-law, King George of Saxony.
On 9 December 1902 Luise fled from Dresden due to her father-in-law threatening to have her interned in Sonnestein Mental Asylum for life. She left Saxony without her children, but pregnant with her youngest daughter, Anna. For a while, she lived with her children's French tutor, André Giron, who was wrongly believed to be the father of her youngest daughter, Anna.
She was divorced from her husband on 11 February 1903 by the royal decree of her father-in-law. On 25 September 1907, Luise married the Italian musician Enrico Toselli in London. They had one son, Carlo Emanuele Toselli (7 May 1908 – 1969), and were divorced five years later.
After her second marriage that, Emperor Franz Josef, as head of the House of Habsburg, stripped her of her imperial titles and dignities. Her father created her Countess of Montignoso, as sovereign of the former Grand Duchy of Tuscany. After protracted negotiations, Anna was sent to Dresden to live with her siblings and be raised as a member of the Saxon royal house. Luise had tried to return to Dresden, but was prevented from seeing her children by her husband's ministers. She was allowed to see them on a private visit to a Saxon embassy.
In 1911, Luise broke her silence and published a memoir blaming her disgrace on her late father-in-law and Saxon politicians, whom she claimed feared that when she became queen, she would use her influence to dismiss them from office.
After the Habsburg monarchy collapsed in 1918, Luise called herself "Comtesse d'Ysette", a title with even less legitimacy than the one her father had given her. Her former husband, the ex-King of Saxony, never remarried, as he believed in the eyes of the Roman Catholic Church that he was still married to Luise.
She died in Brussels and her urn is in the Erdlinge Church in Sigmaringen.
