- Sergey Kovalev Media Call -
TstreeT joins in on the final media call for Hopkins vs Kovalev. This call focuses on new WBA, IBF, and WBO Light Heavyweight Champion Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev(26-0-1 23kos) his promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events Boxing Promotions and his trainer John David Jackson.
- Hopkins vs Kovalev Post Fight Press Conference -
TstreeT speaks with the trainer Sergey Kovalev John David Jackson following Kovalev's victory over Bernard Hopkins on November 8, 2014 in Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
At 49 years old only one question remains for the legendary Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins(55-7-2 32kos). Will he finally retire? On HBO Championship Boxing November 8, 2014 in Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey Hopkins was defeated by feared Russian power-puncher Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev(26-0-1 23kos) via landslide unanimous decision.
Hopkins was down once in round 1 and demonstrated one of the strongest chins in boxing at nearly 50. Judges scored the fight 120-106, 120-107, and 120-107 all for Kovalev. After the round one knockdown Hopkins visibly became defense oriented.
Kovalev is now the unified WBO, IBF, and WBA Super World Light-Heavyweight Champion and answered many questions about his conditioning if the fight had to go the distance. Kovalev has never made it past round 8 and many felt that would be his downfall. However, Kovalev who trained in Big Bear strictly for conditioning looked phenomenal and left no doubt about stamina.
Now just one title remains for Kovalev to reach the prestigious status of being undisputed champion. Adonis “Superman” Stevenson(24-1 20kos) currently hold the coveted WBC title, “the green belt”. Stevenson has clearly showed that he wants no parts of Kovalev as Stevenson is billed to face ranked but relatively unknown Dmitry Sukhotsky(22-2 16kos) on Showtime Championship Boxing December 19, 2014. If Kovalev was viewed to be just a power-puncher he showed much more on what maybe the highest rated boxing event of 2014.
On the co-feature Sadam “World Kid” Ali(21-0 13kos) won the WBO Inter-Continental 147-pound Welterweight title scoring a major TKO over the heavy-punching Luis Carlos Abregu(36-2 29kos) in the final round. Ali promoted by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions is now a step closer to getting a shot against current WBO Welterweight Champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao who will be facing Chris “The Professor” Algieri(20-0 8kos) LIVE on HBO PPV in Macau, China November 22, 2014.
