How to Be is an award-winning independent comedy/drama feature film written and directed by Oliver Irving. It is about a young man named Art, played by Robert Pattinson, who is going through a quarter-life crisis.
Pattinson received the 'Best Actor in a Feature' award for his portrayal of Art, at the Strasbourg International Film Festival, in Strasbourg, France in September 2008.
Art (Robert Pattinson) is not talented, but aspires to be a musician. He has a dead-end job at a supermarket, despite having a degree (which he doesn't seem to value much). His girlfriend ends their relationship. Art is then forced to move back home with his cold and neglectful parents (played by Rebecca Pidgeon and Michael Irving). Art buys a book titled, It's Not Your Fault. Upon reading it, he tries to follow the self-help book's advice. He decides to use inheritance money to first buy a car, and then pay for a Canadian therapist, Dr. Levi Ellington (Powell Jones), the book's author, to come to his home in England and help Art get his life on track, about which his parents are less than thrilled.
In linguistics, a copula (plural: copulas or copulae) is a word used to link the subject of a sentence with a predicate (a subject complement). The word copula derives from the Latin noun for a link or tie that connects two different things.
A copula is often a verb or a verb-like word, though this is not universally the case. A verb that is a copula is sometimes called a copulative or copular verb. In English primary education grammar courses, a copula is often called a linking verb. Other copulas show more resemblances to pronouns. This is the case for Classical Chinese and Guarani, for instance. In highly synthetic languages, copulas are often suffixes, attached to a noun, that may still behave otherwise like ordinary verbs, for example -u- in Inuit languages. In some other languages, such as Beja and Ket, the copula takes the form of suffixes that attach to a noun but are distinct from the person agreement markers used on predicative verbs. This phenomenon is known as nonverbal person agreement or nonverbal subject agreement and the relevant markers are always established as deriving from cliticised independent pronouns.
Marina Lambrini Diamandis (Greek: Μαρίνα-Λαμπρινή Διαμάντη, pronounced [ðʝaˈmadi]; born 10 October 1985), better known by her stage name Marina and the Diamonds (sometimes stylised as Marina & the Diamonds), is a Welsh singer-songwriter. She rose to fame after reaching number two on the BBC Sound of 2010 poll list, coming second to Ellie Goulding. After releasing one private EP, Diamandis released her second extended play, The Crown Jewels EP, with help from Neon Gold Records, in 2009. Now signed to 679 Recordings, she released her debut full length studio album, The Family Jewels, followed by her third extended play, The American Jewels EP, in 2010. In 2011, Diamandis announced that she was working on her second album, Electra Heart, which was released in April 2012 and went to #1 in the UK and Ireland.
Her stage name, "Marina and the Diamonds", consists of Diamandis' first name and the translation of her surname which means "Diamonds" in Greek. Although "The Diamonds" is often mistakenly believed to refer to her backing band, it in fact refers to Diamandis' fans: she explains this on her Myspace page by saying "I'm Marina. You are the diamonds."
Pat Shortt (born 12 December 1966) is an actor, comedian and entertainer. His role in the 2007 film Garage led to him receiving the IFTA for Best Actor.
Shortt starred alongside Jon Kenny in three series of D'Unbelievables: the first, entitled "D'Video", was a live random sketch show; the second, entitled "D'Telly", featured Shortt and Kenny playing various characters (albeit primarily two brothers who run a shop together); the final series, entitled "D'Mother", in which Kenny's character oversaw the running of a public house alongside his "mother" (who was later revealed to be his father, in a role played by Shortt). One character played by Shortt was Dan Clancy, known for telling "his stories". He later appeared as one of the main characters in the spin-off Killinascully.
Shortt played the role of Tom, a crazy man, in Father Ted. His character maintained a unibrow and was attired in a shirt bearing the slogan "I shot JR".
He starred in the 2007 film Garage, directed by Lenny Abrahamson. Shortt won the Best Actor award at the 2008 IFTAs for his performance in this fillum. In 2008, An Post issued a postage stamp featuring Pat Shortt, as Josie, in the film Garage.
I tied on my boots and strapped on my bracelet
to go out and meet some new faces.
Went to the store to buy some dark gin,
and now I know my night's ready to begin.
A dozen friends in my big 'ol car,
my '62 Buick can't take us too far.
Out for the night, it'll be so rude,
gotta hold us down before the night is through.
In Grand Rapids, there's nothing to do.
When you're down it's the same way too.
Gotta get up, do the best that you can.
To be a fool, is to be a man.
Well I went to the party with the big 'ol keg.
They said the way I drank, they thought I had a hollow leg.
Standing around, starting to groove,
with my beer in hand I think I'll plot my next move.
I spot a pretty girl giving me a wink
trying to catch my eye, or so I think.
Such a fool I am, should not have overlooked
that her eyes were only clouded by the smoke.
Well I went to Denny's to buy me some food,
said it's the only place that can put me in the mood.
I order my fries and always complain,
but the way they taste I think I'd rather eat them plain.
But I'm still with my friends, still having fun
talking shit while the night is still young.
But I bet they watch me drink as much as I'm able,
I know they'll laugh when they find me passed out on the table.
Time again
There's time my friend ...
And time will never end
You'll be free my love
You'll be free my love
Do you see our love?
Do you see our love?
Oh, honey ... honey
Honey ... honey
Can you see our love?
Do you feel our love?
To be free my love
To be free my love ...
Can you feel our love?
Can you feel our love?
I can feel your love
I can feel your love ...
Time again
There's time my friend ...
And time will never end
You'll be free my love
You'll be free my love
Do you see our love?
Do you see our love?
Oh, honey ... honey
Honey ... honey
Can you see our love?
Do you feel our love?
To be free my love
To be free my love ...
Can you feel our love?
Can you feel our love?
I can feel your love
How can I explain
The actions of a man
Who's so confused
He don't know if he's coming or going
If I knew I would
Do everything that I could
To change my ways
But life aint that easy
To be everything that you want me to be
It's a fantasy created only in your own mind
Only in your mind
Maybe now and then
I acted way out of line
But there was so much pain
And the truth is so hard to hide
How could you expect
For me to change my life
And walk away to leave all those tears behind
To be everything that you want me to be
It's a fantasy created only in your own mind
Only in your mind
To be everything that you want me to be
It's a fantasy created only in your own mind
To be everyrhing that you want me to be
It's a fantasy you've created only in your own mind
I never thought i'd rest my life
Like dreams don't dare to pretend
But a single day can change
All the future that you've planned
To go and see what's there for me
To be... or not to be?
You're laying here lonely
And I wish you speak
But the wires tell your stories
Cause your body is too weak
I take your hand and there's nothing
Is there someone inside?
And if there is,
is it still you in this body that's dying
There is a soul that keeps hearing
What's you're going to say
There is a soul that keeps feeling
It's someone who is longing to stay
I'm not sure but I hope that
I can help you if I could
Is it right that I'm thinking?
And is it wrong if I do?
How will I know the answer?
How can I stand the pain?
Hoe will I know the reason?
Why you're going away?
There is a way and I'm walking
There's a light in the dark
There's my hope that is leading
Me back to my life if I fight if I fight
Time goes by but standing still
All my life is passing by tears run dry
Words are gone
How can I keep going on - all alone?
There is a soul that keeps hearing
What you're going to say
There is a soul that keeps feeling
It's someone who is longing to stay
"tears run from my feline eyes"
did you ever know
you, so far away
waiting for an answer
waiting for another time
some kind of heaven
let your depths shine
the heartland may be flooded
the spire never drowns
just like the place
I always long for
to know I'll never reach
never reach you
thoughts and memories
are remedies to get a glimpse
of this light
I raise my arms toward
once more lights
everywhere anytime with you or you
oh do I dare in the narrow next time
oh do I get a next time at all
just take me out
I know this girl, i like her real bad, i know it sounds
sad, but thats the way i feel.I wanna grow up and build
her a house, build her kids, for real.
She stands around town telling her friends stories i
try to decipher.
And in the end, it all falls down because i am an
outsider.
And you can never be what you want
To be
Summer Morning, Winter's Evening, it rains again, I
lie.
Arms around her, my protector, admiring the blue blue
sky.
Reflected in her eyes, there are happy smiles, never
can I annoy her.
I see her there in the satisfied arms of the outsider.
But will she ever pay the fee
To see?
Some lads tell I am ugly, and damn lucky, and that i
will be destroyed.
Others say that things are well, things are swell, and
that i'm just paranoid.
I feel her cold shoulder, she's a few months older, a
few years wiser.
Hidden Histories, unsolved mysteries, unknown to the
outsider.
But you can never be what you want
To be
My past has turned out bad for me
Now I pick up the pieces to start over
And walking with you is the best thing I'll ever do
I'm taking your hand tonight
I want it to be forever you and me
You took me under your wings
Things will never be the same again
Your words sink like a needle that is breaking my skin
My mind is in harmony now I think of
All I think of is you
This warm affection means more than any other, and I'm with you now
My world belongs to you now and I embrace your open hand
I want it to be forever you and me
You took me under your wings
Things will never be the same again
Your words sink like a needle that is breaking my skin
My mind is in harmony now I think of you
You know what I see
this is for you
I love being me
you knew it all along
I look into your eyes as I open up my heart for you
I won't run in circles anymore
I want it to be forever you and me
You took me under your wings
Things will never be the same again
Your words sink like a needle that is breaking my skin
My mind, my mind will be with you
My mind will always be with you
My mind stays sane if you just love me now
Your words sink like a needle that is breaking my skin
Today I saw it was more I could take
Made my mind out of line
How can I breath if this world´s full of pain
leaving me no other choice
Like a wind, like a rain, like a storm
I will gain
Answers that held my mind
Gimme day, Gimme week
And I tell what I need
More days to live
Too many times we think we sense the danger
though we can´t even see ourselves
We´re talking ´bout the future
We´re worrying ´bout the future in our lives
We´re waiting for tomorrow to come
We´re talking ´bout the future
And the sound in my head keeps telling me
what is the truth and what is not
How can I know for sure
If we think we are clever enough
To find our mindless reign
I can´t stand no more
Time after you feel that you don´t believe why it is here
To be just for you
