Soho is an area of the City of Westminster and part of the West End of London. Long established as an entertainment district, for much of the 20th century Soho had a reputation for sex shops as well as night life and film industry. Since the early 1980s, the area has undergone considerable transformation. It now is predominantly a fashionable district of upmarket restaurants and media offices, with only a small remnant of sex industry venues.
The area of Soho was grazing farmland until 1536, when it was taken by Henry VIII as a royal park for the Palace of Whitehall. The name "Soho" first appears in the 17th century. Most authorities believe that the name derives from a former hunting cry. The Duke of Monmouth used "soho" as a rallying call for his men at the Battle of Sedgemoor, half a century after the name was first used for this area of London.
In the 1660s the Crown granted Soho Fields to Henry Jermyn, 1st Earl of St Albans. He leased 19 of its 22 acres (89,000 m2) to Joseph Girle, who gained permission to build and promptly passed his lease and licence to bricklayer Richard Frith in 1677. Frith began the development. In 1698 William III granted the Crown freehold of most of this area to William, Earl of Portland. Meanwhile the southern part of what became the parish of St. Anne, Soho, was sold by the Crown in parcels in the 16th and 17th centuries, with part going to Robert Sidney, Earl of Leicester.

Richard Horatio Edgar Wallace (1 April 1875 – 10 February 1932) was an English crime writer, journalist, novelist, screenwriter, and playwright, who wrote 175 novels, 24 plays, and numerous articles in newspapers and journals.
Over 160 films have been made of his novels. In the 1920s, one of Wallace's publishers claimed that a quarter of all books read in England were written by him. He is most famous today as the co-creator of King Kong, writing the early screenplay and story for the movie, as well as a short story "King Kong" (1933) credited to him and Draycott Dell. He was known for the J. G. Reeder detective stories, The Four Just Men, The Ringer, and for creating the Green Archer character during his lifetime.
Edgar Wallace was born at 7 Ashburnham Grove, Greenwich (London), on 1 April 1875. His biological parents were actors Richard Horatio Edgar (who never knew of his existence)[citation needed] and Mary Jane "Polly" Richards, née Blair. Born Mary Jane Blair in 1843, Liverpool, to an Irish Catholic family, Mary's family had been in show business for some years, and she grew up to be a theatrical "Jane of All Trades" - stagehand, usherette, bit-part actress. Though pretty and talented, Mary was not a great success. During 1867 she ended her theatrical career and married. Also born in Liverpool during 1838, Captain Joseph Richards of the Merchant Navy was likewise from an Irish Catholic family - his father John Richards was also a Merchant Navy Captain, and his mother Catherine Richards came from a mariner family.
It's a wonderful afternoon here in Soho
It's a wonderful afternoon for a daydream
You can dream that's ok
For soho it's another day
In Soho
Over they're playing our song in the park
Isn't it a great day to go on a walk
We can listen that's ok
For soho it's another day
In Soho
Soho, you're my happy thought
When ever you pass my past is gone
Soho I think of you
When every piece of my mind is blue
Hoping over the fence you see
Everything I blew my bit of me
Birds are flying all around
Wish you could hear this beautiful Soho sound
You can listen that's ok
For Soho it's another day
In Soho
Soho all my fights are fought
As I sit upon my thinking rock
I wonder and I contemplate
I think my thoughts and concentrate
Hopping over the fence you see
Ay ay let it shine & let it blaze
Worldwide in now
Girl, I can make you work work
So, let me see you work work
Gotta make you work with me
Girl, I can make you work work
So, let me see you work work
Gotta make you work with me

The way I hold you tight,
Just say it feels alright
You don't wanna leave tonight
Now go bezerk for me
And I'm feeling every vibe you set in me,
You're letting the sunshine through, ye yee
Feel so alive that you can't see
You're letting the sunshine through, ye yee
Let's get freaky, hey ooooh!! Oh oh oh

Freaky bomb let go through
Show me all your crazy moves 'cause

If you ready, come let's go
If you need me, take me slow
If you want me, let me know 'cause
I'm not done with you!!
And I'm feeling every vibe you set in me,
You're letting the sunshine through, ye yee
Feel so alive that you can't see
You're letting the sunshine through, ye yee

It's hard to tell you how I feel without hurting you
So try to think about yourself the way that I see you
Your life revolves around a force of oppression
And I won't deal with true blue devils of correction
Got no flowers for your gun, no hippychick
Won't make love to change your mind, no hippychick
No hippychick, no hip hip hip hip hip
Today we'll sit here drinking coffee in your incident
room
Tonight you'll close the door
And lock me in that bare bulb gloom
Love it ain't something riding on a motorbike
And love, I stopped loving you since the miners' strike
Got no flowers for your gun, no hippychick
Won't make love to change your mind, no hippychick
No hippychick, no hip hip hip hip hip
It's hard, it's hard
It's hard, it's hard
No hippychick, no hip hip hip hip hip
No hippychick, no hip hip hip hip hip
No hippychick, no hip hip hip hip hip
No hippychick
Take a walk through the city
Turn right at Potzdamer Platz
To see a girl on a motorbike
Expression carved on her face
Saw a man in a cafe downtown
Who says it fucks with your head
When you're tryin' to sleep at night
With a gun across your bed
Don't wanna be down at heel
Don't wanna be down at heel
You've shown disgrace on my place
You've gotta know how it feels
Sometimes at night when it's cold outside
It would be easier and sweet
To hack a road through the jungle
Than clear a path down the street
Too many folk in the middle lane
Who don't wanna swerve 'gainst the rails
Apathy balanced with disdain
Dogs chasin' their own tails
Don't wanna be down at heel
Don't wanna be down at heel
You come breakin' down my front door
You've gotta know how it feels
Followed the girl on a motorbike
Saw her enter a bar
It's dark inside with candles burn and
To liberate her scars
She Spanish-dance on the table
With butterflies that burn
It's like an incessant fox-hunt
Too many lessons learned
Love comes down upon us and it floats like water
Burning with the hope of inside
Feathered books the colors of a bright elation
Stolen in the sight of love.
We are, we are, we are we're just children
Finding our way around in decision.
We are, we are, we are all but helpless
Take this forever,
Whisper to a scream.
Birds fly in the eye of a painter's daughter
Spoken at the bitter end
Wasted sacrifice for the new nirvana
Night time, sends us on our way
We are, we are, we are we're just children
Finding our way around in decision
We are, we are, we are all but helpless
Take this forever,
Whisper to a scream
Whisper to a scream
Whisper to a scream
Whisper to a scream
Whisper to a scream
We are, we are, we are we're just children
Finding our way around in decision
We are, we are, we are all but helpless
Take this forever,
Whisper to a scream.
New York City, Subway Station
A million people and you were stickin' out
Smashed thumb, and so pretty
I wonder what you're all about
Crowded train, separation
But still I see you in the corner of my eye
Busy station, anticipation
For you to turn around and see me smile
And you look so trendy
Spaghetti straps and six inch soles
I just looked down and didn't see me
Are you an uptight, turn around, no esteem wreck like me?
So long SOHO
I just sat and watched you go
Take good care and always know
I'll always know that you are there somewhere
Dark hair, a fair complexion
I memorize your face and eyes
The door is open, and I don't see you
And through the window you turn and smile
And you look so trendy
Spaghetti straps and six inch soles
I just looked down and didn't see me
Are you an uptight, turnaround, no esteem wreck like me?
So long SOHO
I just sat and watched you go
Take good care and always know
I'll always know that you are there somewhere
So long SOHO
(So long SOHO)
Three vodka sevens and a J
I won't remember anything
(I just sat and watched you go)
This all just make no sense to me
For seven weeks you're in my dreams
(Take good care and always know)
Nothing's quite the same
I know your face but not your name
(So long SOHO)
I hope someday you'll hear this song
And one day I'll see you sing along
So long SOHO
I just sat and watched you go
Take good care and always know
I'll always know that you are there
So long SOHO
I just sat and watched you go
Take good care and always know
I'll always know that you are there
So long SOHO
I just sat and watched you go
Take good care and always know
The streets are narrow and broken down
But there’s a heart in there beating
And every freak on every street
Plays out tonight - Go see them
Soho, don’t you wanna go?
Steaming in Soho
[x2]
There goes the king
In a stretched limousine
Passing by the beggar
Every door and ally churning out a beat
Rock ‘n’ Roll this is your future
Soho, don’t you wanna go
Steaming in Soho
[x2]
There is only one place in this world where the world is in one place
So if you think that life’s a drag
And it’s getting you down
Get out, get that train
Just take a ride to Soho town
Soho, don’t you wanna go
Steaming in Soho
The streets of Soho
Ah, that's where your kids go
The streets of Soho
Chinatown or (flaminco)?
Out in the streets
Profane stokers sweat in the heat
(Delilah was born)
A greyhound body punctured and torn
The take-away eats
A grubby chef cooks up yesterday's meats
And a baby is born
But mama gets drunk, dad never comes home
The streets of Soho
There's tourists everywhere
The streets of Soho
You got French models up there
Oh, the streets of Soho
You can spend all your money
The streets of Soho
Land of poison and honey
The rush hour is here
Pinstriped bowlers made in India
They emerge from the tube
Their faces fixed in permanent sneers
Whatever your taste
You're guaranteed to find it all here
A fix in the gents:
A topless massage (.............)
In the streets of Soho
Oh, that's where your kids go
The streets of Soho
They got rock, jazz or disco.
Come walk the streets of crime
And colour bright the corners
Of love with the earth
See the dazzling nightlife grow
Beyond the dawn and burning
In the heart of Soho
Hear the market cries
And see their wares displayed
Through the window of your soul
Come watch the naked dance
That spins before your very eyes
Naked like the sun
Step inside where men before
Have drunk to fill to senseless
Till the dreams fade and die
And free and easy
Does the blood red wine come flowing
From the glass to your veins
And the midday dream is silent
Thou gardens where you're resting
From the troubles of your mind
And though the sun is burning brightly
All within the gardens
Are the sleeping oris dead
And through the afternoon
The buzzing bees do harmonise
