Herzliya (Hebrew: הֶרְצְלִיָּה‎‎) is a city in the central coast of Israel, at the western part of the Tel Aviv District. It has a population of 87,000 residents. Named after Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism, Herzliya covers an area of 26 km². At its western municipal boundaries is Herzliya Pituah, one of Israel's most affluent districts, home to ambassadors, foreign diplomats and businessmen.

Herzliya, named after Theodor (Benyamin Zeev) Herzl, was founded in 1924 as a semi-cooperative farming community (moshava) with a mixed population of new immigrants and veteran residents. In the 1920s, the father and grandfather of Tal Brody helped build the country's first airfield in Herzliya. After the establishment of the state in 1948, large numbers of immigrants settled there. In 1960, when the population reached 25,000, Herzliya was declared a city.

According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics, residents of Herzliya are among the wealthiest in Israel. In 2003–2005, average monthly salaries were NIS 8,211, or about NIS 1,500 above average in a survey of Israel's 15 largest cities. However, there is a large gap between the city's seven working class neighborhoods, among them Yad Tisha, Neve Yisrael and Neve Amal, and upscale Herzliya Pituah. The population is older than that of other cities in the Sharon region: 18% are under 14 years old, compared to a national average of 27.5%.

Yair Lapid (Hebrew: יאיר לפיד‎) (born November 5, 1963) is an Israeli politician, actor, journalist, author, and former TV presenter and news anchor.

Lapid is the chairman of the "Yesh Atid" party, which he founded in 2012.

He is the son of journalist and politician Yosef "Tommy" Lapid and author Shulamit Lapid. He is married to journalist Lihi Lapid, whom he met while on IDF reserve duty.

Lapid was born in Tel Aviv, and started his journalism career as a military correspondent for the IDF's weekly magazine, Ba-Mahane ("In the Camp"), and writing for the mainstream daily newspaper, Maariv. In 1988, he was appointed editor of the Tel Aviv local newspaper published by the Yedioth Ahronoth group. In 1991, he began writing a weekly column in a nationwide newspaper's weekend supplement, at first for Maariv and later on for its competitor, Yedioth Ahronoth.

Lapid's career then expanded to include broadcast journalism. In 1994, he began hosting the Friday evening main interview program on Israel TV's Channel 1, and in that same year had an acting role in an Israeli film, “The Singing of The Siren.” He hosted a talk show on TV's Channel 3, and since 1999 has hosted a talk show on Arutz 2 (TV Channel Two). He has published 7 books and wrote a drama series called “War Room” that was aired on Arutz 2 in 2004.
